Never use grease in my cap and balls. Tight fitting ball seals the chamber from chainfires. Hot grease ends up everywhere you dont want it including inside chambers on occasion and causes excess fouling in barrelmuch sooner than with out it making it a real mess and constant cleaning to continue your range time

I used FFg powder when shooting mine - which has not happened since the late '70s; do believe 60 gr is the "sweet spot" for a black powder load in this rifle. Recently "dug it out" of the attic and gathered all the accessories - plan on shooting it again soon but need to increase the inventory of "minnys" first.

Samuel Colt specifically stated that you didnt need to grease the cylinder. The proper way to load is to use a slightly larger ball so that a ring of lead is cut from the ball. It will make a perfect seal and no messy grease is required.
