    • @maxmeier532
      @maxmeier532 2 года назад +4

      I dont think anyone has intel on what KD's "Price" was before and directly after. The situation is just totally different, no team wants to give up a lot up for KD right now, knowing the Nets are in a tough spot with him wanting out. And if you go through the teams that even have the players and picks to trade for him, you'll find it hard for any team to justify to give all that up for 33 year old KD who will have get 45 mill per year. Especially after we saw against Boston that he cant be the one guy on the team who makes the buckets, he needs All Star players around him and he basically said so himself. And he wants to be a contender so what team can trade (what) for him and still have a good starting five with some good players from the bench. I can see Phx and Mia and that's about it. KD for Ayton, CP and 2-3 picks and maybe Payne or Crowder. For Miami, KD for Herro, Duncan, Oladipo and 2 picks. Dubs would be crazy to trade for him, they have built a dynasty of homegrown players as well as lay offs from other teams and made it work. Just coming from a ring, deep deep team with their potential future stars still growing. They shouldnt go down that route and trade away their literal soul. They cant get KD in 5 years on a 1 year deal or sth.

    • @KidAndretti
      @KidAndretti 2 года назад +1

      @@maxmeier532 yeah I agree. The warriors situation would be crazy. They got a good young core and I wouldn’t take that risk giving up such good prospects for a 33 year old guy on my 4 year bloated contract. Like you said, PHX and MIA are literally the two best trade destinations

  • @zmonkey111
    @zmonkey111 2 года назад +45

    Some things to think about. KD faced a pretty tough defense in Boston and showed his age. And he's only getting older. You realistically have a one year window to win a chip with Paul, Booker, and Durant. And that falls firmly on Paul. KD may have showed his age a bit, but Paul went full send when the games got tougher. His body couldn't handle the workload.
    So basically, if you grab KD, you just mortgaged your future for one year. Signing Ayton keeps you having a young nucleus you can keep building around.
    And I don't know if old Paul, KD, and Booker can take a healthy Nuggets or GSWs. And how Chris Paul is going to guard Banes or Morant in Memphis...nah. Phoenix made the right play. They didn't want to turn into the Brooklyn Nets.

      The deal is to get Ayton to the Nets. No other piece other than Ayton or Booker is making the deal happen to get KD to the Suns.

    This is a Perkinsesque take. Ayton is one of the best centers in the NBA and is worth the money. He brings a lot of things to the plate that the Suns would miss if they let him go. He can be traded later down the road if they feel like it. They did the right thing.

    Musai ujiri isnt trading fred vanvleet, scottie barnes, pascal siakam or precious achiuwa. Any trade you can imagine with those guys in it wont ever go down... Sorry. You might say"well he traded derozan!" .... after losing to lebron for 4 years and demar gave up on the team emotionally the final year. His hand was tied. He gave them years and they couldnt do it. That trade was desperation and it paid off but the raptors arent desperate. We were like the fifth best team in the nba from january to playoffs and our core is insanely young. This core is borderline a dynasty and musai ujiri specifically hand picked each of these players because he believes in them with his soul. The championship team was inherited and he made it work but this is finally his team. He wont sell his vision for durant or anybody.
    The best offer the raptors make to the nets would be:
    gary trent jr and og ananoby and a handful of firsts. Take it or leave it because we dont evne want durant that bad. We are super content with keeping our team as is. Only reason those guys are a consideration is the logjam of talent and minutes and expiring contracts.

    There were no other teams with max cap space and interest in Ayton other than the Pacers. Them putting Phoenix on the clock meant Phoenix either had to match or lose Ayton for nothing. Pacers should waited on the KD domino to fall. The chance to acquire KD may have meant the Suns were more willing to part with Ayton in a sign and trade.

    The Suns had the best record in the league last year by a healthy margin. They lost a tight series because they had a disgruntled player who didn't get his bag. Well, he got that bag now. The Suns dealt with a big time distraction (Sarver's misogyny allegations) last year and held up admirably throughout most of it. I don't see how they don't grow from last year's experience and come out stronger this year. They have pretty much the same team that ruled the regular season last year. Meanwhile, the team that knocked them out is undergoing a major change, losing their second best player (Brunson) and having to work in an untested scorer (Wood) that doesn't defend that well. The Clippers will be getting back their best player (Kawhi) but who knows how long he lasts. The Lakers are still filled with the same drama. The defending champions just lost the bulk of their trusted bench and are looking to replace them with internal growth. The Jazz just lost their defensive centerpiece (Gobert) to Minnesota and the T'wolves will have to figure out how to work him into their system. The Grizzlies are the only major contender that hasn't undergone major change, aside from losing a few bench players. The way I see it, the Suns' window is as wide open as it has been these past couple of years.

      Finally. A reasonable comment that bodies the whole “the west will be better next year” argument. Running it back may not be the best thing in the world, but it’s not awful either. The team is battle tested now. Pretty much every single champion in the history of the league had to take its bumps and bruises before winning s chip. The Suns just got really good really quickly, so now everybody says they’re frauds and chokers. If they lose in the 2nd or 3rd round last year to a healthy team, the narrative changes. But bc they lost in the finals being up 2-0 and then choked this season they’re bums apparently. Three have more returning consistency still than most teams in the west.

    Look at how the Harden trade to Brooklyn went down. Ideally, you use Ayton in a 3 team deal but just because he is off the table doesn't mean the Suns are screwed. If the Suns are KD's preferred destination, which they clearly are at this point, he will likely get his way like the other super stars in this league have. The Suns have good wings, tons of expiring contracts, and are the only team in the NBA who owns all of their draft picks going forward. The Nets have control over how long it takes and can drag a disgruntled Durant along for a bit, but unless Durant changes his mind on Brooklyn he'll get what he wants. When, not if.

People seem to forget that KD wants to play for Phoenix and he is a hall of famer in a player driven league. He will get what he wants even if it takes 6 or 12 months because nobody wants to trade for KD if he doesn't want to be there the same way he didn't want to be on the Nets. That reason itself would never even make sense to a front office, "shit everyone wants this guy, lets not make the best offer we dont wanna be the team making the best offer". I respectfully disagree with quite a bit of this, and it sounds like ur premise maybe slightly misinformed.
    Last year Aytons camp wanted a 5 year max deal which would have been $179M (give or take) - The Suns countered and said they didn’t dispute the value per year, but didn’t want to lock into a 5 year deal. This offseason as the KD talks looked like it was either not happening or further away than expected, they waited for the Pacers to send an offer sheet as they were not the team that drafted him they couldn’t offer as much as the suns potentially could per year. So they ended up matching a 4 year deal at $133M - so in the end they got both the contract length they wanted, for $40M less and now have a far more palatable contract attached to him than a $179 max would have been to trade in January or whenever they decide to. The $179/5 yr would have been a nightmare.

    Phoenix made the franchise-ruining mistake 4 years ago; this Ayton contract is just a necessary repercussion of having a contending team despite that mistake. They f----d themselves when they decided to draft Ayton over Luka Doncic. That is Sam Bowie/Darko Milicic levels of draft incompetence and takes a decade+ from which to recover. Also, don't be shortsighted. Ayton can be traded after 1/15/23. That's well before the deadline. And I'm quite sure Broolyn made it painfully clear that an Ayton-Bridges package for KD was legitimately dead-last on their list of offers. The stupidity of that draft selection 4yrs ago put them in this impossible position where they essentially *have* to match this offer or lose a 23yr old former #1 pick for literally nothing. 30 NBA GMs out of 30 would have matched the offer & resigned Ayton under these conditions. They had no choice. What you need to understand is that they ruined their chance at a title many years prior, and this is just collateral damage from that cataclysmic error.
