      Thanks so much for the sentiment Jess, but I don't see that in my future anytime soon lol. I do this to help folks like you who just need a simple, understandable 'roadmap' on how to use this camera. Their ambassadors are very knowledgeable and excellent photographers. I'm just trying to show how a 'simple' person can have fun with this camera lol

    Thanks. Finally a clear explanation of how the ISO button on the dial works. Basically it changes the FN button to a toggle, to toggle between auto and manual iso. I 've been confused by this for some reason. I realize there is a prompt on the screen to use the Fn button, but for some reason I've never twigged to it.

    Fantastic guide you filmed, thank you very much! I have just bought this little beast and am figuring out how to better use it. Your movie was very, very helpful. I watched it before looking through the manual because I thought it would be faster this way and I was right. I am not a complete newbie but I have never owned neither Ricoh nor Pentax. Olympus, Nikon, Samsung and now Fuji for quite a long time. I had a Fuji X70 before which is a bit similar, but is not as pocketable as Ricoh. While configuring my new Ricoh with your precious help I realised an interesting fact: when you change your crop settings (to 35 or 50 mm) and you turn off the camera, it stays this way, it doesn't come back to 28 mm. One has to keep it in mind. Would be nice if it was possible to change this type of behaviour in the settings too. Thanks again for your wonderful job!

    38:18 photograghy :) Thanks for the setup tutorial. I've had my GRIII for about 3 weeks. I think you may have missed the crop mapping to your wheel drive button? I'm going to read some comments and see.

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  2 года назад +1

      No, the wheel will fail you soon. Don't even mess with it. The more you use it, the quicker it will stop working. It's a cheap piece of crap plastic that Ricoh KNOWS is crap, but they continue to use it, and charge to fix THEIR bad engineering. The only thing that is required with the wheel is manual focus, everything else can be done with other buttons, which defeats the purpose of having the wheel, but they apparently don't care and want to charge the fee to fix it afterwards. So again, if you rely on that wheel, it will fail you eventually. But I do appreciate the input my friend! Thanks so much for the contribution Roy!

      @@DozierGraphic found the crop mapping...sort of hidden because it's w/in the fn button mapping. See the issue there? I enjoyed watching your battery run down as you did the video, lol. The thing eats batteries. I think you can capture the menu screen of the camera by connecting a usbc cable but I am not sure how its done. Right now as a beginner I am shooting in P mode and tweeking settings as I go because THERE IS SO MUCH STUFF ITS AMAZING!

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  4 года назад

      Thanks Owen! Yes, a Type C cable out of the camera to an HDMI cable will allow you to hook the camera up to a computer, and even broadcast via OBS, etc, but my problem was I needed to be able to show my thumbs/fingers on the back of the camera, so I chose to just use the good old fashioned cell phone for video. I hope the video helps, but there certainly nothing wrong with using the camera in Program mode and adjusting as you go. I did that in the abandoned school video, and maybe the small town video (not sure on that one). But when in doubt, the bottom line is to get the shot, not worry about manual or program! You'll love using this camera! Thanks again!

    • @DozierGraphic

      Not at all gerald. I just don't ever shoot in program mode, or aperture priority, etc - I like to set the shutter speed so I can control possible blur, and I like to control the aperture for depth of field, so I use that, along with Auto ISO, so there is room for adjustment, without changing the shutter or aperture. • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  4 года назад

      Continuous mode - 4.3 fps - I never use it. I like the old fashioned push of the shutter button for each photo. Typically I'll shoot 2-3 photos of each person that passes by (usually just two). Burst/continuous seems like cheating to me for street photography - like using a net for fishing instead of one hook, one fish at a time.

      I never really use the autofocus with the Ricoh - but I can say when I have shots that are almost black due to being in shadows, they pop up very brightly when pulled up in Lightroom. Not a lot of noise. I'll make a very short video on a few of the shots that were like this so you can see what I'm talking about. This camera is top notch regarding low light quality.

      Hey Stewart, thanks for watching the video, and I appreciate the question! I don't like the Full Press option. It doesn't seem to 'full press' for me. Great, informative video. Just a question. With the 3 user presets on the dial, how do you /find/select presets 4,5 & 6 for shooting after you’ve set them up?

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  4 года назад +2

      It's not difficult, but it is difficult to explain lol Just to try to figure it out, what I would do is make 6 generic presets (that you'll change or not even use later) label them edit 1, edit 2, etc until you have six. You'll see after you create your first one, it will automatically be at the top, and want to be in U1 preset. Once you get to the fourth preset, it will just put it in the fourth slot, but won't be on the U1 U2 or U3 preset of course. But once you get the fourth one saved, or created, it allows you to choose if you want to slot it in the U1, U2, or U3 preset. If you put it on U1, it SHOULD (if I remember correctly) move the U1 preset down to number four, and put the fourth preset in the U1 slot. Play around and let me know if you still have issues. I can make a quick video of just a few minutes if you still have trouble Andy. Please let me know. Thanks!

    Is it possible to change the ISO with the scroller without first hitting the shortcuts for ISO ? As u would have at any other cameras. I used that om my Sony A7 III. I just turn the round wheel and I was automatically on ISO. Is it possible ? Or do you have to have a shortcut first for ISO and then rotate the wheel ?

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  4 года назад

      You can certainly use the ISO shortcut as factory preset by pushing the left arrow on the dial on back of the camera. Couldn't be easier! Hope that helps. Where are you viewing from?

      @@DozierGraphic I've changed to EV now by having the ISO on auto. Feels almost as the same thing 😎 I'm from Norway. Just bought me this camera and I'm ready to go out. I'm noticing I miss alot of pictures that are off focus. I came from A73 and the autofocus was awesome. Here if it's just a little bit dark the focus just can't seem to find the target. So I've still trying to learn this snapfocus and distance . Because you don't have alot of room to play with if your F stop isn't high and to predict where the focus will be. But it's fun little camera. Amazing pictures 😍

    How to make a portrait from 1-2m distance without blurring background?

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  4 года назад +1

      Using a high aperture (f/16 - f/22) will give you the best depth of field. If you are sitting at f/2 you'll get a nice blur in background, which is nice in portraiture. Usually you want a softer shot for female, so stay in the 2-4 range. For nature, architecture, waterfalls, etc go up to f/16 to f/22 to get less blur, sharper backgrounds.

    Regarding retrieving information from an image, the truth is the opposite of what you have said. If you shoot in raw, you can regain more detail on an over exposed image than an under exposed one.

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  2 года назад

      But once you blowout a white/light beyond it's limit (and there is a limit) it's not retrievable.

    I don't know why it is but I find the GR3 a real pain to use. The slow focus drives me mad so I'll need to watch your settings. I'm used to a Panasonic Lumix which is instant and am really regretting buying the GR3.

    • @DozierGraphic
      @DozierGraphic  4 года назад +1

      Don't give up! This is too good of a camera to give up on. Keep trying. Watch ALL my videos (LOL) and you should have a better grasp. I don't notice a slow focus, but I never really use the autofocus, so that's probably why. The gem of this camera is the SNAP FOCUS! If you use that, you do not HAVE a focus problem, or a lag in focus - it's instant. I also have a Panasonic Lumix DZ300 which is fine for video, but not so good for photos at all as it's a very small 1 1/3 sensor. Always seems fuzzy to me and not really sharp, but does great for video. Keep it up, and get your money's worth out of that Ricoh - it'll come to you!
