Great Design, I modified it a bit by putting a 10 watt, 1ohm resistor in front of the positive lead to the ecig and then hooking up 2 9v batteries in parallel. It does a great job of keeping the ecig from getting too hot and supplying enough power without straining a single battery. I can run it comfortably for 2 minutes without having to turn it off to protect the coil in the ecig.
Reading through the comments about not getting smoke to come out, I want to point out that when you solder the positive wire to the vape chamber, you must take great care to NOT block the hole in the center with solder. Resist putting the wire or solder in the hole, that will totally block the airflow through the unit!
It was relaxing, entertaining, useful and very nice to watch you and explain.... everything seems possible ! :D I used exchangeable cigarettes for my Junkrat's smoking hair, so I can't wait to finally exchange this tiny thing for a longer lasting one :D
glad you liked it, going to do a follow up vid to a modification very soon because sometimes the rod of the coil can come loose so made a (easy) fix for that. good to know this tech will serve one of your fab wigs soon :D

it is pretty easy actually, just the margin for error is low ;) be sure to check out my "smoke machine fix" video to fix leaks in airflow, as just 1 tiny leak can mess up the flow of smoke
Great job!!! I'm going make one a little bit different. Will have dual outlet for dual exhaust on my Jeep Rubicon. Maybe even use twin heaters wired in parallel. And maybe power it with the charging cable on the battery. Maybe use a little tin Altoids box.
When I attach the two red wired together to go on the opposite side of the switch, the power is very low. If I remove the one red wire that is connected to the inside of the vape pen, and only have the fish pump wire hooked upto the switch its full blast. I have the red wire soldered into the center of the pen and the black wire on the inside of the pen.

thanks so much for this. a friend helped me make one connected to a lithium ion 3.7v battery and it also has a light. I can't seem to find this info .. any idea how long the power going to the heating coil is safe to run without causing it to burn out or have other issues? I'm thinking 10 seconds?
to play it safe it would be 30 secs to a minute max, you could always test this, i know some people even pushed out 2 minutes, however it is at the risk of burning your coil... coils are not expensive and easy to replace so you could even test it if you really wanted to know

Spencer Cook sounds like a shit battery, power shouldnt flow as it stops at the switch so nothing should happen at all. Its that or you are short circuiting it somewhere where your + and - might be touching each other...

I have a question: why must we use it in short bursts? If the coil will burn out, then how come Ms.Kamui let it run continuously for about 3 minutes? It because of different design?
its because this video is super old, and this design is old aswell with a very cheap crappy vape pen ;) i helped kamui with hers as she was very far along with it but couldnt get it to work all the way, so i know her version in her video is better then this one, my for sale versions of smoke machines can blast away for 20 minutes straight. so the short answer? crap shitty cheap vape = crap shitty short burst ;)
Hey Wayne, why didn't you use the supplied battery? Recharging could have been done via the USB-Port built in the prop. So it would have been selfcontained without the need of changing batteries ...
Bone Buddrus because the vape battery would have been to weak to power both the coil and airpump at the same time also its more compact/space efficient this way
I think I'm gonna need to ask your guidance...i can get everything connected and when the battery is connected, the motor runs too, but no vape smoke at all...i made sure to solder as you instructed, but no luck :(
you can sometimes hear the vape "crackle" what you can do to see if you have a air tight seal, is to when you run the system, blow air into the vape hose where the airmotor normally is connected. if there is smoke, then the motor is faulty or not airtight connection... if no smoke, the vape doesnt heat up proper. find out problems by process of elimination ;)
Okay so I did everything you did and even used the same air pump and vape pen you recommended. I've got power going to the air pump but no smoke is coming out. I am unsure if the pump isn't blowing enough air (actually it isn't blowing a lot of air anyway. I shortened my tube from about 16 inches to around 2 inches amd I still don't feel air coming through the tube) or if my vape pen isn't working. Do you have any suggestions?
watch my smoke machine fix video, and test it apart from another, disconnect pump from vapepen and see if air is coming out and test if coil is hot by turning that on but blowing air in it with your mouth, so you know which one it is that isnt fuctioning

1. Think I used just that, standard cable which is used for audio in cars n stuff. 2. Working on making it wireless, yes it is possible. 3. Recently purchased a xl vaper, works but not tested with proper fog juice, results soon.
I can't seem to figure out how to make this work. I have it all set up like this, nothing is blocking the hole either. I checked for leaks and I found one but fixed it imidiatly, and I fill the juice up only a little bit to avoid over saturation. The thing seems to work because the 9 V battery heats up a bit, but the coil doesnt crackle and no smoke comes out when I turn on the air pump and atomizer with the button. I'm super confused.
there is a "smoke machine fix" video aswell, you can also check if its the vape or the airpump, take off the airpump from the rest, turn on the device and blow smoke into the vape there where the airpump normally would. no smoke means the wiring is bad and the coil doesnt heat up. if there is smoke, the air from your pump doesnt reach the vape (airflow blocked or escaping) other then that i dont know where it might go wrong for you.
Thanx buddy but i can get my pen to smoke with a 9 v battery it needs an amp to smoke and a 9 v is only a half amp, its the same pen but i think i may need to add 9s in series but it may be to much volts, you could make money on this idea

yup, for example your phone charger also works on 220v but converts it and outputs it to 5v, so just find one for 9v and you should be good, be safe though!

AndreasGienger coils can actually hold up to a 12volt pack. Also the airpump takes it's fair share so its all good. Tested this numerous times and measured with a multimeter
I tried it but it didn't work. I just connected a 9v battery directly to the e-cigarette and blew air into the atomizer as I didn't have a air pump. Why it didn't work. The e-juce used was glycerine and water.
because you are not following the tutorial? ;) a atomizers battery is rated at 4.5 volts, connecting the double amount of that with your 9volt might have blown it up already... try using a 2x AA battery pack, its 3volts but still better then a 9v blowout, also use distilled water, normal tap water will leave crap on your atomizer.
Wayne's Workshop I used mineral water. I also tried with 2xAA batteries. I seen your second tutorial of putting superglue in between +ve and - ve terminals and tried again.
yeah but you did it first with 9v, so you could have burned out the coil already, if that did happen, the AA seetup wouldnt matter as you already broke it (possibly)
Wayne's Workshop got it right. With 3v. I get smoked by blowing from back or pull out from the front. Thanks. It works. Now I have to improvise it with necessary tools. It seems the ratio of water and glycerine was not right for density of smoke.
Wayne, I used Glycerol BP and mineral water. What is the ratio to use for getting denser smoke. I get very light smoke. Can I use it directly without diluting ?
Wayne, this is an awesome tutorial! I'm working on something similar, basically faking a christmas fireplace. I'm currently using ultrasonic water mister and a fan, but this looks good too. Do you know how long that fog juice lasts for?
you can hook it up to a lithium-ion battery (like the ones in your phone) just be carefull that you buy one with overcharge protector as they can blow up if you overcharge them. if you are looking for a simpler safer route just hook up 2 9v batteries in parallel. more info about difference in series and parallel here: www.zbattery.com/Connecting-Batteries-in-Series-or-Parallel
maybe look into the big vape coils, i know there are vapers out there that want more smoke generated because generally they are more addicted to the inhaling part of smoking instead of the nicotine... do not know for sure but i know they can hold on for much longer...
Hey Wayne. Great video. So i tried to do this method. I followed everything to the tee but I could get the smoke to come out. I soldered both positive and negative. I had to sand a bit on both metal pieces for the solder to stay on. Once i got it i hooked up everything put nothing happened. The air pump was the only thing that worked. But after a while i noticed that the 9 volt battery got extremely warm so i stopped ASAP. Did not want to cause an explosion of the battery. Do you have anything that cold help. I was hoping to put this into my Predator suit this weekend for a contest. Please let me know bud. Appreciate it.
ok lets make it happen then for this weekend ;) 1. check out my "smoke machine fix" video if ya hadnt already. 2. run the setup like you normally would but disconnect the tube that leads from the airpump to the vape pen. (disconnect from the airpump side) run the setup but blow air through the tube into the vape pen with your mouth. if you do get smoke, that means you have an airflow leak somewhere. if still nothing happens, it means your coil doesnt heat up and you might have a bad connection. 3. get back at me if it still fails and we see whats what (the 9v can get warm becuase it depletes rapidly, or theres a short circuit somewhere, if ya get smoke eventually we can talk about a different battery type but 9v is the easiest accesable, hence its in this video. bonus tip: use glycerine as your fluid (also known as VG) it provides the thickest clouds
Ok cool going to try that out today when i get home. So if the 9v gets that warm that means the connection is bad.Yeah i heard those E-cigarette explode. I got scared. I'm going to try it with the battery it comes with first to see if it work period . If it does then at least i know it works. then we can go to phase 2 and connect the positive and negative wires to the unit. So i bought fog fluid already from Party City. That should do the trick also the smoke shop sold me scent fluid too., I will try this today and get back to you. I need that smoke to come out of my gun =)
a powerbank can work also and if you wanna push it up, a 12volt pack composed of 8x aa will work real good and wont run out that quick. atleast your plasma cannon will smell nice :P

Wayne's Workshop I just watched your fix video but my problems seems to be that the solder won’t stick. Whenever I add solder it slips off. At first it stuck on but now it just slips off i don’t know why. Also I’m not sure if what your telling me to do is super glue it first to hold the position then add the solder. If that is what I’m supposed to do to fix this then reassurance from you would be much appreciated
OHmyJESUSROFL non sticking solder is either the surface is not hot enough or scuff up the surface a bit with sandpaper or needlefile so it has something to grab onto

Gallifreya Cosplay nope. 4 circuits on 1 battery won't work like this, you can however make 4 of these smokers with each their own battery, but instead of the switch in the video you buy a four pole double throw switch. This is a special switch to hook up several circuits to 1 switch lever.

Hello Friend. I did everything you said, soldered everything right, but the vape pen is not powered. I tested it without the air pump, and yet it does not turn on. What can I be doing wrong? :( It connects normally if I use the battery of the vape pen.
Rafael Pereira battery of vapepen forces the pin of the vapecoil to go down, ive found out that this can come out when you push the hose onto the vaper, you can fix it with a drop of superglue on the side of the pin (not centre because airflow)

have you looked at my smoke machine fix video? it usually is a case of a leak in the airflow... detach the airpump, trigger the system but blow air yourself in the tube with your mouth, if you get smoke there is a leak somewhere in the airpump-to-vape part if no smoke, you might have soldered it wrong and the vape doesnt heat up, hope it helps

yup, for example your phone charger also works on 220v but converts it and outputs it to 5v, so just find one for 9v and you should be good, be safe though!

Great Video!! Thank you for posting it. Am I mistaken, that the pens you posted are rated between 3V and 4V? Don`t you burn the coil when you apply 9V to it?
AndreasGienger coils can actually hold up to a 12volt pack. Also the airpump takes it's fair share so its all good. Tested this numerous times and measured with a multimeter
I tried it but it didn't work. I just connected a 9v battery directly to the e-cigarette and blew air into the atomizer as I didn't have a air pump.
Why it didn't work.
The e-juce used was glycerine and water.

a atomizers battery is rated at 4.5 volts, connecting the double amount of that with your 9volt might have blown it up already...
try using a 2x AA battery pack, its 3volts but still better then a 9v blowout, also use distilled water, normal tap water will leave crap on your atomizer.
Wayne's Workshop I used mineral water. I also tried with 2xAA batteries. I seen your second tutorial of putting superglue in between +ve and - ve terminals and tried again.
yeah but you did it first with 9v, so you could have burned out the coil already, if that did happen, the AA seetup wouldnt matter as you already broke it (possibly)

Wayne, I used Glycerol BP and mineral water. What is the ratio to use for getting denser smoke. I get very light smoke. Can I use it directly without diluting ?

Wayne, this is an awesome tutorial! I'm working on something similar, basically faking a christmas fireplace. I'm currently using ultrasonic water mister and a fan, but this looks good too. Do you know how long that fog juice lasts for?

you can hook it up to a lithium-ion battery (like the ones in your phone) just be carefull that you buy one with overcharge protector as they can blow up if you overcharge them.
if you are looking for a simpler safer route just hook up 2 9v batteries in parallel.

How long can you run it on 7 volts? I need something that can stay on for up to an hour
maybe look into the big vape coils, i know there are vapers out there that want more smoke generated because generally they are more addicted to the inhaling part of smoking instead of the nicotine... do not know for sure but i know they can hold on for much longer...
Running them for that long is soooooo not good. Things could go very wrong. You dont want it to be running for an hour
Hey Wayne. Great video. So i tried to do this method. I followed everything to the tee but I could get the smoke to come out. I soldered both positive and negative. I had to sand a bit on both metal pieces for the solder to stay on. Once i got it i hooked up everything put nothing happened. The air pump was the only thing that worked. But after a while i noticed that the 9 volt battery got extremely warm so i stopped ASAP. Did not want to cause an explosion of the battery. Do you have anything that cold help. I was hoping to put this into my Predator suit this weekend for a contest. Please let me know bud. Appreciate it.
ok lets make it happen then for this weekend ;)
1. check out my "smoke machine fix" video if ya hadnt already.
2. run the setup like you normally would but disconnect the tube that leads from the airpump to the vape pen. (disconnect from the airpump side) run the setup but blow air through the tube into the vape pen with your mouth.
if you do get smoke, that means you have an airflow leak somewhere. if still nothing happens, it means your coil doesnt heat up and you might have a bad connection.
3. get back at me if it still fails and we see whats what (the 9v can get warm becuase it depletes rapidly, or theres a short circuit somewhere, if ya get smoke eventually we can talk about a different battery type but 9v is the easiest accesable, hence its in this video.
bonus tip: use glycerine as your fluid (also known as VG) it provides the thickest clouds
Ok cool going to try that out today when i get home. So if the 9v gets that warm that means the connection is bad.Yeah i heard those E-cigarette explode. I got scared. I'm going to try it with the battery it comes with first to see if it work period . If it does then at least i know it works. then we can go to phase 2 and connect the positive and negative wires to the unit. So i bought fog fluid already from Party City. That should do the trick also the smoke shop sold me scent fluid too., I will try this today and get back to you. I need that smoke to come out of my gun =)
a powerbank can work also and if you wanna push it up, a 12volt pack composed of 8x aa will work real good and wont run out that quick.

make sure its a 6v airpump and a vape pen with a hole in the bottom like in the video, otherwise you have to drill a hole and its not adviseable

Wayne's Workshop I just watched your fix video but my problems seems to be that the solder won’t stick. Whenever I add solder it slips off. At first it stuck on but now it just slips off i don’t know why. Also I’m not sure if what your telling me to do is super glue it first to hold the position then add the solder. If that is what I’m supposed to do to fix this then reassurance from you would be much appreciated
OHmyJESUSROFL non sticking solder is either the surface is not hot enough or scuff up the surface a bit with sandpaper or needlefile so it has something to grab onto
Super glue is only to hold the pin in, not to stick solder or anything

I wanna add two smokers in my shoulder armor and two in my hip armor, but I just want one button to controle them (due to the fact that I can only turn them on for a couple of seconds.) I'm totally new to all of this, so I thought just gonna ask :)
Gallifreya Cosplay nope. 4 circuits on 1 battery won't work like this, you can however make 4 of these smokers with each their own battery, but instead of the switch in the video you buy a four pole double throw switch. This is a special switch to hook up several circuits to 1 switch lever.

Rafael Pereira battery of vapepen forces the pin of the vapecoil to go down, ive found out that this can come out when you push the hose onto the vaper,
you can fix it with a drop of superglue on the side of the pin (not centre because airflow)

Wayne's Workshop. i have the same problem, but the whole unit won't turn on when connected, the air punp works alone, but the vape pen seems to take too much power. what i mean is i Turn on the device and the air pump works, but if i conect the positive wire to the pen coil (like you show) the pump shuts off, please help asap! also I've done your coil trick and got no results.

cheaper to just buy the top, less waste and easy to get in vape stores and can get yourself ones with a bigger resevoir

have you looked at my smoke machine fix video? it usually is a case of a leak in the airflow... detach the airpump, trigger the system but blow air yourself in the tube with your mouth, if you get smoke there is a leak somewhere in the airpump-to-vape part
if no smoke, you might have soldered it wrong and the vape doesnt heat up, hope it helps
