The folks that say they don't like catfish have never eaten proper cooked fresh catfish. You could tell them it was halibut and they'd say it was delicious. Good job camping. What a trip. 2 mega beasts and great weather.
Just caught a 43” sturgeon bank fishing yesterday on Lake Roosevelt. Your videos persuaded me to try it from the shore after getting one from the boat last year up in Kettle Falls. Nothing like it. I’m hooked!
Congratulations on landing that BIG Mama Sturgeon, it was Awesome !!! Thanks to Josh for Protecting the U.S.A. !! and as always a delicious catch and cook. Sorry to hear that your ready for hunting season to begin, it was not much of a fishing season this summer, so hope you can find time to do some more fishing in between 😍🎣🌟👍
I was laughing during that part of the video. I live in the south east and blackberries are EVERYWHERE. Never occurred to me they would be an oddity somewhere else.
Lost a rod last week on the snake river cat fishing. Dove in for it but what ever had it was stronger than me. Replaced it with a sturgeon rod yesterday. Time to land a sturgeon. Your videos have been extremely helpful!
That’s all the Montreal Steak seasoning you use? I put 10 times that on my steak, maybe 5x on pork, oil first and let it sit for an hr. I use a grill so much of it gets knocked off.
I fished the snake River a lot as a kid when I visited my family in Boise Idaho we always did a night fishing trip and we would catch like 50 plus cats some big ones like yours! We would also hear the sturgeon jumping and I swear they sound like people jumping into the river it’s almost an Erie feeling knowing there is fish bigger then you lurking that River. What a blast we used to have! Great video tight lines! 👍
Just a quick question my friend.... why do you guys use forearm while fishing? We fish for Ulua and would never do that due to slippage and losing the rod.
I've never fished for Ulua but as far as I can tell, Ulua are very active when fighting. This definitely requires a much more constant grip on your rod. Sturgeon fight a lot more docile which don't require you to grip your rod all the time. Different techniques for different fish.
@@WitkowskisFishingSickness Good to know. Glad I wouldn't have died if I decided to eat them lol. I've seen them here and there but never really thought anything of them. I'll have to think of doing something with them next time. Thanks for sharing your knowledge with me.
Great video man! Grew up shore fishing with bait for many specie. I think it might a must do to get a big sturgeon from shore now. Tight lines from nw mt..
Catfish are by far my all time favorite eating fish! Love em! Hell, I would be in pure heaven being in place where it's no rules nor regs when it comes to limits on Cats!
Dylan i grew up fishing them on the South Saskatchewan!! except we could fish at night. bonfire, beer, glowsticks and bells for the rod and a good time haha. Our favorite spot required giving the Hutterites a bottle of whiskey for access to that particular whole.
awesome video! enjoying the shore based sturgeon fishing! so cool after you landed that 1st fish the 2nd fish takes off and jumps. detangling the reel on the spot is a pain.
I was planning to head to the snake river for some sturgeon fishing for the first time. I heard you said you have braid for backing..how many yards of mono and how many yards of braid you recommend to be safe...Thanks
Damm doggys that first one was epic big and disnt even release and that second one hit epic dope what a nice start to a welcome back home fishing trip epic dope guys
I've fished whole fish, cut fish, cut bait... they all work. Sturgeon have excellent sense of smell with their barbels. Even on super tiny pieces of bait, we have caught sturgeon.
Yep, you sure can. I change my leader line according to the river structure, but you can absolutely do it however you'd like. Just be aware, some states/area require a certain leader length for it to be legal.
@@SamongOutdoors In the lower Columbia mainstem we just clipped our lead to the slider and half hitched our smelt or other bait to within an inch or so of our McManns clip to swivel. If that makes any sense.
Those spider web covered berries look like they are black berries. If they are they are great eating. Get a little juice on your finger and taste. They should be sweet if they are fat, black and juicy. Have you ever eaten crayfish (crawdads)? I'd be putting a crawdad trap out when you are on the river and boil them up. Really good eating also a great bait for fish.

Seems like you guys need a reel with better drag. It seems like even on max drag the fish is still spooling you guys out. It just makes it harder to fight the fish.
We hardly ever max out on drag when fighting the fish. From my experience, max drags often leads to breaking off or bending hooks and losing fish. There is always a happy medium when it comes to these things. I will max out drags if I know I can overpower the fish I have on, but if it's a 8ft+ sturgeon, there is no way I will overpower it. I'm sure people have success with maxing out drags, but it's not for me.
I think the reason most people in Washington don't like catfish is because aside from maybe the Snake and Columbia most catfish are found in lakes where the water isn't as fresh or clean and they tend to taste like a mouthful of mud. The meat on that catfish looks a lot different than the meat on the catfish I have caught in a lot of Eastern WA lakes and I am sure it tastes a lot better.
I always thought the alligator gar was North America's largest freshwater fish. It was cool to learn that it's the 2nd largest and the white sturgeon holds the title.
I'm really liking the "Did you know?" additions to the videos lately.
Got to love a man that carries fry batter and grease “just in case” 😁👍🏾👍🏾

Bro that sturgeon was a MONSTER! I can't believe you thought he was an itty-bitty at first. Very incredible!
Quality family time catching monsters! Thanks for your service, Josh and congrats on the nice catch! God bless🙏
Uuuù
Love the historical tidbits.
Glad they're entertaining! Thanks for watching, Kenneth!
Bro, those are black berries (raspberry). Pick a bowl worth of berries and add fish sauce with dried pepper flakes. Bomb!!!
Good to know! I'll be prepared next time!
Yep the blackberries are everywhere along the snake
They are delicious, grow everywhere especially along the coast
i like to eat the blackberries with a little red in them for a little sourness with the fish sauce. yummy!
Have it and not need it is better than need it and not have it. One of the best life lessons. Catch and cook, two shows for the price of one.
I clicked instantly lmao. Love the production bro keep it up!!
Josh had a good leave..great vid!

Catching a sturgeon from shore is no easy feat! Good stuff!
@PW - Heading up that way near Kamloops Island here in a couple days, hoping for the same luck - or pike, for that bounty!

dammm drinking some coffee looking a Yang getting worked by a sturgeon funny ass hell
😂
Wish we had sturgeon that big in Tennessee, but we don’t have white sturgeon
Is that by lower granite dam? It doesn't look like little goose
About the berries, yes it’s raspberry. Try eating it when it’s red with grounded dried pepper and fish sauce. I think you will like.
Those are black berries and are very sweet and delicious. Make sure you pick the ones that easily come of the stem because those are less tart. 👍

nice fish. those berries you found are blackberries very delicous. thank you for your service josh. thank you for the great videos samong.

Yeah, sounds like the sturgeon are calling your name!
Another great video. Those were awesome sturgeon.
Btw those berries are Black Berries. They're all over the place in western WA.

Awesome video! Not sure if you are going out tomorrow for opening day of bear but if so good luck.
I will be. Appreciate it!
Take the mud vein out of the filets and the catfish will taste better.
Another great video man! Your trips are on point, always a winner with catch and cook!
I did not see you take out the mud vein or the red part of the white meet. I heard that mud vein was very nasty to eat.
You are right. For some reason, that mud-vein does not have any effect on me but I will remove it next time.
@@SamongOutdoors I don't know... I was just asking. Next time you video, show me where it is and how to cut it out.
