I am still learning as I go through these interesting videos, but it looks like quarter panels are the hardest things to do, well at least for me. I dont know how I would do it. Your video is awesome. Thank you for showing us. You do indeed work of art with these cool cars.
I think you did a good job! Next time you tackle this... Go ahead and coat the flaged area and its mating surface with weld thru primer, to get yourself some rust protection... Or even better rust protection is to panel bond it! Run the panel bond on that flaged area, and clamp it down tight, you can even use sheet metal screws where the clamps dont reach, and it will be less prone to moisture getting in that area and rusting/blistering it out down the road...
Thank, Rick! Very well done-- glad to see the Schuu third arm trick in use...that's a good idea. I imagined the tack welds along the flange to go about like you did it-- good strategy. Thanks again-- looks good
F A N T A S T I C J O B ! Great video and I'm very happy for you, you've done a great job on this car. I first started watching your vids when the car was still in pieces, I thought to myself "this car will never go back together". Boy am I glad that I was wrong, I'm truly impressed with how well it looks. Thank you very much for proving to me that it can be done, you are an inspiration to us all. I can tell you were very happy at the end of the video, as we all are to see you there!
Congratulations Rick! She sure looks good on the video, nice and straight from the front angle you showed. A little filler over that seam and it will disappear. Nice milestong you've hit now. The metal panels are almost all done.
looking great it has been a while since i have had time to watch any yt vids online , if you do fill your marker lights you can use your flange tool / hole punch tool again :) they look really easy to use and really useful
thankx john,it turned out alot straighter than i thought it would, ill be glad when all the metal work is done, the good thing is what is left r smaller projects, thankx for watching,tc
thankx bob, lol, the truth of it is i was thinking the same thing back when i had a pile of pieces,u guys realy helped keep me motivated,i almost gave up quite a few times but now im glad i didnt,i actualy can see a car again, lol, thankx for this great comment and thankx for watching,tc
thankx john,i might end up tubbing it in the end, once i get a outer wheel house for the 74 model and if it needs cut up alot ill tub but im hoping they r the same, the floor pan i put in was a 74 model and it was identicle so i got my fingers crossed, lol, thankx for watching,tc
Great video, and walk-through. That's what I like to see. Make it about the work, and not using up half the screen with our fricken faces for the duration of the video. Keep the videos coming!.
Hey, nice vid, wouldnt that be easier to line up if you replaced that damaged door first? I really like the flanger, especially on those long panels, because the flange adds structural rigidity to the panel.
Awesome lots of help did you ever do the 74 wheel house I'm going through it on my 75 doing the quarter and 74 wheel house just wondering if you have video of it
hi milo, didnt count,im guessing each weld should have the same count, never thought about it that way, going to do some practicing this weekend on some scrap metal, its time i got to get this welding sorted out ,thankx for putting that in my mind
thankx pete, marker lights arent mandatory here, just if they r on the car they have to work, still not sure if ill keep them or not, more welding, uggg, lol, thankx for watching,tc
@TheRickfix Hi,Im new to welding, just bought a mig welder for my van/truck rear wheel arches are rotted off so have to replace. Do you have to fill in all the gaps between those spot welds before you grind down and apply filler? Would just those spot welds on the video be strong enough to hold the rear quarter in place? thanks in advance
Very nice Video Rick! sorry havent been around, lots of work done on the dodge truck lately...... trying to get it finished for the winter...............i'll keep watching as i have time.............trying to get stuff done before the nasty four letter word comes around again.............Mj
thankx, the tape realy helped getting it back in place every time i took it off,i used the porta power to hold the top of the quarter up where it lined up with the trunk lid, could have used 2 of them on this one, lol, thankx for watching,tc
i think im going to have to get a reconstuction permit, the car will have to be checked over by a mechanic and a new vin number will be made for it,i still have to do some more checking into that, thankx for watching,tc
Rick I have a better way of getting that Quater on and perfect .. Put your quater on , mark the line where the quater is going to . Remove the quater , trim original quater to 2 inches bellow the line . snip up to the line every 6 inches .. screw the new panel back on and screw it down as tight as you can . start at the back or front cut the original quater up to six inches . remove the screws and the cut off pc from the back .. tack the 5 inch gap . repeat till done .but welded . grind . 40 years of body work talking here
Very nice work my friend. You are very cleaver with your ideas as to how to fit the panel.Looks very nice.Keep up the good work.Richard

Looking really good! You know when you had it just tacked on it was still better welded, and much better fitted, than it was done before. Fantastic.
