I stumbled on a RUclips video of a farmer helping deliver a calf. The video switched to black and white when he was pulling it out and it showed everything. Might work for you. Just an idea.
Why is it kids (KIDS!) are allowed to play violent video games replete with guns and killing, stealing cars and blood everywhere, but g-d forbid a YTuber shows a sheep giving birth?
Sandi thank you for all you choose to share. I have found so much of your tips also go for goats. We raise goats and had a momma birth 3 babies with 2 litterally born right on top of each other less than 30 seconds apart. The last one wasn't even the tiniest but struggled to get its breath and really wasnt fighting. I went straight into Sandi mode and found a piece of straw in the bedding and started trying to tickle in the nostrils and BOOM baby started shaking its head. My husband looked at me and said "Where did you get that idea from?!" (He was in panic mode) I looked at him, grinning and simply answered Sandi of course! So thank you. Not only do you save your baby lambs, but you also work thru us in saving our babies!
Between watching Cammy and Lizzie's vlogs and yours during lambing, I would say yours is controlled chaos. O am out of breath watching Cammy dive for the Mom's to help them in their lambing difficulties. Thank you all for your hard work. I appreciate what you all do and what you all are willing to share within your lives with me, us.
I love watching Cammy as well. I like to watch the 2 very different ways to raise sheep. I was kind of a mix of the 2 styles. They were outside but were very used to me being around them like Sandi is. The pen area was about 100 feet by 200 feet with 2 smallish barns, a shed, and a small lean-to. I bred to get triplets. I would bottle feed lambs that needed it, but because everyone was together, the lambs did a lot of sealing or, as we called it bumming milk off another ewe. It worked well for me. I do miss having all the lambs around. 🇨🇦
I love how you always tell a mom "good job", even when you've helped. I hope the surviving 5 from the sextuplets, continue to do well. Please name the little one Noodle, and keep him! Definitely a strong will.❤️
Little Noodle has the will to live! Hope it survives. Now it won't have to compete with 5 siblings for nutrients from a single mama, Sandi will feed it as much as it needs💕
6 Lambs! Wow! That ewe is a Fertile Mertle! She didn't even look that bigfor carrying that many lambs. But that could be just my view on the monitor. Seems like they were all backwards. I hope this little one makes it. I love lambing time. You and your farm work sheep and fields is so much fun to watch. I have been disabled since about your age with bad arthritis so I wish I could do half the stuff you do. Instead you give me the privilege of watching.
@wendyrowland7787 I agree. And most humans don't want 2 hands in there, not even 1 hand. Trust me, I've delivered babies. Women get really cranky about then.❤ 😮 😊
Advice - Sandy, with small babies/multiples we feed small amounts and often 2-3hrly feeds. Then we gradually stretch the feed times out. I’m so glad that he is a little fighter. Small babies are prestressed in utero and tend to do better than their bigger siblings. Well done, your instincts are spot on. Just keep an eye on his temp as that may take a few days to regulate. ❤
I still don't understand why U Tube keeps covering where your lambs come out of mom. I have been seeing calves being born on Sonne Farms & on Twin Elms very clearly with no blury cover ups. Even seen calves being assisted out of the mom's by pulling the calves out with chains around their legs. Even saw an entire ceserian done on a cow from start to finish, no part of the operation was blurred out. Saw a 162 lb calf born. UTube you are sexist! Sorry but U must treat female farmers the same as you do male farmers.
In the NICU we have found that if there are no infective issues,it is occasionally beneficial to a smaller, or less stable infant to not be separated from the siblings. Instead keep them together with co-bedding. They will be swaddled together and quite literally will look like they are hugging each other. This will help with temp. stability as well as feesing issues. As well as being soo cute. Caps will help with temp stability also. Girl babies🎉 also tend to be less sick than boys.
