    The german singer was blind so maybe that's the reason why she wasn't moving on stage.

      Patrick P Well, she was moving - but only her fingers, clapping them onto the microphone again and again. This was the very first ESC I ever saw as a kid, and I remember my mother being quite irritated about this "move". 😊

    Many Eurovision fans hate this year and call it the worst. I've never understood that. It's not the best but it's a good year. Latvia, UK, Malta and Denmark are my favourites. I'm still shocked with Denmark's final result. What a crime!

    Just a couple of anecdotes: It's funny you said that Sahlene from Estonia was serving vocals cause at that time everyone thought something was missing in her performance and it was indeed true: as she was on her way to the stage, she mistakenly grabbed one of the backing singers' microphone so we basically couldn't hear her properly through the entire thing. Anyway her performance was brilliant so kudos to her. And did you know that ESC 2002 was the most watched thing in the history of Spain? It remained so up until 2008 and it is still the fifth most watched tv moment. The reason behind that is that Rosa became popular in the very first season of Operación Triunfo that was a hit on Spanish TV.

    2002 was actually the first year I decided to watch Eurovision because I was interested (I think I started watching in 1997 just because my father was into Eurovision), and I decided to become a fan! It was a really good year!! By the way, my winner was Malta that year!

    I was really looking forward to your comments on 2002, I don't know why it gets so much hate. I feel it's a solid contest with many current and powerful songs and it holds a special place in my heart as it was the first year that I really followed the national selections and rehearsals (Yes, I'm ancient) The down side to that was the winner. I never liked the song but I have to admit that Marie N changed the face of Eurovision forever as stagings and visuals became crucial

    • @chriskarantais
      @chriskarantais 3 года назад

      I love the fact that you call yourself ancient because you started following everything in 2002.
      Imagine how that would make me feel when I did the same back in 1996 lol

    • @mikecrystal7026
      @mikecrystal7026 3 года назад +1

      @@chriskarantais Well, even though I started following national selections and the whole process in 2002, 98 was the first contest I recall watching properly and my first eurovision memories go even further back into the early 90s so I may still be more ancient than you, if that helps hahaha just joking! If anything I would have loved to live the amazing 80s in all their glory!!

    Not saying she had to win necessarily, but France from that year was my favourite French entry for a long time. Amir and Alma kinda came for it recently so maybe not anymore. But that's some Celine Dion level, vibe and I even heard they had like the same agent/manager for a period of time. I don't know. Sandrine Francois is just power and beauty.

    I find 2002 to be kind of a hot mess, but in an endearing way. Definitely a go-to contest to have fun watching. Slovenia, Spain, Sweden & Latvia all brought the entertainment Oh, and the woman from Germany wasn't really performing because she's blind, bless her.

    Lest we forget this was the first ever Eurovision contest held in the other side of the former Iron Curtain. Not a bad year songs wise, but the stage still looks and feels very 90's and Latvia winning was a bit underwhelming.

  • @montrealkino
    @montrealkino 3 года назад +3

    The reason for the German singer just sort of standing there is that she is blind. Hey, I have a big big big request! Could you do 1980? My ansolute favourite contest of alltimes.....thx from Germany

    The thing about the 2000s and especially this year, because that there were no juries so the singers/performers had freedom and dare i say passion in singing their heart out, compared to the modern Eurovision where it feels so restricted sometimes that it hurts (I know that this sint juries fault, but year by year more forced it sounded and it would have felt in 2020 Eurovision, which is no surprise considering who were the popular 3 this year).

    Thanks Alesia for reacting such an oldiee years like this, always nice to here from you :)

  • @EldaMengisto

    In terms of songs, I think this was the worst Eurovision year ever. There's a dull baseline, the bops aren't really fun, and I could only really stand my top ten. So it's kind of a surprise when you like this year; I'm happy you found some jams in there!
    My favorite is "Il Faut du Temps" from France--it has a mid-nineties sound, fair, but Sandrine performs well and it clearly stands out from the crowd with its message and strength. I also particularly liked Runaway, 7th Wonder, Come Back, and some others. (Everything I Want is particularly fun; I love that early 2000s sound!)
    I wasn't a fan of I Wanna as a song, but I did like the performance.

  • @metalvisionsongcontest7055

    Ah yeah, that was one example of a female Turkish singer singing with a very low larynx, creating this weird, dopy and honestly not very feminine sound 😊. I've only ever heard Turkish singers do that, haven't quite figured out yet why or how exactly they use this style.

      Contrary to most people, I think there are a number of good songs this year. Cyprus, United Kingdom, Croatia, Denmark, Sweden, Estonia, France, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Belgium, Malta, Slovenia in particular. Just some of the others let it down a bit.

    Actually I've always thought Denmark had one of the strongest songs that year, but she was so uncomfortable on stage. Confident performances pushed mediocre songs of Malta and Latvia to the top. I still like the UK, North Macedonia, Estonia... not a lot of others though, this was a year with a lot of dated songs. I hate the Greek entry with a passion.

    Some of the songs were fine in 2002, but things like Israel (where the singer is super well known) were super disappointing with what they presented, and then others (like Greece) were super offkey. There were better years.
    Also the stage itself was kinda fugly.

  • @VICKY08TZ
    @VICKY08TZ 3 года назад +1

    This was one bad year, and I have been watching Eurovision since the mid 80s... ! 🤦‍♀️🤦‍♀️
    Completely indifferent songs that you don't remember after 5 minutes and those that you remember are the bad ones (like Greece).
    If I had to chose songs I prefer I would go for Sweden, Denmark, Croatia, France and Finland.
    Fun facts:
    1. German singer was blind, hence she was not moving at all. 🤨
    2. Slovenian delegation were a band of transgenders and there was a massive uproar about that. 🌈
