- Mostly known for his Gilded Age portraits in oil, John Singer Sargent (1856-1925) was also a prolific watercolorist, one of the best ever. Museum of Fine Arts Houston assistant curator Kaylin Weber talks about Sargent's masterful depiction of light and shadow, and why Houston is an especially appropriate stop for this traveling exhibition.
I routinely show this video to my watercolor students. I hope this video continues to be available for my future classes.
ALL beautiful....and the music so well chosen ! Thanks
My god I swoon at his Watercolors.......I swung by Philly a few years ago to catch the Sargent/Homer exhibit, and was so wonderful. I wish I could be a fly on the wall to watch him lay down those colors and brush strokes. He is by far my favorite Watercolorist, such life in his paintings......
She must hate the art, to do this to it.

Thank you, Sir!
Good tip...thx so much.
She is a beautiful lady and really presented how wonderful these works are.
I can see her being drawn by sargent
What beautiful pieces of watercolors! I had known him more for his portraits and drawings. Brilliant Artist! 👍
She's so pretty and Sargent is the G.O.A.T!
The play of light is a beautifull theme that attracts us for ever - lovely exhibition that must have been fantastic to watch in reality
art peaked with sargent
Chopped the paintings up...kept them MOVING so you NEVER see what the painting looks like unmolested. Talking heads and cut-up paintings are an insult to a great artist.
Drop the MUSAK - the paintings are what this video is about .I am sure that Sargent would have hated this musak also .
¡Que maravilla este video! poder ver las dimensiones reales que tienen! muchas gracias!
What a waste...talking head and scraps of paintings.
Not a single full painting shown here. Just scraps of his paintings.
Dude was just a painting machine. 🔥
Thanks a lot from Russia Nick
I adore Sargent’s watercolors, especially the way he used them to play with light and shadow. You can really see the confidence of a master artist. If I could paint half so well I would be very happy
4:41 really? I've never heard that said on the news or anywhere I've ever roamed.
He only gave watercolor paintings to his closest friends, he didn't do commissions, that's what she's trying to say
what a disaster.
Thanks…
Brilliant!
