  • Here I have a fine English 14 gauge muzzleloading shotgun by Westly Richards. Westly Richards is one of the finest gunmakers in history. Watch as I take this gun out of retirement and prepare to take it back into the field for a season of grouse and woodcock hunting.

Nice gun to say the least! I have a vintage William More 12 gauge with which I have done quite a lot of patterning or paper punching. I use 1 Fg black powder and more shot than powder. My best patterning load is.....70 grains of 1Fg.....two or three cards....1-1/8 ounce copper clad 7-1/2 hot.....over shot card....and then a fiber wad soaked thoroughly with olive oil or another vegetable oil.....called the Aky Chief loading recipe. For very good information on loading muzzle loading shotgun google V M Starr. Every gun is different....have fun with that 14 bore and stay safe....and Merry Christmas!!!
