  • Museum of Fine Arts, Houston director Gary Tinterow, Rothko Chapel executive director David Leslie, and Menil Collection head librarian Eric Wolf talk about the legacy of abstract-expressionist artist Mark Rothko (1903-1970), and why Houston is currently the ultimate destination city for lovers of Rothko's work. The MFAH is currently showing "Mark Rothko: A Retrospective," an exhibition of more than 60 paintings tracing Rothko's entire career arc, on view through January 24, 2016.

      creepy but compelling
      I first thought hummppph
then I sat and gazed at the panels and eventually saw depth and movement
finally the creepy Stazi-like docents who had been literally hovering about looking over my shoulder the who;e time (as if) shooed me out
the images remained transfixed in my vision for several minutes
      and ultimately
      frozen in my mind's eye
I go back the same date and time every year
