  • In this video, we test out the RocketFish TV Dock Kit for the Nintendo Switch. Is a 3rd party dock a good deal? Is it safe? Does it smell funny?
Update: I ended up returning this particular dock since the buzzing got worse. Might have just been this dock, not sure.
We recently reviewed a different dock which is working out much better, you can find it here:

And here is a cheap Power Supply that works well with it.

I picked up a V1 and it didn’t come with a dock so I purchased this at Best Buy and I love it. Have had it for about 3 months now and have had absolutely no issues with it. The only “downside” would be the 1 usb input but besides that I would highly recommend.

thanks for the helpful review. One thing I would recommend is to try with the OLED one as they advertise it working with the OLED switch.

Yes, I have not tried it personally, but Best Buy’s website does show it is compatible.

I bought one of these today even though I have the original dock my switch came with. I mainly got this dock to be able to play in table top mode as well as with my big hands and how I love to play in handheld mode.
I use it play also while laying down and to watch RUclips and movies and shows on Hulu. As well as it’s nice to while laying down in bed or the couch, I don’t have to hold the switch for hours on end. Also is handy for when there’s no tv available

If I'm reading this correctly, you can use it while not connected to a TV?
I've been looking everywhere for an answer and haven't found squat. I figured it would be a more commonly asked question 😭
Definitely grabbing one now. Mainly want it for when I'm not at home so I can still use my horo controller because the joycons are too small for my hands too

@@Uzu70 that is correct. When I wrote that comment a month ago, I was at a clients home (I am a dog sitter) and was in the kitchen where there was no tv and had my switch in the dock and hooked up at the kitchen counter where I was watching this video review.

Best Buy currently has these for $25, Black Friday sale price. I bought it because the OEM usb ports wont read my ethernet adapter but will charge my 3rd party controllers. But said ethernet adapter will work on my friends OEM dock 🤷‍♂️

I had the first version (when it was insignia and had a USB C AC) who never had problems.
They had to remove the USB AC because the new Nintendo USB C AC don't work on my insignia dock but my Launch day USB C AC does.
    Great dock no matter what!

That's interesting. I would have much rather received a USB-C power supply with this dock, even if it wasn't fully supported by the Switch or vice versa.

What the quality of this dock? You can check in the switch settings if unsure. I heard it was only 480p

I know it’s been 3 weeks but I recently bought one and it works perfectly fine 1080p. Currently on sale for $25 instead of $50 if you still want one

As it turns out, I ended up returning it after all. The buzzing got worse. Might have just been a bad unit? You can also check Nintendo's website, they sell refurbished docks for around the same price.

Yes, through the USB port. But after this review I ended up returning it to Best Buy since the buzzing got worse. I reviewed a different dock on my channel since then, and I recommend it much more. Let me know if you have any other questions.

Hey! this is kind of a dumb question, but I wanted to know if you could happen to play the switch while it’s docked and charging, and use the wired controller at the same time- I’m not sure if I had missed it in the video if you happened to say anything like that but just wondering! :))

    • @FamilyGeekery
      @FamilyGeekery  Год назад +1

Not a dumb question. But, yes. All the docks I’ve tested allow you to play with a wired controller while the Switch is docked. Check out my other videos, there are a few more docks that I recommend more than this one.

Are these reliable yet? I’m wary of any third party dock.

    • @FamilyGeekery

I haven’t had any problems with third part docks. I know in the early days there were some problems, but I haven’t heard of any since then.
