Top video mate 👍. Everything is explained perfectly and after watching this I'm pretty sure even I can tackle the job and I know nothing about cars. So cheers for saving me the future garage bills. 😎
Hello, I think it is a very good video, but it lacks details, could you show the models of the spark plugs, the air filter, oil, and what oil should be put 5w30 or 5w40 or 10w40? And how much, thank you very much
Hi it’s 5w30 oil and as for the rest of the parts you can visit eurocarparts.com and enter your registration for parts made for your car hope this helps thanks
Hi just only just come a cross your video,,i do have one question,i get a rattle on start up been told its the vvt valves, but also been told if i done oil change it may solve the problem,,any advice you can give me will be appreciated and the video was excellent and detailed and easy to follow,,,Thanks
Rattle on start up is normal when you do your first start up immediately after the oil change but for it to happen every time seems to be a problem that will need further looking into by a specialist. If the car is due an oil change then no harm to try this first.
Top video Jay thank you! I followed this when I done my service and all turned out perfectly. Had to replace my coil pack as had a misfire. Just done a coolant flush too. I've had the spanner symbol on the dash for a while now and it says it's the coolant temperature sensor, any chance you could do a video showing where this is and how to change it please? Looks like the engine your working on is an XER as same layout as mine.
Hi Paul thanks a lot for positive feedback glad it helped you. The coolant sensor is in the actual expansion tank it’s a common problem on Astra’s I’ve replaced so many but easiest way to go about it is simply by replacing the whole expansion tank which will come with a new sensor fitted also will look nice and clean and will 100% solve your problem hopefully this helps. You could just buy a sensor remove expansion tank and replace it simply twists and comes out but I would just replace the whole tank 👍🏽
Thank you for this video really appreciate it. Is it okay to help me with all the tools you used in this video? Or the main exact ones please Thank you

Very good video bro 😎. Like propert A to Z shit . What I mean some videos just fast forward , but this step by step , very good Fr a man that don’t jack about cars lol 😂.
Hi Jay just wondering did this car have issues with performance going up hills??? I’m just about to replace my air filter. I’ve been told it could be the spark plugs too. Which isn’t expensive if it was. Thanks for your feedback. The issues with hills is what I’m currently experiencing in my 2008 Holden Astra (or whatever you call them there in UK as we call them Holdens here in Australia) only done 221,700kms (or miles) not too bad.
Hi it was lacking power in general not specifically uphill, you can try do a a full service oil filters and plugs if it doesn’t help maybe look into the coilpack because they are prone for burning out internally hopefully this helps thanks for watching the video.
Hi Jay I’ve had all of the above done I’ve had my head gasket replaced now, new oil cooler, new timing belt (as the kms on clock 251,000 (2008 AH Astra I have or Vauxall) my mechanic is saying get a whole new refurbished engine now as it’s got a mystery issue where it’s loosing all coolant and going into the sump. On researching it’s saying could be the front cover gasket? (I’ve replaced head gasket and oil cooler seals and new oil cooler) Could someone or yourself confirm please as I’ve basically brought my car again trying to fix it all I don’t want to cash out at $1000 + again on labour and refurb engine. Thank you Could it be my water pump? It’s coolant completely emptying from coolant container and going into the sump. (Couldn’t be head gasket as it was machined and all done/cleaned by engineers)
Hey bro. I have an Astra h 1.6 Xer with 116 HP and i have trouble locating the fuel filter. Most mecanics told me that this tipe of engine has no fuel filter. Thx
I had the same issue locating the fuel filter and what I've been told is that the fuel filter is located in the fuel pump it'd self and never needed to he replaced unless changing the fuel pump I have the petrol engine so I just service the oil and all the other filters
Hi mate, I've had a really rough idle so first I changed the spark plugs, no improvement. I then changed the coil pack and it's made a massive difference but still not quite 100%... would you advise changing the plugs again? Will a damaged coil pack of damage the relatively new plugs I put in?
9 times out of 10 is just the coilpack, try taking out the spark plugs and giving them a clean with a wire brush and see if that helps also just do a general service oil filter etc.
I've got a Holden Astra, but it's really an Opel or Vauxhalle or whatever, and compared to locally made Australian Holden's everything on the car is complicated, awkward and requires silly tools, can't even change the brake pads without a special tool. Feel bad for European Mechanics, Opels VWs, Volvo's and Jags, they're all awful to work on. I'll take a Japanese or US car any day.
It could be anywhere from the rocker cover gasket to the sump gasket! use some brake cleaner to clean it all up and then check it again after a week or so and wherever you see fresh oil you will then be able to locate where the oil is leaking from. I hope this helps please like subscribe & share 👍🏽
@@jaysworkshopgarage where are you based? as I have another issue now with my exhaust I believe. Seems to be a knocking noise when I go over uneven roads, pot holes bumps but no noise on plain smooth roads. Lovely Video Jay, very clear and logical presentation.

After this video i can do my own full service all i need to get is my own toolkit with full tools.
So much useful video
Excellent well done glad to help
Just watched your video as my vauxhall was getting serviced. If they do as good a job as you I'll be very happy.

Hi yes it’s basically exactly the same
You should have had the oil filler cap on when you were working on the car!

Good video but plugs need to be gapped to 1.35mm,
Thanks and true but I’ve realised they come pre gapped these days if parts are ordered by registration.
Nice one mate
Thanks hope it helped
4 litres ? Is that correct ? I thought it was 4.75 with a filter change
not on the 1.4 or 1.6 maybe on the 1.8 engine

Ebay Rhino Ramps

@@jaysworkshopgarage It’s a 1.6 SRI with the filter at the front of the engine

I’ve never had to change one not sure
It's a non serviceable part with the fuel pump
Hi do you know where the fuel filter is on this car (Petrol)?
Yes under the drivers side of the car next to the rear wheel hope this helps.
Fuel filter should he located in the fuel pump it's self and don't need to he changed on the petrol engine
Long shot as video is old but does anyone know where the oil pressure sensor is on this car thanks
If you’re looking straight at the engine it’s just under the rocker cover gasket to the front left of the engine
It’s not there like on every video it’s there on mine there’s only the thread but no sensor so must be somewhere else it’s a mk5(h)
