Completely agree, That is sadly such a horrible business model that happens so often through so many different platforms, not just music, But also Games, and stuff like phones. Game companies will find a game formula that sticks for them, and make a game exactly the same as the one they made last year. some try to change, but, it's usually broken on launch due to it being a yearly push. The phones, just apple as a company, making you buy a new one instead of repairing something that entirely works alright, just one connector isn't in properly. how can they get away with that? I literally just woke up passed out in bed and saw you uploaded, watched this and wrote this out. Sorry if me writing this is extending the rant, But I don't know. just felt like writing this. Hopefully a better loopstation is got soon, that just sounds like 700 dollars wasted >.
@@billrobbins2238 no... like wobbles said its trying to put the sample on am imaginary grid. That grid represents bring on timing. If the machine doesn't think he's in timing. It's stretching and cutting and splicing the sample to put it on the grid it thinks it belongs on.
Well, I did just buy a used Boss 505 Mk1 because of you and a few other peeps that use them! I'm guess I'm glad I bought that instead of the newer one! Love your stuff man, you are very talented and inspiring! Keep it up
The latest updates fixed a lot of issues. The RC505 mk2 is now the standard In loop station battles. More loopers are turning to it for the upgraded sample rate, added effects, track bounce and other features.
Bought the Mk1 while it was available, hearing about all the complaints about the Mk11, it is my first loop station and is fairly easy to use and am pleased with it and was less expensive. Extremely disappointing to buy something new and not work properly. Big mistake on Boss’s end.
Is there something people would recommend besides this unit? Are people still recommending against this in November of 2023? There has to be a way to stop the quantizing.

Hi, about I year ago you made this video about the rc 505 mk2 forcing you into some grid an messing up what you played. Was this fixed with the 2.0 firmware update or is this problem still there?
I don’t fully agree with this. I’ve played about 35 live shows with this looper and it was definitely tough at first but if you set all the tracks to single instead of multi it works pretty well, and you can make the fx buttons undo buttons instead, simplifying everything.
Just listening to this talk about his equipment, proves he's almost, more knowledgeable than anyone on the web about the MK gear.. boss needed to listen to this man
Hey, I understand what you are saying. But, could you do a comparison of mk1 versus mk2? Like the same attempt done on each one? I dont have a mk1 or mk2, deciding which is best, but theres alot of stuff that is confusing me.. I think mk1 is more ideal, but there's one feature where I can merge sounds together, continously. However watching this, makes me feel like I need a free looper. Then maybe wait a few years for the mk2. Or never :/

I have the RC-600 which supposedly has the same software, but I haven't had any trigger delays or inability to loop freely. Boss / Roland are known for taking too long to fix these types of problems, but hopefully they get to it ASAP. Congrats on not being crazy :P

Ah so good, thanks for sharing these frustrations. I was looking to get one to get away from using ableton for more free form ideas, but ironically looks like that’s prob best tool for me. I’ve now learnt that ableton loopers can actually set the clock based on my timings so got the best of both worlds and just need to figure out a better midi controller.

I read the manual and it seems to indicate that the tempo is decided before the first loop. Surely this is not true. The foundation of the MK1 was the ability to set tempo via first loop
I'm halfway through the video, I still don't understand the problem you're trying to describe. Are you saying that each of the channels has to each have the same amount of measures? In other words, no channel can have a different type of loop length?
Ive been getting some electrical hissing in the background of my mk2 , anyone know a fix or has the same problem? Using shuresm7b and phantom power is on
Thanks for the video. I am looping for years on a Kaoss pad 3, and got the MK II a month ago, very difficult to loop. Now I see you have the same problem, and not just you. For me the biggest issue is the delay in the trigger, I press the loop button to start recording, and have to wait half a second, it should start instantly. I tried fixing this multple ways, still getting nowhere. Do you think they will be able to fix this with some kind of an update ? Thanks again for the video !
I'm totally in the same situation (bought Akai Miniplay as well) and wanna find a solution. Now I've routed all trought KP3+ to RC again and out, so I can make longer loops with KP first (found easier to have longer loops in RC to match beginning of rec). Olso found out, that if you stop all tracks in RC and start again, the KP will go out of sync - so gotta use faders instead.

Great video. Can I please ask you a question? I have a RC500 and after I hit STOP, it does not stop for about 5 seconds and this throws me off. Drums keep going. I find this even more problematic on longer loops say, over 10 seconds. I have about 10 presets saved. Is it a buffer/memory issue? I am using a non-Boss 300ma power supply. Otherwise it works. On short loops it STOPS immediately. Should I update the Firmware? Otherwise it is a great pedal, stereo and 32 bit quality. Thanks!
This has aged well. Mine is going away for repair today. Again. 2 years in and it's still a mess. Roland have not release a firmware update since Aug 2022 - It's now Sep 2023. Did they just abandon the MK2 completely? C'mon Roland...get your finger out...
Hi, I'll update you once again and I hope to be of help to everyone after months of testing. The latest upgrade has finally come out and can be downloaded from the Roland boss page. You have to download it, save it in the loop station and then do a factory reset. Unfortunately I can then reset all the parameters a bit, which is better if you like them, but it seems very stable and now all the errors seem to have disappeared. Especially since I use it by always launching the times on all the tracks. Holding down stop Play so as to give the same Clock. to all of them and by putting it under intense strain I have seen that for now it is holding up very well theoretically as it should have been in the beginning. If you have any problems I am available for a discussion

Thx. it saved me to keep my old one and i went even to loopy pro with ipad instead of buying an mk2 ... ;) now that combo MK1 + Loopy pro is a blast :). + with use of an Audio4c Interface it makes them work hand in hand .
Thanks! You saved me a major headache. Unfortunately I sold my Mk 1, but I did get a Deluge groove box which has fantastic live looping. Now I just need to learn how to use it and stop dreaming of a simpler world with the 505 mk11. (I have many live instruments and sing, all in an ambient, non tempo / click sync way.)
honestly you and a few others are the reason i got a mk1 (unfortunately was in financial trouble and had to sell it) even know i didnt know what i was doing i still enjoyed it kinda sucks to hear that the mk2 is shit
I have a RC505 mk1 and was thinking of upgrading (though keeping the Mk1). I use mine with piano and synths and I could feel the quality of the Mk1 wasn't quite there though still ok. Are the issues of the Mk2 still relevant in 2023?

agreed its terrible, have you had the issue of it syncing with your midi ports ? mine has and is stuck in logic can't undo any advice, I've tried re-set, I restored my whole Mac due to effecting multiple issues, so making my complaint, now its only effecting my logic. help? no sound output through my logic

I kinda get what you are saying, I have both a 505 and a mk 2 and they are definitely quite different in terms of workflow. I think it's a "are you already familiar with the 505" kind of issue. If the first looper you get is a mk 2, you will prob be fine, it's when you have to change a workflow you already have established that problems arise. I disagree with you saying don't but it, I would say "don't buy it if you expect it to be the original 505, just better". I'm recording guitar and bass and also beatboxing and it is sooooooooo much better than the 505 for my purpose but I totally get how someone like you, or brez, or Saro would hate it
I am an instrument loopstation artist that focuses improv, the rudimentary things that make a loopstation a loopstation is broken on the mkii. Requiring people to adhere to a click and be completely and mindlessly within what the loopstation wants you to be in terms of pocket or auto quantization.

USB Audio works instantly for me on MK2 (using MBP & ableton). My MK1 made me restart each time for ableton to see it. Might be an issue with your computer. I agree with your other issues though, just FYI.

Thanks! You saved me a major headache. Unfortunately I sold my Mk 1, but I did get a Deluge groove box which has fantastic live looping. Now I just need to learn how to use it and stop dreaming of a simpler world with the 505 mk11. (I have many live instruments and sing, all in an ambient, non tempo / click sync way.)
What do you recommend for live looping since the MK 2 was my first choice? I play mostly Handpan and Udu, percussion

honestly you and a few others are the reason i got a mk1 (unfortunately was in financial trouble and had to sell it) even know i didnt know what i was doing i still enjoyed it kinda sucks to hear that the mk2 is shit
I have a RC505 mk1 and was thinking of upgrading (though keeping the Mk1). I use mine with piano and synths and I could feel the quality of the Mk1 wasn't quite there though still ok. Are the issues of the Mk2 still relevant in 2023?
thanks for sharing ur experience. shame it just records quantised and its not possible to record unquantised following the own groove. being a software issue, would it be available as a firmware update meanwhile to have this bug fixed?
agreed its terrible, have you had the issue of it syncing with your midi ports ? mine has and is stuck in logic can't undo any advice, I've tried re-set, I restored my whole Mac due to effecting multiple issues, so making my complaint, now its only effecting my logic. help? no sound output through my logic
i was looking into this looper because of your videos and now im stuck lol ableton has been throwing me off with the same problem as that mk2 and thought this would fix it ...now im stuck on what should i get.. what would you recommend?
Hey I’ve just bought the MK2 and I’ve noticed the timing issues straight away. This video is now a year old. Have they fixed the software now?? I’m about to do an update.

I read the manual and it seems to indicate that the tempo is decided before the first loop. Surely this is not true. The foundation of the MK1 was the ability to set tempo via first loop

@@happyzach yes, I did the update and it does seem to have fixed these issues.
@@MikaelLewisify BreZ also recently made a video speaking about which things they already fixed. Also as far as I know of watching videos about the 505 literally 24/7, there seems to be an option for the problem that Wobbles mentioned in the video. It will then turn off the auto-sync

I kinda get what you are saying, I have both a 505 and a mk 2 and they are definitely quite different in terms of workflow. I think it's a "are you already familiar with the 505" kind of issue. If the first looper you get is a mk 2, you will prob be fine, it's when you have to change a workflow you already have established that problems arise.
I disagree with you saying don't but it, I would say "don't buy it if you expect it to be the original 505, just better". I'm recording guitar and bass and also beatboxing and it is sooooooooo much better than the 505 for my purpose but I totally get how someone like you, or brez, or Saro would hate it
I am an instrument loopstation artist that focuses improv, the rudimentary things that make a loopstation a loopstation is broken on the mkii. Requiring people to adhere to a click and be completely and mindlessly within what the loopstation wants you to be in terms of pocket or auto quantization.
@@MrWobbles not being combative here btw, love ur stuff and you! But I am curious, when would you not want to to loop with a click? I guess I haven't come across the same issues you have.
So do you mean you have a loop 2 bars long and another 3 bars, and they quantize weird? Basically, do you have a use case I can try to replicate cause I'm super curious
@@thepoofster2251 all of my sets are off internal rhythm, dont use a click, i think mkii is forced click usage at this point

USB Audio works instantly for me on MK2 (using MBP & ableton). My MK1 made me restart each time for ableton to see it.
Might be an issue with your computer. I agree with your other issues though, just FYI.
