Out Of Nowhere is an essential standard which every jazz student should have in their ear and under their fingers. Let's discuss...
In this analysis video we will discuss key signatures, time signatures and structure before moving on to a full harmonic analysis of this jazz standard by Green/Heyman. We discuss major, harmonic minor and natural minor scales as well as talking about comping and voicing ideas informed by the melody. Finally I share some improvisation tips as we throw the scales we have already discussed straight out the window!! Good luck

6:49: Db over E stems from the diminished scale. You can use that scale over the E7b9.
You certainly can 👍 cheers
what a tune, here are those lyrics
You came to me from out of nowhere
You took my heart and found it free
Wonderful dreams, wonderful schemes from nowhere
Made every hour sweet as a flower for me
If you should go back to your nowhere
Leaving me with a memory
I`ll always wait for your return out of nowhere
Hoping you`ll bring your love to me
You're a hero, cheers for taking the time to do that!!
P.S. lovely lyrics
I see the ii V in Ab as just a chromatic ii V
Absolutely, and how do you play over it?
Lydian b7 scale starting on the dominant-7th chord's fifth degree.@@CharlesHarrisonMusicTuition
Thanks for providing the source material.
I had this tune on my mind since doing this video and found a different version in I believe the 4th edition which does include the b9 on that E7 chord. Unsure whether the 6th edition is a typo (of which there are many others) or a deliberate amendment... Haven't seen any videos from you this week, all well? Cheers
@@sixstringstudies5125 We'll leave that one there 😂
@@CharlesHarrisonMusicTuition If you are doing things that are respectful and honouring the great man Mr Barry Harris I cannot see why you would remove your channel. Your take seems like it would be clearly explained. I enjoyed your analysis. Huge admirer of Charlie Parker's renditions!
Please drop out Joe.
Apologies, I have no idea what this means? Clarification would be appreciated. Cheers 👍
