The majority of fitness experts will advise you to do the cardio after the weight training, because if you do cardio first, it uses up much of the energy source for your anaerobic work (strength training) and fatigues the muscles before their most strenuous activity. Also Doing cardio after weight training burned more fat during the first 15 minutes of that cardio workout versus starting with cardio and then lifting, according to a study published in Medicine & Science in Sports & Exercise.
That sounds like it's game of telephone nonsense. Cardio is aerobic not anaerobic. Unless I'm trying to squeeze out a sprint. Some cardio doesn't really fatigue me. And what's cardio to me is warmup for plenty of hobbyist cyclists that train 20+miles 3+ times a week.
The question is what you want to achieve. If you want to lose weight, cardio makes more sense before lifting weights, because according to a study you have more oxygen in your blood after cardio, especially HIIT cardio training helps best, because increased oxygen intake after work stimulates the metabolism even 24 hours after training. and this oxygen in the blood also helps you with the weight training.

For some reason I always do one hour of cardio before weights, 30 minutes intense cardio and 30 minutes normal. After the cardio I do one hour of weights, I do not overwork one area though, I do 2 different forms for whatever muscle I'm targeting. If I do weights first I find it very uncomfortable and I feel like I run out of energy too quickly as opposed to doing cardio first. It might take a little longer for me to see results but I like doing it that way, and I'm in no rush to look muscular as I don't workout to impress anybody but to be healthy.
I always do cardio first to warm up the muscles properly before strength training. Then a 30min stretch after strength training. In 20 years of doing this, I've never had an injury.
I used to walk to the gym do cardio, strength train then walk back home and I was in the best shape ever. The adrenaline after cardio was insane. If have a high carbohydrate diet and you enjoy cardio definitely do it before weight lifting.
Do first what you value more, simple as that. If your goal is your running/cardio performance, do that first...if you value your weight training more start w that. Simple answer to an over analyzed question. 😊
After reading a few comments, it's seems like some people don't understand that a Warm up routine before weights is completely different than doing a whole cardio routine before weights. Warming up will help your muscles prepare for the movements you're about to do. Give you full range of motion and reduce the chance of injury. There have been studies that say you don't need to warm up but from personal experience I say it's better to do so. But doing cardio before weights is a horrible idea because you won't have the same energy that is required for weight training. You won't see much progress if you exert yourself before weights. Might as well be half ass-ing your weight training.
I always run afterwards. Works better, tone faster, lose weight faster. Become stronger and more powerful, faster. Run on fat, not carbs 🙌 You’ll have more energy after weights to run believe it or not. If you run before, especially because majority of people run when they don’t actually know how go properly run..get overtired from improper form. After A workout everything is already warmed up so form for the run is easier to hold, andd be aware of.
just a question, no hate, why the excessive need to wear like really really really tight pants in the gym?! i know baggy clothes can be annoying but why this skin tight?! 🤔 just a question
My qstn too. I am more comfortable in loose attires. But my gym instructor onces told me that this is because so that u can see the shapes of ur body and plan for workout and can see the dfrnc more visibly...
I like tight fits in the gym around my hips and stomach. It used to be much more important because my clothes would help to keep excessive tissue in place therefore making the whole work out much more comfortable. Now I don't really need such a support anymore but it's something familiar and nice for me. And because my waist is rather small compared to my legs and gluteus... well, most pants look like it's too tight in those areas unless I buy a bigger pair and tailor them to narrow the waist which is a lot of work and/or money so no, thanks. Also for muscular or fat thighs skin-tight fits prevent from scrubbing against each other. Loose, sweat-soaked pants are a great way to cause yourself burns in between your legs. I've been there, it hurts like hell. The last but not least reason is that loose clothes might be sensory triggering when they are wet and cold. Tight ones doesn't cool down so fast.
Only do warm up 5 min before weights and 10 min cool down after. No running, just incline and brisk walk. That's the plan my trainer worked up. She looks amazing whatever she is doing.
Depends on what I'm doing. For upper body, it doesn't matter to me. If I'm doing lower body, I do weights before do I can have the energy to do cardio after. And if I'm doing intense cardio, I might skip the weights altogether and save then for a second workout later in the day.
Ive been working out for 3 months and so far ive always done cardio before. I do 10-15 mins of carido then i work on my sets. For me it makes my body more ready for the training. I also only do 3-4 dofferent weight exercises after but typically 3 swts of 15 for each machine
Ideally what I found works best is fasted cardio in the morning. Then at some point throughout the day or evening do your weights. If this is not possible and you need to do it all at the same time, then I would recommend a light warm-up. 5 to 10 minutes to get the blood flowing and then weights followed by cardio. The reason for this is that you want to use your stored glycogen to fuel your workout and lift the weights. After a certain period, your glycogen gets depleted, and your body needs to use a different fuel source. That fuel sore is your stored body fat. Therefore, doing cardio after is better in my opinion because you are now tapping into your fat storage level for fuel hence a better chance of burning more fat.
Doing cardio gives full body workout, heats and stretches the muscles for you also, so less injury when doing weights, pros and cons boths ways, do what's your for your body
For effectiveness... cardio after weights. If you start with cardio it can take upto 10-15 just to begin metabolising, plus you run the risk of affecting your weight training with depleted energy levels.. After weights your body is already warmed up and metabolising therefore the cardio is more effective at calorie burning and weight loss. Overall its good for hormone regulation and cognitive function to do both either way.. i say its pesrson/goal specific orientation. "Stay hard" goggins
I only run a mile before weights, it warms up my body and I have a good stretch after and if I want to do more cardio after my lift I will don’t stress it, go w how you feel babes!!
Yeah this is the best way based on what we we’re taught in my college weightlifting class. Brief cardio is better than “stretching” to warm up. Warming up requires literally increasing your heart rate
This is good to know. I typically do strength training before cardio (if I do cardio that day too) because I have more energy for my strength training then. But I’ve always kinda wondered which order is more effective. Thank you!! God bless😊
Socks on a treadmill. Saw this for the first time. Is there an added benefit of not wearing shoes? Does stimulate better arch support in the foot muscles? Curious to know. Always been a fan of your workouts!
No there is not running barefoot is just more uncomfortable. But you have more support doing dead lifts and lunges barefoot that is the only reason I go barefoot in my gym. But what she doing here is really unnecessary.
it can help w ur form if ur having issues feeling where your landing on your feet + if you’re lifting and not wearing running shoes it’s better to be barefoot than in a shoe that will mess w ur form
REMINDER TO ANYONE WHO NEEDS IT: Exercise is good no matter what !! If you prefer to run before weights for your mental well-being / motivation levels that is okay too !! Different styles of training will bring different results but that doesn’t make the others “bad.” The key is finding what you enjoy for consistency 🫶
I weight train before cardio, because, I simply donot have the stamina any more to do more reps, and also, I cannot do heavy weights. But after weight training cardio helps me do more reps in cardio, because all of my muscles are warm and active, and honestly lights up my mood. I feel happier and there is a sense of achievement later.
I'll either do a HIIT strength cardio day only EMOM.. 1 min treadmill run then 1 min BB/DB move. OR on Upper body days do cardio after... If you're going to do cardio, it should be on its own separate day as to not waste the time you spent lifting weights. Lift weights, then eat. In that order.
My answer is: both. A quick 20 minutes pseudo cardio helps me grab my training vibe. A few minutes of stair master plus a little bit of running. Then my muscles are ready to do the hard stuff. And after that I enjoy 40 minutes of high intensity cardio followed up by 10-20 minutes of cool-down. It might be swapped with some other fun activity like zumba or other organized group fitness session. For me cardio is meant to be fun.
I run long distances and from experience cardio after is key. I walk 5-6 min on treadmill then warm up stretches for another 5-6 min. After weights I typically run for 15-30 min. It’s very hard after a leg day but it translates to easier long distance runs on other days and more explosive power for hills and so on. I would have terrible weight sessions if I did it in reverse. I reckon if you do smaller cardio and then weights (I think that’s what she means) then it would work.
You should not do cardio right after weight training. For best rest have wait at least six hours after or on different day. If you goal is to grow muscle
How about someone wanting to losing fat? I’ve done cardio before weights when I first started working out in 2009 and than did cardio after weights/low reps heavy weights in 2014 and ended at the same weight w my body looking way more toned smaller and amazing compared to when I did 30-40mins cardio before weights/high reps lower weights.
@@kathyvictoria6059 You may burn fat But doing cardio right before or right after your work out will hinder muscle growth. If you separate the two sessions you will be able to put more effort into your workout and cardio. The majority of your weight loss though will come from your diet.
Some light cardio before lifting weights is a good way to warm up and get some blood flowing. But, if you want to do some more intense and/or longer cardio, then it's better to do that after lifting. If you're exhausted after the weights just rest for a few minutes and then cardio time. Btw you don't need to go for hours on end, about 150 minutes of moderately intense cardio a week is perfect for becoming a better butter burner, as coach Greg preaches all the time.

I'm not an expert but I don't think it's good on your feet to run in socks as well as dangerous. I haven't seen any pro's running in socks at all 🤷🏽♀️
Cardio first (Running) then stretching
It prepares your body for strength training and prevents injury
For a full year when I got first introduced to this gyn workout concept, I did cardio for full 30 min and then weights.
It worked wonders on me as I shedded my almost weight during that period, but when I was about to touch my weight goal, it was hard to maintain that.
I came from 86 kgs to 57 kgs in a year!
Hen I decided to do weights first and then cardio.. it worked here too. Now I don’t mind doing vice versa.
Wow that’s actually impressive. I‘m starting the Gym in one day.
FatLoss: Cardio Post weight training
Endurance: Cardio Pre-weight training
Conclusion: Depends on your goal :)
Tip:
Most sustainable form of Cardio
- Walking (10000 avg. steps daily)
in my case i want to loss weight because i am fat, so should i do first weight training and then cardio, right?
Lol I do cardio before weights and lost a lot of weight.
@@suzyque2936 depends on the goal. If you want to build muscle and be lean do the first one. If you want to be strong and dont want to build mass do the 2nd one. Both have established studies and research. You just have to decide which one is your goal
@@Daniel-gy6ze I understand what you’re saying about the science however, I’m speaking about my personal experience that has worked well for me. That’s all I was trying to convey.
👏 😊 same here!
Me too! I think it depends on the person’s specific body as well
@@Sarai-9000 🙌
@@midastouch9977 most definitely.

I actually did an Abs workout today and I did my cardio after- it was definitely a lot more productive so that’s what I’d be sticking to!
I always do like 25mins Cardio with speed low-high-low and then do the rest exercise, i always boost my energy and moods to do more workouts
Perfectly explained ❤
I always run afterwards.
Works better, tone faster, lose weight faster. Become stronger and more powerful, faster.
Run on fat, not carbs 🙌
You’ll have more energy after weights to run believe it or not. If you run before, especially because majority of people run when they don’t actually know how go properly run..get overtired from improper form.
After
A workout everything is already warmed up so form for the run is easier to hold, andd be aware of.
just a question, no hate, why the excessive need to wear like really really really tight pants in the gym?! i know baggy clothes can be annoying but why this skin tight?! 🤔 just a question
Yes Im also wondering. Makes you look...a hoe
My qstn too. I am more comfortable in loose attires.
But my gym instructor onces told me that this is because so that u can see the shapes of ur body and plan for workout and can see the dfrnc more visibly...
@sumaiyaakhi5194 okay now that's a good reason, thanks for the respectful reply 😊
@@Lady_Sherin thank you for educating me ☺️
Only do warm up 5 min before weights and 10 min cool down after.
I always do cardio first to pump up my blood and then weights it works for me will try the other way around to see how is it.
I do 10-15 mins cardio first to warm up my body and then weights.
Doing cardio gives full body workout, heats and stretches the muscles for you also, so less injury when doing weights, pros and cons boths ways, do what's your for your body
Cardio I get too sweaty, so weights first.
I get on the treadmill without sticking out my ass then I walk for 10 run 20 min and do weights

Depends what’s more important to you. I prefer strength over cardio so I do cardio after my weight training.
Def Cardio before Weights it pumps your heart and gets your blood flowing.
Everyone is different. Some prefer to do after weight training.
As a woman, I want to know. How do you workout with a permanent wedgy? I wouldn't be able to. 🤦🏻♀️
That’s the first thing I noticed😂 it’s way up there! There’s no way she doesn’t suffer from yeast infections working out with clothes that tight
But you have more support doing dead lifts
and lunges barefoot that is the only reason I go barefoot in my gym. But what she doing here is really unnecessary.
it can help w ur form if ur having issues feeling where your landing on your feet + if you’re lifting and not wearing running shoes it’s better to be barefoot than in a shoe that will mess w ur form
It’s best to do cardio after weights. You have more energy for your weight training and you build more muscle.
“Why is that guy staring at me 😡 “

Quit with your attention seeking too.
Bulking focus on strength and weight lifting. Cutting focus on cardio before weights but not to much as to lose muscle.
I’m like a squirrel at the gym, no day is ever the same. If I had a routine I’d quit or die of boredom in there. Lol

I get energized and more focus after cardio so I do it first, gets me in the zone, i start feeling like a superhuman

Me: don’t do cardio at all

Fellas give your daughter's attention because if not...
Definitely cardio after weights!! Gotta use the big burst of energy for the heavy lifting

Btw you don't need to go for hours on end, about 150 minutes of moderately intense cardio a week is perfect for becoming a better butter burner, as coach Greg preaches all the time.
its funny how girls always use that specific angle to catch a few more views and likes. 😂 it obviously works.
I’ve always done cardio before weights and lifting
This is why you don’t take weightlifting advice from an influencer. Anyone who knows anything about weightlifting should know that your compound lifts (squat, bench, deadlift) is ALWAYS your main priority then cardio.smh.
