It’s weird how Bowser from the recent Mario movie felt more like a classic Disney villain than any of the newer villains from Disney’s modern movies. Let’s see what Bowser has: Charming personality? Check Enjoyable presence? Check Great voice performance? Check Catchy and enjoyable villain song? Check Simple yet very clear and easy to grasp motive? Check Nasty and evil as hell personality? CHECK All of these traits are what made Bowser in the Mario movie feel far more like a classic Disney villain than ironically anything that came from Disney’s animated movies nowadays.
Ironically Bowser has always been like the classic Disney Villain since his inception in the og Mario games from the 1980s, implying that Bowser was clearly inspired by those type of villains when originally created 😅😅😅
Movie Bowser is just a one dimensional man child whose only character trait is being overly obsessive with Princess Peach and driving that one character trait to the ground and making him only do evil stuff for the sake of being evil and not because of him having any genuine motive. I guess Jack Black does at least try to make Bowser entertaining with his performance (even if it doesn’t work for me personally), but the horrible writing of the movie just makes him incredibly annoying and cringe worthy rather than entertaining. He is nowhere near the same level as most Disney villains (even some of the awful ones have more character depth than him).
I'm still baffled they really said he was one of the most "diabolic villains". My dudes past big villains literally didn't hesitate killing others to get what they wanted. What's more diabolical than that? 💀 This one rewrite for Wish from a youtuber actually killed off the grandpa in front of Asha and her mother when the King destroyed his wish. Now THAT is diabolical. Just make him evil to begin with so you can make him do such stuff.
I was literally yelling “EXECUTE HER” when Asha messed with the kings glass that keeps the “evil”book locked, but he shrugs it off like nothing and then he later on demands respect
The thing about Disney villains like Scar and Jafar is that they weren't simply evil, they were dark reflections of the protagonists in a way. Aladdin ultimately defeated Jafar by tapping into Jafar's lust for power. I like that Aladdin didn't want to be Sultan, he just wanted to live a carefree life full of romance and riches. Scar kind of defeated himself by lying. It worked on Simba for a good portion of the movie, but in the end Scar's lies led to his constituents turning on him.
“Last villain we got was in Moana and we got two!” LOL F THAT. Last *REAL* villain we got was Mother Gothel: kidnapping, selfish, manipulating, conniving, liar, a literal witch, emotionally abusive throughout the whole film and then physically abusive towards the end of the movie, cuts Rapunzel off from all society and makes her think she’s an idoit, uses her like a slave, has TWO good villain songs, and even kills off the main love interest of the main character. Mother Gothel was a more tame version of John Claude Frollo; those two would get along great and even be an amazing villian couple. At the very least in my personal head canon they might even be related since Mother Gothel is at least centuries years old traveling the world (Europe mainly) for a way to stay forever young and beautiful.
Recent Disney villains seem more like poorly written antagonists, instead of being true villains. Most other studios have dethroned Disney about who can make better quality villains, and who can't do that because of how easy it is to believe that this company is currently pretty pathetic at doing that.
Disney villains are always interesting well. The old ones I Love Disney villains. When I was a kid. Can I love it? Like I was Obsessed with Disney villains as a kid. And since an adult I still do love old disney villains
To be honest, the entirety of Wish felt like it was structured through ChatGPT. Other great Disney villains include Mother Gothel, Dr. Falicier, Maleficent, Hades, Jafar, King Candy/Turbo, Ratigan, John Silver, Yzma, Tamatoa, et cetera. Sure, Disney had their twist villains or no villains at all, but this is what we get? THAT WAS THEIR MISTAKE! Kingdom Hearts had better villains than Wish at this point with Ansem Seeker of Darkness, Xemnas, Vanitas, Xehanort, and eventually the Master of Masters. I do hope Nomura and the KH team give him a villain song since Ray Chase and Tomokazu Sugita would be good singers for it in KH4! #LetsGiveTheMasterOfMastersAVillainSong
ChatGPT seems like the common scapegoat goat for people to blame the film’s faults on. But the truth is… we’ve seen incompetently made movies before, all entirely manmade. The reason why the film turned out the way it did is likely due to studio interference and mandates, clashing with the original intended vision.
The Last Non-Twist Villain villain from modern disney is Dr Facilier from Princess and the Frog , Now the Corporate rat only thinks to play safe and overuse the overused tropes
Mother Gothel from Tangled, y'mean. And Turbo/King Candy was great as a different sort of "Twist Villain" where the twist isn't "he seemed good but he's actually a bad guy" since he's antagonistic from the get-go.

I disagree with you on villains already in power being boring. There are plenty of villains with complete control of a society that are great and engaging. What’s missing with Magnifico is a reason for the audience to hate and/or fear him - he’s presented as being way too sympathetic for the audience to find any reason to view him as a threat. He really needed a reason to be scary, and not just chalked up to some evil book that inexplicably drives him insane because the stakes needed to be upped.
4:52 I wouldn’t say one of the worst. Remember that the live action Little Mermaid came out this year and we were given the absolute bullcrap that is Scuttlebutt
I feel like Maleficent was the beginning of the end of real Disney villains. After that movie, all of the evil Disney villains had become tragic characters with sob stories. Even Cruella becomes evil because the Damlatians trew her mother off a cliff. Absolutely ridiculous
More like the beginning of the return of real Disney villains since Raya, Encanto and Strange World never have that. Hopefully future Disney films will have true real villains. Hope and see.
Like my best friend has said: You know my friend, I’ve come to a realization. As of right now, Wish is truly like Santa’s bell from the ending of The Polar Express. It can only be truly seen and appreciated with the praise and respect it deserves by true Disney Fans😊
The dude takes parts of people's very souls, breaks them, and consumes them in order to gain more power with which to oppress them all. That is hella evil.
I really like the concept art much better it especially with King Magnifico and his wife being evil with their cat. I wish that they could keep that concept and instead the plot is about King Magnifico and his wife who rules with an iron first and Asha could be their daughter and she was abused by her parents the only positive influence is her maid. This is more of a reimagining by using old concepts. I could see that maybe Asha would sometimes go out of her castle because she wanted to escape and instead of her being quirky for being quirky like in the film I can see her being shy and more vulnerable. Asha in her birthday could wish her people in her kingdom wouldn’t suffer under her parents iron fist than we would get the star prince. Honestly wish have so much potential instead they chose the safe route which is sad. They could’ve done a Prince John like in the film Robin Hood he is trying to keep his power but he failed due to him not being a good ruler I can see they try to do that route but they failed miserably.
The problem isnt that there's no villain or the villain is bad Encanto has no villain but its an good film Medusa is a bad villain because the way she treated penny and the movie is still awesome
I despise “this is the things I get” coz it’s too upbeat and mediocre. The lyrics are bland and soulless. If you compared it with hellfire from Norte dame there is a nostalgia about the song. Hellfire has a powerful aura which is known for being the number one masterpiece in history. Unlike Chris pine version; it has no meaning.
Why's everyone hating on Wish? It's one of the best things Disney has put out in a while. Maybe I'm just so starved for a new IP that anything is an improvement, or I see so many real life oppressive political figures with about as much known motivation as Magnifico for why they rule the way they do and the whole "make your dreams a reality yourself, don't wait on others to do it for you" message resonates with me, but I really liked it.
Because they deleted so many good ideas villain couple Asha falling in love with Star as a human 2D animation but they scrapped all that Wish was sabotaged

Don't forget Mother Gothel from Tangled! Her villian song is a bop and she gets more backstory in a series that doesn't ruin her arch.

Chris Pine is a really great actor, and I think he could have actually made a super great villain… had he not been cast in Wish.
He hoped that Magnifico will be iconic as Scar, Jafar, Ursula, Gaston, Frollo, Ratcliffe, Shan-Yu and Clayton.
The thing about Disney villains like Scar and Jafar is that they weren't simply evil, they were dark reflections of the protagonists in a way. Even if those old school villains were butchered wasted and bastardised in the live action movie from Darth Disney.

When I heard the title of the song

And it ended up as a Disney junior villain song

At least Disney did it's best to bring back true villain archetype with Magnifico.
All Magnifico needed was better writing, to be a great villain but sadly they wasted him.
Disney villains are always interesting well. The old ones I Love Disney villains. When I was a kid. Can I love it?
Like I was Obsessed with Disney villains as a kid.

The woman who says "Still I think he's rather tasty" in Aladdin is a better villain than Magnifico.
😂😅
Maybe modern Disney films have been doing bad with their villians lately. Their TV animation departement however crafted incredible new villains!
