While I agree that we need an episode on Zhukov, arguably the greatest general in Russian history, I don't think it's fair to say Zhukov was the man who won WWII, simply because _every_ man (on the Allied side) won WWII.
Devin Ranaldi Actually US materials won WWII. Zhukov, Khruschev, and even Stalin have admitted that if it were not for American Steel, Trucks, etc from the US Lend-Lease program, then they would have fallen against the Germans.

Kursk is and will always be the most Epic Battle in Human History! Next to the Brutal Siege of Stalingrad. A graveyard of burnt smoldering twisted metal tombstones that once where tanks littering the wheat fields of Kursk bathed in blood, the skies blotted out by toxic fumes and dust, as the screams of airplanes diving from the heavens screaming like falling angels with the howls of rockets drowning out the choirs of the dying, that their moans and groans filled every mile, the endless rattling of machine-guns accompanying the percussionist booms of artillery shells all making ritual noises in unison to an unholy song of death and despair, as if hell rose from the very earth that day. Bone chilling if you can imagine being in the middle of that a nightmare of an epic battle.
+Novusod Over 2 million casualties on both sides of the battlefield in Kursk where sustained, Stalingrad was over a million and a half there. During the Whole of World War 2, the Soviet Union faced off against 80% of the German War Machine and Man Power. While the US, France, and the UK faced 20%, that they purposefully planned to bleed out Soviet Russia of machines and man power as they faced the bulk of the Nazi war machine. Of which the Allies had plans to continue World War 2 once Nazi Germany was defeated, but would go against a demoralized Soviet Union liberating Eastern Europe from Communism and marching on, or using an Atomic Bomb right in Moscow, Leningrad, Minks, Kiev, and Stalingrad. Patton and Churchill were all for continuing the War against Russia, take out two birds with one stone Fascism and Communism, thus Capitalism Triumphs.
+swan bylander would have been a bad idea, Russia's Military Production was booming, they could easily mass produce and defend their homeland until either attacker gives up, then probably counter attack America and Britain. In my mind of the situation, it would have been a hell of its own.
Extra Credits This is just a minor detail, but the German tanks you keep showing when mentioning the Tiger tanks is a Panzer IV. Loved the video though!
+Ray S When they talk about Tigers at 5:25, they do depict an actual Tiger I. The Pz.IV is just a stand-in image for "German tank" elsewhere. A far more interesting thing to point out I would think is that the rear-shot of Pz.IVs they give has a radio bustle, and then another radio bustle is sort of hanging off it :P
Khrushchev was IIRC the senior politruk at Kharkov in 1942, Stalingrad, Kursk and Kiev in 1943. The generals he worked with seem to have liked him, overall. Brezhnev was *not* at Stalingrad; at that time, he was with the Transcaucasus Front on the Turkish border. Brezhnev was assigned in 1943 to the 1st Ukrainian Front, under Khrushchev, and there became his protegé.
I love the phrasing in episodes like these. It's far too easy to demonize one side making them the bad guy, especially when they're Germans during ww2. I applaud extra credit for not stooping to such a thing and showing both sides as brave and deserving of respect. I didnt even catch any negative "loaded words", as I call them, words meant to elicit a certain emotion or way of feeling about someone, though not explicitly saying they are bad. I cant stress how much I appreciate the neutrality of the EC team.
Exactly my point. People seem to forget that. people act as though every german knew about the terrible, terrible things that were done to "certain people"
Sun_skimmer 89 oh i see. no sorry im just interested in the historical period, same as feudal japan and S.P.Q.R. i have played war thunder not the tanks side of it though
its funny how people have to find a cause for someone knowing something rather then the reality that someone has to know this shit in the firstplace to make those games, not the other way around
Extra Credits Team! Dan, James, I would highly appreciate some serious comment on the significance of the swastika as a simbol so powerful that even you, honest educators of wonderful commentary and truth about the bad stuff, can't just put in the real coat of arms for the nazi war machine. I agree it doesn't deserve to be shown, it is that powerful and frightening still, and those who suffered greatly under those banners still live and never need be shown those images again. That's real, and it's hard to quantify the impact a single image can make on the scars of our earths past. I believe you are capable of some very insightful thought and research on the subject of symbolism in our history. I have been a long-long-time viewer, and I have appreciated every bit of your hard work and every one of your series. The whole EC Crew is amazing! Thanks!
+Zing Freelancer yeah, considering the amount of people and money behind this, quite disheartening. Especially since it is done with "World of Tanks Money".
+Alton Bishop Also say T-34 and show T-34-85. They might have similar names but the former was 1941 design with a 76mm cannon that struggled to penetrate sides of Tigers. While the later had the 85mm cannon that was fully capable to penetrate TIgers from the front and fight Panthers on equal terms.
Adrian Grindbakken Yes, but one is unable to defeat Tigers and Panthers which is a key thing during the battle of Kursk, while the other doesn't have the same problem.
Military History It's really not any more OK to use that version now than it was in 41. Sure, the introduction date is closer, but Soviets will REALLY need those tanks in this fight. In fact this is the main operationa introduction of Soviets to the "next gen" german tanks the Panther and the Tiger. And they will scrap most of the other projects demanding new chasis and redirect all their efforts on mounting 85mm onto the T-34.
+Captain Inc So you want a game, with some pretty bad bugs, and a strong russian bios? Don't get me wrong, both games are ok, and i play them both, but they are far from the best. Or even great games. They are good because they are some of the few taceling this target audience.
+Aquila I don't mind that a game is biased, as long as it's not insidious in having those biases. If I'm being misled into believing the account is impartial, then it's a bad thing. But they never deny that they're biased, so there's no problem.
Captain Inc Yeah sure, but in this case the balance should be right. So a bunch of worse russian tanks vs few better german tanks. At least during the battle of kurks and other more mid - late war battles.
+Kai Gore idk how to spell it, shnaps? Yeah, those are stronger than Vodka, and you usually drink 5 glasses, if you drink more you have a chance to die, Hitler took that chance and thought he was Napoleon :|

The end of an era is here
Its time to attack!
Into the motherland the German army march
Comrades stand side by side to stop the Nazi charge
Panzers on Russian soil a thunder in the east
One million men at war
Soviet wrath unleashed!
You say Wehrmacht weird.
I've been waiting for this though, thank you guys
"Hey guys, remember Verdun, in the last war? Let's do that again!"
2:32 Gonna be honest, the Ferdinand was having a lot of issues *before* the fighting became close quarters.
oh boy now I want to play CoH2 again
+PopTartNeko don''t. Men of War is the way to go.
Holy cow perfect timing! Only 16 minutes since this went up.
So wait, does Stalin always wear his hat to bed?
+Jacob Kuschel He didn't want folks to see his bald spot.
>:(
@@jimsidewinder8622 lmao
I love these Kursk episodes.
Thank you wargaming for the subtitles!
I mush ask, can James juggel knives?
I love Extra Credits' story telling, it makes me feel excited to know what'll happen next even though I basically know the outcome.
for the record 2:55 that is pz iv.
really like the little annotation about the panzer IV.
more pls.
JammyD2579 Yeah, I meant the drawn one. Because in another episode about Kursk, they had multiple drawn tanks for the Soviets
Thanks for something nice to watch while sick!
0.o Holy shit Nikita was at kursk
+lokalkakan And Leonid (Brezhnev) was at Stalingrad with NKVD executing any retreating Russian troops, nice bunch?
Khrushchev was IIRC the senior politruk at Kharkov in 1942, Stalingrad, Kursk and Kiev in 1943. The generals he worked with seem to have liked him, overall.
Brezhnev was *not* at Stalingrad; at that time, he was with the Transcaucasus Front on the Turkish border. Brezhnev was assigned in 1943 to the 1st Ukrainian Front, under Khrushchev, and there became his protegé.
Thank you, guys, a lot! We want more and sooner :)
People seem to forget that. people act as though every german knew about the terrible, terrible things that were done to "certain people"
Ionlymadethistoleavecoments ha, it’s funny you think they didn’t, the Whemacht weren’t innocent concerning atrocities and war crimes.
7:24 James likes to live dangerous.
Double extra history in a week? Yes!
At 3:37 why does it say kitchen sink in one of the arrows?
They threw the kitchen sink at them
Because when you try Everything in Engkish you say, that you threw the kitchen Šink at it.
this series have been excellent
The Khrushchev spoiler alert is great, but the birthmark is better.
+Cskye Thanks for noticing!
This is truly very informative and interesting ... And with this kind of animation makes history far more interesting to learn ...
2:53. thats a Panzerkampfwagen IV Ausf. G. maybe J? what you want is the Panzerkampfwagen VI 'Tiger' Ausf. H. good video as always though :)
+eradius Heroes and generals?
***** um not sure what the game has to do with it. just the german tank looks more like a IV than a VI
***** I'm guessing War Thunder
Thanks!
2:52 you are showing a Panzer 4 drawing and calling it a Tiger tank? Tsk tsk tsk.
+Zing Freelancer yeah, considering the amount of people and money behind this, quite disheartening. Especially since it is done with "World of Tanks Money".
+Zing Freelancer Its not the drawing that are importants, its the history lesson.....
In 2:56 did you mean the new panther tanks rushed into service. Tiger was out in production from 1942. Also the picture looks like a panzer IV.
says the new tiger one... show panzer 4.
+Блажо Ђуровић but both still T-34's
Adrian Grindbakken Yes, but one is unable to defeat Tigers and Panthers which is a key thing during the battle of Kursk, while the other doesn't have the same problem.
+Блажо Ђуровић yeah, in this video it is more ok, but they also used the T-34-85 in the prelude 1941 videos.
Nice vid!
Red Orchestra 2 + War Thunder = BEST WAR GAME EVER SOMEONE MAKE THIS!
Yeah, good luck balancing tactical realism with what is almost the most arcade experience in the world (second only to World of Tanks of course).
Benign Gamer I don't see any flaws in this, war isn't suppose to be equally balanced.
Captain Inc
Yeah sure, but in this case the balance should be right. So a bunch of worse russian tanks vs few better german tanks. At least during the battle of kurks and other more mid - late war battles.
2:52 that's not a tiger tank.
You keep saying Wehrmacht (veyr-mahkht) incorrectly. The W is pronounced more like a V. But besides that this was a great episode.
I'm German and just no, we do not pronounce the 'w' in 'Wehrmacht' as a 'v'.
We pronounce it More like "wèr-makt".
btw. the German 'w' does not Sound like a 'v' more like a sort of mix from a 'v' and a 'w'.
Also it's not -makt but -makht (pronounciationwise)
But he pronounces Luftwaffe right
QUAKE III ARENA
These are the best !! I'm pleasantly surprised there so many parts !!
I would rather have milk to steel the soul, preferably with chocolate chip cookies or oreos
Liquor gives you courage man, I felt like I could conquer the world when I practiced shots.
+The Snake Empire so did hitler. i guess he had too many though
+Kai Gore idk how to spell it, shnaps? Yeah, those are stronger than Vodka, and you usually drink 5 glasses, if you drink more you have a chance to die, Hitler took that chance and thought he was Napoleon :|
The Snake Empire
Yeah, man, but milk and cookies, but then again my last meal would a grilled cheese and chocolate milk
i was suppose to study for my bio test but this is too good
liked and subbed im gonna check out more of your vids tomorrow
Into the motherland the German army march
Comrades stand side by side to stop the Nazi charge
Panzers on Russian soil a thunder in the east
One million men at war
Soviet wrath unleashed!
Damn when he said “never had they gotten a real breakthrough” those words could shatter anyone with more then 200 hours in hoi4
I've never heard the pronunciation of 'Wehrmacht' butchered this badly before :D
+jangxx or Manstein.
+jangxx "Hwermackt" :P
Typical pronunciation from English speakers from my experience.
+jangxx Dan does not into German at all. It's kind of cute. :D
+jangxx
You clearly don't watch enough history videos on RUclips. Dan's pronunciation is average for an American.
these really need to be more regular!
talks about tiger tank... shows panzer mark 4 :/
I laughed a little.
+50TNCSA Clearly the work of German Deception!
+50TNCSA funny. i excpected some smartass remark in the comments section as soon as i saw that.
warwatcher91 you sir win the internet for today LOL
DreamVikings forgive me but i had to its its in my nature
Nice I been waiting for this
Zhukov is pronounced “Jukov” (Жуков)
0:37 I remember that guy from the Cuban Missile Crisis episodes
5:40 Macdonalds
finally, battle of kursk part 3 is release!
hype!
Someone woke up Stolen? How fast was he put to death?
+Chad Barrett "Someone woke up Stolen?" Typo or opinion about the man?
Not very fast considering he became Soviet Premier in 1958.
The person that did the art is a genius.
Pfff... not at all, it's full of mistakes and inaccuracy. The drawings are awful. A genius in bad working
