Join Daniel Norton OnSet as he explores hard and soft light with a very simple single light set-up. Changing the size of your light source changes the look and feel of your images, sometimes we want hard, sometimes soft and sometimes somewhere in between.

cool - great reminder that you dont have to break out softboxes and umbrellas for these types of a look and being creative using just one light can be all thats needed - im guilty of often getting 2 and more speedlites out to add kicker and background lights before even doing a single light setup - thanks so much for your inspiring work and teachings which on top of my own experimentations and practice im hoping will eventuallly get me into a photography role full time

Okkkk now i get it why i was getting hot spots even with bigger softbox..it needs to be more diffused to low the contrast right?

Abhishek Maurya Right, hotspots are specular highlights which are controlled by diffusion

Another great training session, but it would seem that with such a small light source and doing only a head shot, that you could get away with a much smaller reflector.

The size of the light source doesn't matter when bouncing off a reflective surface like a reflector. The Power of the flash is important not the size of the head, any Speedlight will have enough power at the distance from flash to the reflector in this case but, More power when the reflective surface is further away from the Speedlight.
Daniel did use the dome to spread the light, then he had to flag it to stop spillage onto the subject
The bigger the reflective surface and the distance to the subject the softer the light. Bigger also means it wraps around the subject more, in turn, filling in more shadows making a softer light.
Also a wall, foam core board, and a Brooklyn reflector, all could be used as a reflector.
