- You can see it right before your eyes folks… Hert has built his own motor. Can we bury the “Hert doesn’t work on cars” hatchet now?? Do we need more quarantines so we can all build more cars? Anyway, this nice clean 2JZ out of an Aristo is a proper swap for his GS300 build, if you ask us. How much power should this thing make?

Japanese motors are Pie. Some euro motors have no key-ways or marks and require specialty tools to get it right.
I tackled changing the water pump on my car and fucking up the timing and I was so sad when it wouldnt turn on. Had to go back in again. Haven’t done any work on my car myself ever since

Wish my subie Was a wrx don’t be afraid. First time I did a timing belt on my mk4 golf I Did it 3 times. First time broke the cam sensor and didn’t know till it was together and got shredded by a pulley. Second time tensioner was too tight and sounded supercharged. Third time was the charm. Haven’t messed one up since.

if you find a friend like that, don't bother them too much. As someone who is usually that friend people go to for advice or walk throughs, it can get exhausting helping everyone while trying to build your own shit. But it is a nice feeling seeing buddies get their hot rods goin and the smiles that said hot rods bring them.

@@hondacota4rt it's by choice. I do shift work, most people work 7-8 hours each day but I do a few shifts a week (NZ)
Shift worker as well.
I can either do 5x8hr shifts or 3x12hr shifts a week. 1 extra day of overtime and I only work 4 days a week and make Hella money

Engineering definition:
Motor - Self starting and converts stored energy to rotational movement.
Engine - converts stored energy into rotational movement.
The main difference is a motor can self start were as an engine cannot.
But call it what you want they all achieve the same end goal turning stored energy into tyre burning rotational movement.

when the transmission is exposed like that, since he cut the bell housing, wont road grime and stuff get into there?
I was wondering the same thing? Is there a reason that the adapter didn't have a thing plate to cover the gaps?
Just fill it with jb weld you will be fine...
The bell housing was cut off but there's a front cover plate on these transmission that keep it a sealed unit. You can see it at 14:10, like that it's still a sealed unit that can hold the transmission fluid in and keep debris out but without a bell housing it can't bolt to an engine anymore. Right after that he says "take off the input shaft cover" you can see the part he takes off, the adapter replaces that part and seals up the transmission again when used. 14:28 is after this cover is removed you can see the mating surface the cover was on that sealed it's internals which is now sealed by the adapter piece itself. After that a bell housing is bolted back on that will match the engine block bolt pattern so you can bolt the Nissan transmission to the Toyota engine. At 8:49 you can see the bell housing he used to bolt to the adapter, probably a Toyota automatic bell housing.
Looks pretty gash, should at least come with some covers to keep the road grime out of the clutch/bell housing...

@@smac919 just because people bastardised the usage of the word doesn't make it correct. By definition a motor is an electronic powered unit and an engine is a combustion powered unit.
That's not true at all a motor is anything which creates torque it could be electric or ice or even a steam turbine they are all motors.
That’s why ford motor company was nameed) a motor company when they built the first car (with a combustion motor)
I'll reserve judgement until it starts. I didn't see any assembly lube go on the cam bearings

Nice Job HERT!! I just bought a 2000 GS300, looking forward to adding some of these same mods; CD009, turbo kit, pulleys, nicer intake manifold, etc. Good stuff man, this gets me excited to see what mine turns into.
FYI, from an engineering perspective, cars have an engine that's started by a motor.
The main difference is movement vs motion:
A "motor" supplies movement, or 'motive power', to a device with moving parts, i.e. electric door locks/windows open and close via an actuator (a motor).
An "engine" is a machine with moving parts that converts power into motion, e.g. combustion, steam, etc.
In simplistic terms: A starter (motor) supplies the initial 'movement' (cranking) to your cars engine, which then converts the power of combustion into 'motion'.
Man, wasn't sure I'd be a fan of that gold but I love it!

Mayne....good looking out on the 1 tooth back trick on the crank trigger. I just did my timing belt and was having issues with it lining up. Oh and serial nine shifter for the win, shifts buttery smooth.

That go pro monopod is damn cool dude hahaha
Torquing actually stretches the bolt slightly. So when you torque it "just a little extra" it actually has the possibility of stretching the bolt beyond it's designed limits. Torque specs are there for a reason and you can actually reduce the clamping force of a bolt because of stretch with a slightly higher torque value. Which could lead to blowing head gaskets and other issues
It's so surreal to watch Hert actually work on his own shit.
