Haha right. I'm from around where he grew up. He had cool stuff in his basement. A mini rink with an actual nhl sized net and a super heavy lead ball. I couldn't do it cuz all he had was lefties. My dad was doing their wallpaper. I was there with him cuz I was grounded. Had no clue the dude was going to be an nhl legend at the time. His mom was a sweetheart. His sisters were cool. Hung out with them the whole time. His mom goes you want sit at the breakfast bar. I was like what's a breakfast bar. Idk. Always thought it was a neat story. His dad ran a dealership in the area. Want to say it was kane/Doyle

He was Pittsburgh Penguins fan growing up so Jagr and Malkin were his two favorites growing up.

That is how it works with home country heroes, the legend lives on for a long time. Irbe is still a legend in Latvia for the same reason, and he wasn't nearly as successful.

I'm not, Gretzky is before thier time. He retired in 99, most of these guys were born at that time . By the time they started watching and playing the next wave was here. I was surprised that Marleau wasn't picked given the popularity of the then still young franchise and his play at the time.
