Scary Opening Climbing Scene | Vertical Limit
As a non-climber, this is the best depiction of climbing in the history of cinema.
Wrong!!!!!
Cliffhanger is #1
...this is a very close 2nd (and I've scaled Mnt Everest three times. So I would know)
I agree
And as a climber super super inaccurate lol if the cam could hold 5 people it could easily hold 3 lol and for non climbers, never never cut the rope dumbest thing ever. With that being said, I love this movie lol
@@devonc1284 agreed. Plus they’re ripping out multiple fixed anchors 😂😂😂
@@TrailCamCaptures Devon is right. The cam would have held 3 people. If force is mass x acceleration, and the cam can stop the weight of five people falling, then it would have held the weight of 3 stationary people.
I love the chemistry between brother and sister.great bonding.great love.great chemistry.both lead the storyline from the start to the very end.
Yeah miss such actors
As a non-climber who climbs, this is one of the most so-so depictions of climbing in the history of cinema.
as a climber who doesn't climb this is the best depiction of falling in the history of cinema, how's that? 🤣
This is why i like to stay at home
😂😂😂😂😂😂
Me too thank God for Video Games. 😂😂😂😂😂
Mountain climbing is the best example I can think of when asked "which human activity wouldn't you do?"
Wing Suit.
Yeah, rock climber of 4.5 years here. Their setup was not at all what would be used normally, not to mention our gear can lift a car, let alone hold up three people. Movies generally don't portray climbing correctly, leading to what I've heard being called the "free solo effect" which is when these incorrect depictions are seen as fact by people and gives climbing a false bad rep.
There you go.

I have seen a few videos of this.
It requires a lot of skill.

Cave diving
I’ll b honest even with all the equipment and training there isn’t enough money in the world that could get me to do this.
Same
This scene was hilarious!
Im not a climber at all! But i feel like this is the fast and furious of climbing!
absoulutely is, none of this is realistic; there's a video of Alex Honnold talking about this scene and other similar ones, it's a fun watch
@@Three_raccoons_in_a_trenchcoat He called this the most inaccurate and horrendous climbing scene in Hollywood climbing history.
Those dang ammeters at 12 o' clock get you every single time.
20+ years later, climbing for 12+ years and I still don't know what he meant.
Well all I know is ammeters measure amperage
My hands started sweating a bit on this scene.
It's only a movie, GET OUT OF THE HOUSE, even walk, but [ Arny voice] "Get out".
they use magnesia for hand sweat
If most safety equipment exploded off the wall like that when someone falls, then they bought that equipment from Michael Bay. THe last part was funny because I expected a Wily Coyote moment where he puts up a sign saying ouch.
Oohh, that’s bad! Lol
I don’t wish anyone to be a martyr, but having the intellect to understand you can minimize other deaths by taking your own life is the ultimate gift
Will you find out
This is what Easter is all about.
This is exactly what Christ did for us. He died in our place so that we can live through Him.
@@andreacumberbatch348 Oh what is this ridiculousness? If Jesus rose again on the third day and went on to rule the heavens, that is NOT a "sacrifice." It's a promotion. You silly christians want to have a martyr like Prometheus but you also want a living god to worship. Does it never occur to you that any pain, even crucifixion, is nothing to an infinite being?
@@andreacumberbatch348 Oh boo hoo he just went up to heaven to do whatever he wants. That's not sacrifice. Try watching The Kardashians with your wife to spend time together.
one of the best opening sequences ever
I mean... it's completely retarded, but yea, very dramatic.
you're . . . you're joking right? please tell me this is heavily shrouded sarcasm. this movie is absolute fucking bile lmao
Don't climb up cliffs, and you will never find yourself in this situation, promise.
Really? What if I was no climber but happen to be walking at the base and a climbing turd falls over me? It's a crappy situation all the same.
Turds are stinky.
@@Kannon_BR
If Man was meant to be climbing cliffs, God would have given us wings.
Are you sure.. I was on the playground jungle gym and the same thing happened..
As a climber, some of these comments are insane. We risk our lives every time we get in cars. This is NOT an accurate depiction of climbing. They're not even wearing helmets. They're big wall climbing below another group, which most people don't do. Could it happen? Maybe, once in a million years, if all the stars aligned. Is it likely to happen, or something that happens often? No freaking way. The gear- fixed and cams- is strong enough to hold a semitruck. That's a proven fact. Most accidents are due to human error, not gear failure (eg, a fixed bolt coming off the wall). This is an insane Hollywood dramatization. It's like saying the movie Speed represents your average bus ride. Please do not use a Hollywood video to inform you of an activity.
Great scene except for the end where his body hitting the ground looks like it fell maybe 10 feet lol
As a father, if any young kids are watching this and feel troubled by the young man's situation, don't be.
You cut the rope every time.
Вывод! За что боролись, на то и напоролись.
Why are you trying to be so dramatic?
@@Justin-uc8sc why do you give a fuck?
This movie was sooo underated
You spelled "overrated" wrong
You're right. With the shit3 they're making all the time now, sometimes I catch myself revisiting old movies like this and enjoying way more than today's cr@p.
It was a pretty good movie.
It was also "ahead of its time", haaaaaaaaaaaaa! 🤣
@@Kannon_BR
This movie sucked
This movie is one of the most embarrassing fucking things I've ever seen. It makes you believe Robin Tunney could actually act
Childhood core trauma.
Awareness buys you time, time buys options - until it doesn't. Stay awake, aware, and prepared. No one will come to save you.
Yes, you are correct. No one is coming.
Wrong. I am coming to save you! I'm COMING! ALWAYS coming!!!
I just can't STOP coming...... to save you.
😮😮😮 I remember my first time watching this scene
As a non-climber who frequently climbs but has never not sometimes climbed, I can confirm that this isn't not inaccurate.
Back when things were better, a bunch of people enjoying the outdoors, not a cell phone in sight.
right because this is a very realistic depiction of actual rock climbing lol
An impossible decision. Heroism and a family's love for each other forcing the ultimate sacrifice. How many of us could have offered certain death of ourself for another, or certain death for one we love for another we love? Pray we'll never have to face such a decision in our own lives.
For me son? There's no decision to be made.
@@haraldisdead Absolutely. Not a moment of hesitation.
@@jasonleeman5817I wouldn't know if that movie won any awards. I only know that the scene here, brought about a strong reaction in me. I was sitting on the edge of my seat the first time I saw that scene. Only a well written, well directed and powerfully casted movie can pull you into it's story and make you feel invested in the characters! This movie met all *MY* criteria! 👏
This is what Jesus did.
Extremely tough moment for Peter. You feel for him.
Antonio Banderas (Zorro) loved watching Stuart Wilson fall to his death in this movie 🤣
In reality we dont flap like headless chickens in panic after whipping 😆
Of course we do. Humans can fly.
As someone who avoids climbing tall objects situations like this rarely happen to me
Cams grip the rock stronger the more weight is applied... but sure..
Well that ruined my night and all hope in this world.
Love this opening scene…. Shame it was a green screen. 🤣🤣
The Navajo prohibits the climbing of any rock formations in Monument Valley hence the green screen… but those buttes are massive. Had the pleasure of horse riding round them twice with the Navajo
Really?...... you watched this whole scene and THAT'S the part you found difficult to believe?!?....
Course in The Eiger Sanction , Clint Eastwood did some real life climbing.
My god this scene is dumb. At 3:37 you can see the cam slightly slip out, then it defies the laws of physics by getting sucked back in.
And the father must have adamantine bones. He somehow isn't cut in half by the force of the rope at 2:19, and his body survives the impact of hitting the ground at 5:08 , as if he was dropped from about five feet.
Ehh, the body can withstand a lot before its "cut in half."
But yea, that's permanent paralysis and loss of consciousness, for sure.
Those clips never hold.
Uff, this scene....the whole movie is a very good one.
It was a head of its thyme.
I remember seeing this in the theatre with my brothers & sister cause we all really liked rock climbing & the outdoors…and altho the scene with the Father & cutting the rope was intense… i remember we all LAUGHED out loud when it cut to the far shot and the body suddenly falls into frame & hits the ground like in a Willie Coyote Road Runner cartoon! 😂 That shot was totally unnecessary & undercut the drama of the scene.
Agreed.
Brought you by nikon 😂
ㅎ 다시보는데도 손발에 땀이 흠벅^^..
This is one of the worst depictions of climbing in the history of cinema.
LMAO. STFU specially one of the best depictions of climbing in the history of cinema. It is clear that you have never climbed a day in your life
I know! Lol
What do you mean? It show’s people playing with they’re lives like a sport. I’d say it’s pretty accurate.
Thats because it was more of a depiction of falling, not climbing. 😂
Have you seen "Cliffhanger" movie?
terrible nonrealistic climbing in all respects but really good drama and (literal) tension building
только он стал весело напевать песенку, я знал что сейчас что-то произойдет...
Esse filme é inesquecível!
How is this fun to people. So dangerous and nerve racking
When I watched this POS movie at the theater, when the dad hit the ground, I started laughing hard. I said to myself that if only the dad would have tucked and rolled, he would have been ok.
How did these two survive? Someone please tell me !!
They probably decided to use their equipment correctly and climbed down with ZERO issues.
Lol. Honestly though, that is like asking "how does Batman always beat the bad guy?" None of it is real and it isn't supposed to be. This would literally NEVER happen. Pretty entertaining though. :)
never try to challenge such game 😆
How you climb that high I would be pooping my pants I know it’s just a movie
The dad didn't have a knife?
It's a movie , needs some drama .
He was a blade runner. No knife of his own.
this is intense - well scripted
This was a completely avoidable tragedy. Because of two idiots that camera met a premature end.
I hope he accepted Jebus Cripes as his lord and saviour before the big thud
I lost to friends who lived climbing. One falling the other froze to death after 4 days in alpine wall.
You may do anathor activity
I find it hard to feel sorry for people who put themselves in these situations.
And this situation can happen to all serious climbers with nonnegligible probabilities.
Kind of fun 😂

What do climbers who use safety equipment like these think of free climbers?
Free climbers use protection many, many times on a route before theu free solo it. If you know every move by heart and can basically do it blindfolded without falling, then free soloing isn't quite as crazy as it seems. They don't just free solo a route blindly.
@@dylanherne6093 i would do it blindly tbh

I cant stand the corny banter between the family who wrote this 😑
This opening is the movie that made my hands sweat the most.

Green screen only😅
No way you could do this as a practical effect, no insurer would ever give those actors any cover. And then there are all the liabilities to consider. The risk of a fatal accident is just too great.
What happens if you need to take a shiit?
And that's why I don't climb mountains.

He could of VERY easily relased himself, no need for his kid to cut the rope... dramatic i guess
I hate to ruin the drama here but his father didn't have a knife of his own with him?
Terminators can’t self terminate.pay attention.
