I used to shop at wet seal
Barneys …it was sad the last time I went to New York it wasn’t there. They had a great section of up and coming designers. That was still expensive but it wasn’t crazy prices and it was really good quality. I bought stuff there 10 years ago that still is brilliant condition. I felt Barneys cared about new blood in fashion and it was a great shop for investment pieces
this is an old one and will show my age but S.W.A.K. (Sealed With A Kiss)
And the Guess, Esprit and Benetton shops. I know they still exist but not like back then!!!
Not a big fan of shopping.
If these are american stores why is the voice over british?
The store I miss the most is DEBs -- they weren't a major retailer, but they were one of the only options for cute and trendy plus-size clothes that I loooooved as a teen. They even had prom dresses under $100 in all sizes!
Got my prom dress for about $70 at DEB!
I was thinking they would mention this store..loved it and fashion bug
Lol I remember Deb and the prom dresses!
same here. I spent so much there. They basically the only thing in my wardrobe. They had so much selection for cheap prices.
Yesss one of the first to be size inclusive before it was a thing for plus sized teens, I use to drive out of town shop at DEB.
If you go into a retail shop please treat it with respect. Don’t trash it/mess it up and please treat the associates like people.
Yea don’t be a Karen lol
Unless you go into a store on a dull day. I used to practically beg customers to screw displays up to give me something to do, I was so bored at work at my local banana republic
Thank you as retail assoicate I appreciated this comment
I was obsessed with justice as a tween. They even did scheduled birthday parties there and my cousin had it there one year. They would do little makeovers on you and then give you makeup and a sparkly headband. I may or may not still have a skort from there that still fits....even though I'm in my late 20s. 😂 and wet seal was definitely a favorite as a teen! I'm still sad it's closed! Age be damned! Lol
It was Limited Too when I was growing up and my friends and I loved it
I always passed by the Justice in Virginia Center Commons thinking to myself how cool it looked even though I was already 15 and out of the targeted demographic for the store. Plus, I was wearing like a size 16 back then so it's not like any of the clothes would've probably fit me anyway.
Wet seal has good memories for me because my husband bought me sandals there on out first date. They still have a shop online you can shop from.
I remember most of these stores. The biggest tragedy was Limited Too.
Right :(
Limited Too is iconic!
Used to be my fave store as a kid
I remember Limited Too had all the best spice girls merch! Even had the lollipops nj the register lol
@@AnnaC.GoodVibes2U It was one of my favorites, too.
I loved getting Delia’s catalogs and ogling all the clothes I couldn’t buy lol
The catalog!!!!
I shopped at wet seal faithfully throughout the early 2000s and the birthday discount was always clutch!!!!
I remember Mervyn’s commercials- open!open!open! lol
I loved Gadzooks. Also, while it didn't make this list, Deb is probably the clothing store I miss the most. I spent so much time in there as a teen.
Deb was such a fun store. I managed the one that was in my local mall. I got to travel a lot with them and helped with store remodels. My most favorite retail job ever.
Press F to pay respects...

I really miss DEB Shops having brick and mortar stores. Their plus size selection was amazing. I also got all of my school dance dresses there. I’m still glad they exist online though.
So many of these retailers lost their quality of time. Why spent $15 on a shirt that you have to layer because it's too thin? Or $20 on a dress that will come apart after 3-4 washes? Fast Fashion isn't sustainable. I'd rather buy high quality vintage clothes for twice the price and have them last me for 10+ years.
Who could forget Delias, The Limited, and Wet Seal?!?
I never shopped at these stores but they were so popular when I was in middle school & HS. I also remember The Limited 2 and
Justice, but I was an adult by then.
Abercrombie was popular. Aeropostale too. Lacoste. Hot Topic
I'm still bummed that Mervyn's is gone! Their clothes were awesome!
Their clothes section was the best! It beat out Kohl’s, target, Old Navy all of them
Ahhh my middle school years are flashing before my eyes!
I’m mexican and I remember how excited I was when I traveled to USA because I was going to buy my clothes in Limited Too🤩. Then when it changed to Justice, my sister was excited to buy her clothes there
I grew up with Limited Too and my sister grew up with Justice
It frustrates me to death that people always rely on online shopping.
I mean I'm glad that online shopping exists but does it always have to be relied upon?
Actually being there is more of a fun experience rather than browsing through your dang computer can't anybody realize that? :(
Same. You can't try anything online. You might end up buying something that doesn't fit you and will have to send it back. Plus, just scrolling for clothes can be numbing.
I want too see it and walk out the door with it not wait
Sorry online shopping is the best. I hate going to stores and avoid it at all costs. Also by showing pics of all the clothes styled and on models really allows me to choose items I would have overlooked on a hanger in a store. Still sad they went bankrupt though....
Wet Seal.
That’s where Tatianna got most of her clothes from for season 2 of Drag Race… right?
Stream same parts on Spotify
I loved this one too!
Contempo Casuals & Millers Outpost were also great and now gone :(
I remember getting my Hypercolor tee at Millers outpost
I miss LimitedToo, Justice, and Wet Seal T^T
The Limited was my jam. I loved that store!
I remember going to Mervyn's all the time growing up in the 90s for clothes shopping, especially for back to school.
No love for 5-7-9? I miss that store! Popular in the 90s along with The Gap and Banana Republic. I like the idea there was a specialized shop for odd sizes and tiny people, size 00 was common back then. I guess with the trend of fast social life including fast food, it's demise was inevitable.
Size 00 was just vanity sizing. It has nothing to do with fast food.
@@visgrrl1 duh!! I know that. Just saying, with fast food as an American staple diet, hard pressed to find small people who can fit size 00 now.
5-7-9 hahahaha forgot about that one
Lol
That was my favorite store in middle and high school!!
I was depressed for years after Loehmann’s closed. Their Back Room was legendary. TJ Maxx and Marshall’s could NEVER!
Omg! Me too!! I loooved Loehmann’s!!
Arden B!?
I think you should have included Fashion Bug, Marshall Fields, Montgomery Ward, Bullock’s, I. Magnin, or Bon Marché instead. At least an honorable mention for those stores!
Remember Dots?
I forgot about Dots!
I miss Dayton's. I loved wandering around the flagship store in downtown Minneapolis when I was little. It represented Christmas magic to me as a kid. Even their mall locations were always the fanciest store in the area.
My childhood! But of course the got swallowed in succession by Hudson’s, then Marshall Fields and finally the national plague known as Macys. Bye bye Midwest customer service 😔
When I heard British narrator I thought it was going to be British stores but I realised now 80% of the defunct stores were owned by one group so it would be a short list 😬 If you’re not British or Irish, there was this fast-fashion group called Arcadia group that owned tons of popular brands that usually decked malls and main shopping streets so when it went bust, the brands it owned did too. As a result serval chains left “the high street” (main shopping streets and malls) at once and left a big void now. Hope we learned now, it’s a bad idea left one company control too much of your commercial landscape. Anyway the brands that left were iconic especially in the early 2000s like TopShop
It's sad with all the places that have to shut down
I worked my way through college at barney's. I love going out shopping. I can't get used to online shopping not feeling the merchandise. Sad to see stores bite the dust
Lerner’s or Hess’…and I really miss the concept of “sidewalk sales” at so many stores
I spent my late teens working and spending my pay check at Filene’s, discovered the best one downtown by Wall Street and across from the world trade centers. They had truly high end clothing, even minks, at discount prices. Now Barney’s was the place I went shopping for my first stylist job at a photo shoot. I miss that beautiful store😢
I used to love Gazooks when I was in high school!
I really miss The Limited and B. Moss the most.
Anyone remember Paul Harris? I loved that store in the 90's! I miss Kmart and Sears too.
Does anyone remember dress barn?
I would like FAO Schwarz. that store was my childhood!!! I miss it!
The y reopened near the Rockefeller center tree
I miss fashion bug… I remember when Target and mervyns were sister stores so you got employee discount in both places
I remember this. The discount could also be used at Suncoast Records.
Thanks for mentioning Filenes!!
You bet!
Filene’s. My mother is a shoe addict n this was one of faves. I spent my childhood there
At least Hot Topic is still around.
Yup one of my fav clothing stores
Ughh I miss wet seal they had all my long skinny jeans. They was one of the few that my tall self could’ve shop lol & 5•7•9 loved that store 😔
Please do a video on the history of F.W. woolworths 5 and dime discount store
Love the way she pronounced Puerto Rico while talking about Wet seal!!!
Puertoh’ Reecoah’ 😂
Wet seal really bummed me out. But I only started shopping there cuz they closed Rave that one should of been on the list.
anyone remember anchor blue? loved that store!!! much better then pac sun. is that place even still around?
I remember bradlees and Ames too and of course building #19
Also Jamesway
Filenes was the stores all suburban moms love going to back in the 90s. I used to go to The Limited way back in the early 00s. I loved The Limited clothes back then but they were a bit pricy.
Does anyone remember Oak Tree, Wild Pair, Chess King, and of course, Jordan Marsh
My mall had a Chess King when I was a kid and teenager.
Chess King! The place to get Z Cavaricci's
The Delia's one hurts. Memories!
I wore limited too clothing during my middle school years and wet seal as well. I also remember shopping at Robinsons may with my mom and hiding in the clothing racks.
Arden B was my favorite as a 21 year old shopping for club outfits, then going to bakers to find shoes.
I have never heard of most of those stores, as a Canadian we didn't have any of those here except Espirt.
But up here we had a big clothing store called Zellers that was bought out by Target. We also had one called Woolco which was bought by Walmart and that's how they expanded into Canada.
Wet Seal was for sure my favorite! I bought all my clothes from there
I remember shopping at Justice as a kid. most of my closet was from Justice... I cant believe they closed. 😢
Clothing/retail industry is so bad for the environment anyways.
How? I get fast fashion being bad but we all need clothes therefore we need retail stores that sale clothes. Now practices need to change for sure as well as how they treat employees(I know because I work retail). There's no way around us not having retail just fyi.
@@sarahprince2412 you can find a lot of research about the topic online and in books. There are many ways to reduce consumerism, gas emission and natural resource extractions.
What would you suggest we wear instead? Sackcloth? Not everyone has a spinning wheel. 🙄
The Broadway,Robinsons May, Contempo,Miller's Outpost,Red Eye
My wardrobe in middle school was all limited too, that one hit hard
Squire Shop and Anchor Blue. I always wanted to see "The Running Of The Brides" live and in person....
Sad hat those stores for numerous reasons, such as the pandemic, company mismanagement, online etc, but competitors who are in fast fashion is a controversial one too, particularly the environmental damage and allegations of underpaid sweatshop staff.
I was either not born yet or way too young when these stores were around. The only store I recognize was Justice but never shopped there.
Barneys closed in 2020. Are less than 2 years old?
Did u ever thought that it's not that you are too young to remember them, instead u r just ignorant?
I wonder which clothing stores will be around for a long time
My mother used to work at Mervins and be a company clown for events, she still has the suit!
I also remember DEB and Body Central in high school that was the go to place for any type of going out outfits
Am I the only one who recognized Barbie Ferreira from Euphoria in the Wet Seal ad?
Man, wet seal brings back memories. OMG filenes, that’s one I really forgot about
I used to shop at Filene's Basement with my grandmother. Always thought I'd get my wedding dress there
It's always the same way, where ever you live in any country, you favourite clothes store, always disappears in the end. I now buy from mail order people or my large local supermarket, rarely do I risk buying clothes elsewhere because this always happens. I'm from the UK, one shop I used to use disappeared because it belong to a big company called Arcadia, whose entire empire collapsed. One other one went online and now sells expensive fast fashion junk. So it's more reliable sources for me, however one of them has so declined in quality, I haven't brought anything off them in months. This is all so sad. Added to that some of my most favourite old clothes, come from a shop that left the UK years ago and went back to the continent, C&A.
I miss being able to shop at a Juicy couture store!
Juicy is still sold in department stores
Sears and Lands End closing marked the end of my childhood.💔
My friends and I used to shop at Filene's basement. Except on the days when they did the wedding dress sales. Because we didn't want to, y'know, die. 🤣
Arden B for fun times hanging out and The Limited for work clothes. Now we are left with crappy Shein and the quality of Zara has gone down significantly. Where do shop these days?
Women's plus sized retailer Avenue closed all their stores and is now strictly online. I miss my local store. 😢
I went to Deila's a couple of times, and then I never saw the store again 😢
OMG! I remember Mervyns and Wet Seal!
I miss Mervyn’s, wet seal, the limited , and Robinsons may.
I was just thinking about Bebe the other day.
The limited did not deserve to go out of business they were really nice! I had no idea they were having problems I went to the mall and then literally found out that they were out of business!
Please do a video on the history and decline of restaurant chain howard johnsons
I think I remember Limited Too
Man Limited Too was so fun when I was a kid.
Also what about Bebe?
I’m honestly kinda surprised they went with a name like Wet Seal. It sounds like the name of an adult toy store.
I miss J.L. Hudson's and flag ship store in downtown Detroit, MI.
I used to work at the limited when I was in college.
I DID NOT KNOW Barneys closed down 😮
I loved Mr. RAGS in the mall had some really cool shirts in the 90s
I miss Christopher & Banks and The Limited. 💔😩
Please do a video on defunct retail stores
delia's ,wet seal, the limited ,abercombre and fitch
My dad and I worked at Barney’s ny. Everytime I pass it on Madison Ave, I feel sad. Sucks Ny couldn’t save it. It was a ny landmark.
Steve and Barry's
Delia's was my wardrobe throughout my teenage years.
Was the sound messed up for anyone else? Like the clips of the clothing stores and stuff were normal but then while Samantha was talking it was super low
Deb was my middle school and high school store. 💔
Funny, we still have ESPRIT here in Ecuador but they went under in other countries.
How did bebe not make the list lol I just knew they would have
I love to see to wet seal come back to 2020s deacade now. I remember delia 's
just finding out barney's ny has died (don't live there so didn't know) is the most shocking. im surpised it was just #10
Merry Go Round? Bugle Boy? Justice? Kmart? Sears?
I once knew Filene’s at the Square One Mall.
Still haven’t gotten over top shop and top man
