@@EmilyMcVicker weird question: would you give online classes on the use of RC 505 MKII? I wanted to buy the MKI as i am a musician myself and just looking to start looping, and MKI seems easier to use, but it is discontinued and i am scared on spending all my hard-won budget (all of it!) on a used item that can come with a fabric problem or etc.! Emily. I’m a looping musician, myself. I just stumbled upon your channel and I’m really digging it. Your energy and excitement is infectious! Keep up the great work!
Hi everyone, I know it’s been a while since this video was uploaded, but I have some questions that I hope someone here can help with. Here’s my dilemma: I was first looking into the TC Helicon Acoustic for its great automatic and interesting voice enhancement features, but it doesn’t have the real looping capabilities I’m after. On the other hand, the Boss RC-505 that I am also looking into as presented here has amazing looping functions but if I understood it correctly not quite match the voice quality and features of the TC Acoustic. So, here are my questions: 1. Is there today in mid-2024 a single device that combines the looping features of the Boss RC-505 with the voice quality enhancements of the TC Acoustic? 2. Alternatively, is there a cost-effective way to add looping to the TC Acoustic? 3. Or, is there a budget-friendly device that can enhance the vocal quality of the Boss RC-505 to match the TC Acoustic’s capabilities without breaking a budget? I also looked at the TC Helicon VoiceLive 3 Extreme, but it doesn’t quite fit my needs since I don’t know how to play the electric guitar to begin with and there is something about its' build I did not like, it feels like it is more about faking the sound of your voice than creating clarity, but I might be wrong... I prefer focusing on acoustic instruments and clean vocals. I mainly use my voice, I am an actor learning to sing, and an old drummer... I will add in wooden flutes, harmonica, drums, djembes, and occasionally piano-guitars I cannot play... I’m hoping to find a setup that lets me loop effectively while keeping my voice sounding as smooth and natural as I can see people manage to do with the TC helicon Acoustic and adding in the flute and djembe at certain times in the loops. When I asked about the boss rc 505 mkll people said, is just a general feature to enhance the sound but not specific for vocals at all like the TC acoustic.. so this is why I like to ask about all this... Thanks for taking the time to read this. Any suggestions or creative ideas would be greatly appreciated! Best, Chris
These are all great questions! And I would love to answer them, but so many of them will be subjective to the individual performer and their needs. I personally love the sound quality and work ability ofthe boss pedals. I prefer to do mixing outside of the pedals, with a combination of DI boxes, and mic splitter. This is why I love chatting to other loopers and seeing different rigs, everybody loves to build their set up differently! I’d love to hear what you decide!
@@EmilyMcVicker ok,, thanks! so you do all voice EQ etc, processing on the go while you start each new song instead of having these things automated by the voice processor the way TC helicon lets people set their things up so the device reads what one is doing or what environment one is in.. is what TC helicon says it does, reads the acoustics of a room and have automated EQ and voice processing. But maybe with Boss you can achieve a similar sound quality, but it must be done while singing or playing for each new song if I understood it correctly, there are no settings that have presets for different types of genres, songs or room acoustics in the Boss? maybe when one is more working with changing things in the middle of songs, this is a better setup, and if one sings covers like Beatles, Adele, or Ed Sheeran there is a help to have permade settings that fit their songs... I am not sure... but is something tC helicon mentioned and also the salespeople at Thomann.de in Germany and said that Boss is only a Loop station but not really a high-quality voice processor, and then I went to RUclips to see how people use these and it looks great to me what you and others are doing with the Boss RC 505 mkll , but of course I do not see how you do the voice processing of EQ, delay, reverb and so on on the spot while looking at video on youtube, ... is why I also wonder if the mixer you mentioned matters perhaps more than if one chooses the Boss RC 505 mkll vs if one uses something like the TC helicon products that arrange preset settings for all this, maybe with Boss one must manually and constantly change all settings while singing or playing? is that perhaps the main difference and not the exact sound quality, but rather the sound control difference of each? thanks for getting back! Hey! I do a bunch of live looping breakdowns and have a playlist that might be right up your alley. If I could boil it down, it is focus on the rhythm, and focus on the chorus. It’s OK to play the verses live on your instrument too. You don’t have to loop everything. Prioritize 👍
Emily I'm blown away. This was exactly the kind of demo I've been looking for. I'm a lifelong beatboxer and was dreaming of some gear like this, and you've demonstrated this product so well and with that gorgeous voice of yours. I may actually be able to record some stuff after beatboxing to the walls and the cat for years, wishing I knew other beatboxers or a way to easily beatbox with myself but without the hassle of a DAW. Thank you!
Great video that really helps a lot for a looping learner like myself. So now tell me how to sing like you! Wow! I would just end up looping my crappy voice. 🙂
Nice tutorial, Thank you. I want to use this RC-505 with the guitar… But wait ... I'm thinking ... It can't work because I need my 2 hands to play my guitar so .. How can I start the LOOPER ?? ( as well, It don't seem convenient to use foots with this device) Have you an idea about that ?
Totally! I ran into the same problem with it. So I started using one foot switch to do all starts/stops. And I have a little system that utilizes the volume sliders. The system has been working well for me! A bit of a learning curve to get it down. Hope this helps! ruclips.net/user/shortsp2pCH7BOUIA?si=4vsDvM3oZPKVCYbQ
Dear Emily ! Such a great performance thank you for being a beautiful star in your creation! , and i have a question , when I use my boss rc505 mk2 , I set the first track to 4 bar measure but when I hit the record button, it shows that as if im using a free measure loop, i tried to change it but its not applying, do you have any idea about how I can fix this ! Thanks !
Hey! Great question. I’m curious what it looks like when you’re building your first loop. Can you do a little video and send to me on IG? Are you using the built in rhythms? My guess is if you’re not, then the machine is recalibrating to however you play in ur first loop. But if you are playing to the clock, I’m not sure. So if you could show me, that’d be awesome!
Really enjoy You videos:) Cant figure out the diffrents between rc 505 and 600. Im leaning towards rc 600 Since Im a piano and guitar player - Then i have my Hands free. But in Which situations are the 505 better ? Again - realy enjoy your work. Keep it up😊 Casper, Denmark
The 505 is easier to get to some of the more intricate settings. But for me, it’s still more practical in a gig to use the 600 because like you said, keeps ur hands free to play.
awesome job! How did you get the loop to give you so much time to sing a whole chorus.. mine just decides when to end and start looping.. im new to this to maybe theres some programming im unaware of ? Thanks x
Well the loops doesn’t ‘decide’. You can pick how long each track the loops is. You can preset it in the settings, or (and this is what I do) I have all the tracks set to ‘free’ and i can decide on the fly how long each one is. I just let it go as long as I want before I hit the overdub button and it loops back. What looper are you working with?
@@EmilyMcVicker I'm working the the boss r505. usually it automatically sets the limit for the loop when I sing for longer than usual which is why I ask.. I didn't know I could set my own time. Are you able to tell me how to set them to free? Thanks so much for your help x
Like to build it on the looper? Or to design the arrangement? I worked on this one for this video cuz I wanted the BGVs to be really intentional so I did a bit of practicing how I wanted the voices to be arranged. But sometimes i improvise arrangements so those don’t take as long :)
Fantastic. Do you know the story behind this song? Who wrote the song, and who was killing her softly? It's pretty interesting. You have a beautiful voice. I've just started using my first looper, the RC-600. Your videos are a wonderful learning resource. Thank you!!!
Help ..I am new to loop station and some reasons I am unable to set measure …like if I set 2 measure loop …for shakers on one track …it doesn’t stop and continue recording…..it’s suppose to start loop after 2 bar. Can some help me …….
Can you please make a Tutorial on how you compile everything using your Boss RC-505mk2 with your MIDI keyboard? I don't know what MIDI keyboard you're using but I have the Arturia MkII 88 keys MIDI keyboard & I don't know how to loop other than go buy this Boss RC-505mk2 & connect it to my MIDI keyboard?
Hmm I’m not quite sure what you’re struggling with. My keyboard has midi, but in this video I’m using it’s onboard sounds. So I send the sound through the audio outputs into the looper. Is that what you’re asking?
Hi Emily, i thought this looper is a perfect machine for keyboard players like us and i am keen to get one for myself. I haven’t used loopers ever since because i’m used to use drum machines. Just a thought and my curiosity, the way i look at it, Creating all these parts together will take a while to complete before the actual song starts.
That is a typical downfall of loopers. The trick is to make the builds quick and engaging. Or some arrangements you can build as you go (like I tried to do in this video). Sometimes the builds can be entertaining, but best to keep them simple enough to be all that you need so they don’t take forever. That’s my. 2 cents.
You said Lauren Hill is a genius, I agree! But how the hell were you able to breakdown all the small parts of the song? Any tips? Your work is amazing btw 👏👏👏
I have a studio tour in a different video. I have an older version and an updated version this year. If you have specific questions that I haven’t answered yet, lemme know!

I may actually be able to record some stuff after beatboxing to the walls and the cat for years, wishing I knew other beatboxers or a way to easily beatbox with myself but without the hassle of a DAW. Thank you!
Oh amazing! So glad to hear that! This might be a good piece of gear for you 👍
A master class, wow!
Glad you like! This was a fun one to learn and make 🫶🫶🫶
simply brilliant. 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Wow awesome video thanx for sharing your amazing style...
Aww thanks friend! Glad u dig! 🤘❤️
Great video that really helps a lot for a looping learner like myself. So now tell me how to sing like you! Wow! I would just end up looping my crappy voice. 🙂
Well thank you 😅 but there are all kinds of voices out there. Keep playing!
You are so good! That was awesome!
Aww thank you friend!! I need to do more videos w the 505! Is that what you use?
Mega!!..and very nice vocal
Many thanks!!
bloody hell that was good, like the cat
Pahaha meow! 🫶😻🫶
Absolutely beautiful.
Thank you friend!
Nice tutorial, Thank you.
I want to use this RC-505 with the guitar… But wait ... I'm thinking ... It can't work because I need my 2 hands to play my guitar so .. How can I start the LOOPER ?? ( as well, It don't seem convenient to use foots with this device)
Have you an idea about that ?
Totally! I ran into the same problem with it. So I started using one foot switch to do all starts/stops. And I have a little system that utilizes the volume sliders. The system has been working well for me! A bit of a learning curve to get it down. Hope this helps!

@@EmilyMcVicker Thanks you very much. It helps a lot 😄
Best song yet your great
Oh thanks! It’s an amazing arrangement on the record. Love it
Really enjoy You videos:) Cant figure out the diffrents between rc 505 and 600.
Im leaning towards rc 600 Since Im a piano and guitar player - Then i have my Hands free.
But in Which situations are the 505 better ?
Again - realy enjoy your work. Keep it up😊
Casper, Denmark
The 505 is easier to get to some of the more intricate settings. But for me, it’s still more practical in a gig to use the 600 because like you said, keeps ur hands free to play.
Sometimes I like to bring the 505 if I’m just singing with others who can carry the lions share of the instrument playing 👍
awesome job!
I love it!
Emily, how long does it take you to construct such a song from start to finish?
Like to build it on the looper? Or to design the arrangement?
I worked on this one for this video cuz I wanted the BGVs to be really intentional so I did a bit of practicing how I wanted the voices to be arranged. But sometimes i improvise arrangements so those don’t take as long :)
@@EmilyMcVicker very inspiring... I'm just starting with the looper.
Perhaps something by Burt Bacharach, now that we have sadly lost him; A little prayer, maybe? (Good job on demonstrating the RC-600 - useful!)
Oh thanks! I’ll check out that song
Despite the looping skills, your voice is amazing 👌 by the way what headset headphones do you use?
Aren’t you sweet 🥰 they are Shure 425 in ear monitors 🤘😆
Thank you lil tiger .. I learned alot from you & thank you 🙏
Fantastic. Do you know the story behind this song? Who wrote the song, and who was killing her softly? It's pretty interesting.
You have a beautiful voice. I've just started using my first looper, the RC-600. Your videos are a wonderful learning resource.
Thank you!!!
Was Roberta Flack the writer?? I would love to know the back story!!

Great instrument
Thank you!
Awesome Emily! 💪
Yoooo!!!! This MoFo is pretty damn good
Thanks friend!
Help ..I am new to loop station and some reasons I am unable to set measure …like if I set 2 measure loop …for shakers on one track …it doesn’t stop and continue recording…..it’s suppose to start loop after 2 bar. Can some help me …….
Are you tapping the record button again to overdub? You can set to record>dub>play or rec>play>dub. It’s dealers choice!
That’s my. 2 cents.
Hello, what effects do you use for sing?
I try but a don't know how do it
The only effects I’m using in this video is reverb 👍
What should the measures all be set to? Auto? Or free? We’re trying this but when we hit all play, it starts in the middle of the chorus.
Currently, mine are all set to Free. If you are building the song, the same as me, it should work. What happens if you switch to auto?
You said Lauren Hill is a genius, I agree! But how the hell were you able to breakdown all the small parts of the song? Any tips? Your work is amazing btw 👏👏👏
Thanks for your kind words! What small parts of the song are you referring to?
Singing really good, I have the rc5, but I'd love to upgrade to the rc 600 or rc 505mkii
Oh! Nice! What’s ur main instrument? Have u been using looper mostly for practice or also for performance?
Awesome. love it. ❤️
Thank you! 😊
can you do a video of how you set up the loop station as well as how you connect it to the daw?
I have a studio tour in a different video. I have an older version and an updated version this year. If you have specific questions that I haven’t answered yet, lemme know!
@@EmilyMcVicker ok thank you I'll check those out!
muy chulo! Suena súper limpia la mezcla, cómo lo haces??'
Thank you! I just posted a new tour of my home studio if you wanna check it out. It’s a process building my studio!
Congratulazioni 👌👌👌
How do you just go to the next track and have the other stop?
It will only record to one track at a time so by starting the next track loop, it automatically stops recording on the previous one 👍
did they fix that rec issue that the mk2 had that the mk1 didnt, that issue u mentioned in your first review of it
I mentioned an issue with the rec? I’m not sure what you’re referring to
