I have had many teachers and I’ve listen to a lot of teachers on RUclips. But there is something about John Butler that is simply unlike anyone I’ve listened too, to date. There is such an incredible sincerity and depth of wisdom. I feel as though I am listening to some immortal person who’s walked the Earth for centuries.
I absolutely agree Wes. John is a rare and special human being. Have you read any of his books? I live in UK joined one of John's retreats this year, which I can say was truly life changing. Where do you live ?
Thats the thing tho, he is old man with depth and wisdom. There is younger "guru's" thede days everywhere. Via internet people have access to all the knowledge and wisdom ever written and sayd and then they are blasting it with ten year old rage. It doesnt have nuance or wisdom, John has it. I Its different to say that to "reach" enlightenment let go, be loving and be non violent, free from reactivity than to actually be that way after life gridning tou humble for 80 years. :)
I love how John never shies away from saying this is “real work.” It’s so true. To truly commit to a daily practice of spiritual development, in today’s day and age and everything that competes for our attention, is incredibly hard work.
11:53 this moment was very profound for me. I've thought this same thing myself several times which induced a sort of hopelessness in my recent years... I suppose knowing I am not the only one who realizes his insight is rarely truly conserved has given me some sort of comfort. Thank you John.
The grace of the saints is that they understand the degree of their sin and how much darkness is all around. We begin to see that we must bear the responsibility to maintain the light while we fight our ego and fight all the aches and pains of life. Super profound for the heart that truly cares for their own soul and those of others. I love John Butler for his wisdom.
This is my favourite talk by John. Every word he says is true. I'm no Christian...but I find it easy to apply what he says to my secular take on life. I find I gain great clarity of meaning from this talk. Thanks John.
I'm not religious either, definitely believe it's 100% wrong looking at history however, this mans words can be very helpful. Everyone wants peace of mind, to control their emotions, to flow...
Its that moment when you realize that you are not your thoughts, that a huge bolt of light infuses your understanding, and in most that is the threshold of freedom. When viewed from presence thoughts become a choice. This is bliss. :) Thank you guys. Much appreciated.
This guy is one of those rare treasures who has amazing insight and wisdom while being incredibly relaxing and calm to listen to. I hope he continues to make these videos for many years to come.
Im dropped tears again everytime im lesson John his a true friend God his presence and expression is what we need in this world the God almighty keeping this man forever in a state of love and peace❤️
Deva Premal s parents sang the Gayatri mantra for her daily when she was a kid. They said to her that its like laundry. 🌞 Thank you John, i feel very connected to you. Enjoying the most my time alone, listening, slowing down, observing nature/ city life, having a lot of divine insights and noting them down on my phone. And it's true, often i forget those small enlightment moments so i remind myself daily. Singing / listening to mantras with intention is instant divine bliss for me. Im building now a daily routine, morning and night, singing mantras while cleaning. God bless you, thank you for sharing your experiences, it encourages me to share mine 🌞💗
I would love for John to do a reading of his favorite book. Or just read the names from the local phone directory. It would have the same effect on me. A book would have some additional benefit, though.

Hairs on the back of my neck stand up, reminds me of my grandad when he used to tell me his war stories, not because of fear just a soothing voice of wisdom that relaxes you!
Am sure in one of his videos John let's a couple go apart from that smacking of his lips he seems to do all the time and as for some of the sound recordings John's recordings some are very high bass so sound quality is not that good especially if your listening on your TV.
Thank you, as ever, John. A note of feedback for consideration, if I may? Phil plays a useful role in framing the discussion, thoughtfully shepherding its flow and, at times, challenging John. It is this ability for us, as viewers, to witness challenge and response which, at least to my view, adds further to the credibility of that which John conveys. Hearing recently Phil raise, for example, the suffering of a Syrian mother protecting her child is a necessary counterfoil to John's assertion that no suffering exists. Challenge in this way further enables him to unfold for us that which we so clearly miss in our noisy public discourse and busy lives. So, therefore, while it is always a pleasure to listen to John, I suggest Phil's counterfoil further enriches the gain we receive from these videos.
Michael Mulqueen I agree, I very much appreciate that Phil represents “everyman” and asks the questions many of us would ask. I also enjoy the humor and lightness he brings to difficult subjects.
I agree with what you're saying but I think Phil should be edited out of the videos as much as possible. I don't mean to sound like an ass but I don't think his voice is all that pleasant and in contrast to John it's razor blades

Wonderfully spoken out of the midst of your being. Your honesty is overwhelming. It goes straight into my heart. Like boundless radiation of love and truth. Thank you! But there is one thought that comes up in me again and again. That there is no "world". And the sin we are doing again and again, is creating a world. I am surprised at the thumbs down on any of these videos. This man speaks from his years of experience in life. He is a simple man who found value in life itself, not what someone set as a way. Even when he quotes scripture he knows the connectedness that is essential. He had to live to find out. We are not our minds and we are not our bodies. We are the energy force that is always present in EVERYTHING. Being in stillness is great because it is not prejudice or religious or a certain set of standards made by man. I so wish Mr. Butler, I could convey to you how deeply you are affecting my life. Thank you will have to do I suppose. One fine gentleman you are. Peace to you, sir.
Listened to it again. Listening to this could be a good daily practicing actually. It's an existential Spiritual discourse, describing your own experience, but it is exactly as I've experienced as a Sufi, and as an initiate into the Tao. There is only the One. Non Duality. I am you and you are me in Spirit we share One Reality. I love you my brother, your a rare gem.
Just wanted to say hello to my friends, John and Phil. May God continue to bless you both!! As always I continue to practice finding stillness in the here and now. Thank you both again for continuing to inspire with these videos. Be still in his presence my friends. God bless.
Why is everyone telling John to get well? Did I miss something? He doesn’t seem sick nor look tired, he looks like he’s in his 80s. I also worry about his health, and am grateful each time I see a new video...but let’s not heap un-wellness upon him with our words.
John is quite well - thanks for the concern - although as you will have noticed he now walks with 2 sticks. He has had some special shoes made which will help. John has a holiday by the seaside in UK for a few days this week. Phil
You're great John. I love your humility, you're an inspiration. Receiving this message was like having a long drink of pure sweet water, wonderful many many thanks.
Thank you Mr. Butler with all my heart. You are a very special teacher.I say this because there are few people who can even begin to explain the levels of enlightenment as you have. I feel you have been sent by the Lord to help our worn out spirit.
Another quality video of enlightenment from John this gentleman has helped me reach meditation through his works and deal with the chronic tinitus that I’ve been suffering with 👍
🙏Hi John , I love your Teachings !! A lot of people are selling Spiritual Enlightment on u tube . I'm not saying they're not Spiritually Enlightened . When it's a means of making a living , they're not going to tell followers , actually I'm caught up in the mud again as there being treated like they know it all! Love your humility & honesty. God Bless you & Phil 🙏🐔🐬🐐🌿🍀🐛🐞🙏
Thank you, John Butler. This video was full of a loving gaze... you give us a taste of the divine, loving and forgiving gaze. Thank you for incarnating God's gentleness and wise laughter. And thank you for showing how simple and yet how hard the work of being human is. And thank you for using this medium for speaking straight to the heart, mind and spirit of everyone who chooses to watch. In that way, you remind me of Fred Rogers who recognized right when television was created, all that was possible with the medium to speak straight to the hearts of children. And did so with his whole life in Mister Rogers Neighborhood. I'm glad to know YOU as my neighbor along with all those who listen to your words taken them to heart.
Hey you are something you are special and clever and the best in the world at something. Don't try to be john instead be yourself because that is the person you are great at being. If you want to be enlightened then you can learn to be we as humans learn things very well that is what we were meant to do. Never bully yourself instead motivate yourself if you want yourself to be better. You were born for a purpose now fulfil that purpose be you and be the best you ever.
@@emmaharpham9874 Sort of takes away from your message that you're concerned with Scotty copying it and stealing your thunder. That is, if it truly was meant to lift the spirit of SanguineUltima, rather than an exercise in ego-stroking. I think your original intent was probably selfless, I really do, but surely two uplifting replies are better than one. If anything was "copied," it was Sesame street, asserting that everyone is special (which would imply that being special is literally the least special thing one can be). I prefer the idea that everyone is _capable_ of being special. That, with enough effort, anyone can achieve something that allows them to stand above the crowd in that particular area; hopefully with the goal of applying the fruits of that achievement toward helping others, rather than simple ego or hierarchical fulfillment. When I was at my worst, the idea that everyone is inherently special felt vapid and useless, meant more to provide social relief to those saying it, to feel as if they'd made an effort, than for the actual sufferer. Our sense of self-worth-misguided or not-is a relative, rather than absolute, value; so we judge ourselves based on our own abilities or traits in relation to those of others. To simply say, "I'm special-isn't that great?" is like patting oneself on the back for being able to walk or hear. I think it's great that you said what you did to SanguineUltima, but I think a better message is, "You are capable of being something," rather than, "You have this inherent trait that makes you something." And to SanguineUltima, about being enlightened: the great part of Gautama Buddha's work is that it's based on the idea that everyone is capable of achieving that state. I, myself, am irreligious, but there are no restrictions that says you can't be Christian or Deist in order to take advantage of the Buddha's teachings. It is something you can work toward and doesn't require divinity or preternatural abilities to attain.
@@Len124 damn long message and I was trying to be kind but I had just had enough of people stealing my awnsers and quotes all the time and did not mean to offend anyone just I guess we all have our off days it was just unlucky that was my day
Thanks I needed to be reminded of this today... recently all that my mind has been filled with is worry even with consistent practice (meditation) every morning. I'll keep on working and maybe some day I can release these thoughts from my mind
John thank you for the kind message you have helped me very much, I have a had these brief moments of enlightenment, but I struggle with falling back into forgetting, I want to thank you for todays message for it has helped me understand my current state of mind, God bless. - JRW
So lovely to be able to watch a video that’s not long been uploaded being Im a new fan of your channel... Thank you and blessings for your talks Mr Butler it’s such an awaking for me, I love your smile too 🙏🏻💖
I gave up on the what I call the Oneness Cult about ten years ago, but it's something soothing about listening to John. I'm a Christian now, thank God.
I am beginning to understand my true nature, in which sin and darkness are simply non-existent. And yet I agree, I'm always being forgetful and getting pulled back into darkness. I suppose the first statement is at least some kind of declaration of freedom from the second statement. I can try to keep remembering the first statement, but I agree, vigilance is required.
I have watched all of this channel’s uploads with varying degrees of focus on a number of occasions, not because I don’t find it all of interest but because I tend to be in various states of ‘awareness’, mainly drifting in and out of consciousness 😴 There are a number of things I would like to say, and given that it’s a culmination of my thoughts in response to parts covered over numerous videos no single place to post this is more relevant than anywhere else, so apologies if I cover ground from other uploads. Firstly I’d like to applaud the production of these conversations, they are like a sanctuary in a frenetic world. Both Phil and John I find very erudite and are both the type of man I wish I could have been more like. I am vaguely familiar with Bakewell having visited a number of times in my youth and my memory of the place leaves me in little doubt that the area is blessed being sufficiently distanced from the modern thrust of corporate city life so as to be conducive of the type of mentality shown in these two Gentlemen, both of whom are a credit to us all. The following areas are not meant to offend anyone and if any of my thoughts are deemed a little controversial for this channel I will understand if they don’t attract opinion. I too have struggled with the notion of evangelical Christianity of Jesus the man (as John has suggested he has and preferred to think of Jesus more of a spirit of nature) The idea of Jesus as nature seemed bizarre to me at first I have to confess, all I have heard previously are distinctions where one must comply with the idea of Jesus the son of god, god himself or some manifestation in between, but all requiring ‘him’ to be our saviour. I have no problem accepting such a notion, but the idea that this only comes to pass as a result of collective guilt from original sin, which wasn’t sufficiently redeemed in the eye’s of a creator so that his ‘son’ should be sacrificed and all we need do is say we believe it to eradicate all need of the original covenant seems to me totally absurd. That said, Jesus as nature also can be seen as somewhat facile. Nature is hell continually. Infanticide for example isn’t my vision of love and some of the very worst areas of opportunistic ‘behaviour’ of survival at all costs that are emulated by man are mirror images of parts of nature killing other nature. Quite where bacteria and the parasitic traits of it;s manipulation on a host fits into this logic also is very difficult to comprehend. Nevertheless, the idea of Jesus as nature does resonate. I try to kill nothing at all seeing all things as having equal right to live and non of it being made by me and so is not for me to decide it’s fate. I only ever feel guilt whenever I do inadvertently kill anything. Regarding meditation itself I have a couple of open questions to anyone. On the occasions I have attempted it I have nearly always felt it like a ride at the fairground that I am sat on wondering if the thing will start. I have to declare here, and with no shame, that I have been a user of numerous chemicals that resulted in sometimes amazing experiences. In short I am both receptive of, and experienced in, the journey of euphoric psychedelic experiences. So I wonder if what I experience as meditation is in fact mindfulness, spirituality or in fact just hallucinations from stuff like psilocybin of my past, but I have to ask, do people generally travel through their mindseye and watch an arbitrary ‘light show’ of imagery, or does this sound too cliché? Awe has been argued by far clever people than me to open the senses and give a spiritual awareness to humans, scientists around the world are becoming accommodating of the virtues of natural chemicals in mushrooms in treating anxiety and addiction not to mention increases in a belief of being closer to nature and even ‘improvements’ in productivity (if that sort of thing appeals to you). So a question if possible to John himself; where do natural chemicals such as these fit into your view of spiritualism (I understand if you wish not to approach this subject) Finally, what do the church in Bakewell think of the idea of meditating in a way that isn’t all together following the doctrines of the ‘house’ religion? Thank you all for reading, and take care.
Well - quite a comment!. Which, as everyone's approach to and understanding of meditation is different, I'd rather not answer here ... but, better, one to one
As usual just what I needed and been waiting for . Thank you thank you Guys 🙌 🇦🇺 Exactly right John ,there's too much darkness in this mad World & not enough light 😔 Much love & Eternal light to you all 🇦🇺
If I was caretaking that church, I'd be going around with bits of foam and rubber plus glue and silicone, and silencing whatever is banging all the time!
I would do whatever it took to get to a meditation retreat. Sadly being 4,000+ miles away makes it all the more difficult. I hope to one day join a retreat, even if it means flying across the pond to finally meet John.
Something I remind to those who believe in science over God...Science states that energy is neither created nor destroyed, it just changes form. (law of thermodynamics). Every cell in our body has energy and when we pass it just changes form. So you see, even science proves that we are spiritual beings who become something else altogether when we pass. We become one with him! In essence we are immortal beings under his divine light and energy :) God is with us all. He resides within us. We sometimes just need to remember that. We are all truly special and unique beings as the expression of God is different within us. He gave us all individual gifts. Hence all our different personality traits. Yet we all come from the same Light, created in his image!! Remember how special each and every one of you are! God Bless everyone!! :)
Hello, was wondering if you could talk about trust and recognition. More specifically trust that what you find in "stillness" is where you're supposed to go. How to recognize that. You've said that one day you heard, "to make whole, be whole." I was hoping to get a video speaking on that very subject. Recognizing that voice and trusting it. Even when it may seem impossible. Thank you so much for the videos you put out.
Kael Mostowy I’ve found that the part of me that knows right from wrong , my “conscience “, is similar to the voice that should be followed. I’d also like to hear if he has any insights into the subject.
Thanks Kael. John and I talked about making the next video on 'Trust'. It seems in ever shorter supply these days. In fact, my hairdresser said to me only last week "I don't trust anyone." How sad, I said. Phil
Such a lovely gentleman and what a great sense of humour too, sounds like John blew a raspberry at 19:54 whilst in good humour. Thanks John for helping discovery and enlightmennt of Stillness.
Wonderful video John. Amen to all of it. As I was watching this video, a thought ran across my mind that piqued my curiosity! I came across a video on RUclips that talked about the Myth of Plato’s Phaedras that was very intriguing to learn about. It happened to cross my mind while listening to you and I wonder what your thoughts are about Plato’s myth in Phaedras or In general your views on how Plato conceptualizes the spiritual philosophy of soul ascension. Thank you 😊

When it's a means of making a living , they're not going to tell followers , actually I'm caught up in the mud again as there being treated like they know it all! Love your humility & honesty. God Bless you & Phil 🙏🐔🐬🐐🌿🍀🐛🐞🙏
Need more videos I appreciate this man's wisdom
Beautiful analysis of the reality of Spiritual awakening. Thank you brother. Much needed.
Been waiting for a new video! Thank you John (and Phil)!
So much truth 🙏🏻 thank you 🙏🏻 I love the giggles it reminds me not to take it all so seriously ✨✨
Beautiful. Thank you John.
I love you John!
I wish I could become enlightened. I wish I could become anything at all.
You are something. You are the only YOU there is! You are special. I'm glad you're here.
@@ScottyHuff you technacly copied me
@@emmaharpham9874 Sort of takes away from your message that you're concerned with Scotty copying it and stealing your thunder. I think it's great that you said what you did to SanguineUltima, but I think a better message is, "You are capable of being something," rather than, "You have this inherent trait that makes you something."
And to SanguineUltima, about being enlightened: the great part of Gautama Buddha's work is that it's based on the idea that everyone is capable of achieving that state.

Jesus was pointing at "oneness"

'its funny but such hard work' preach
I am beginning to understand my true nature, in which sin and darkness are simply non-existent. And yet I agree, I'm always being forgetful and getting pulled back into darkness. I suppose the first statement is at least some kind of declaration of freedom from the second statement. I can try to keep remembering the first statement, but I agree, vigilance is required.
I was waiting for this new video and now I'm watching it and I will not be disappointed I just love you videos
The ever present agents of darkness were again restlessly banging about
I’m convinced I would like to read one of your books which book should I start with ?
The Bible
I have watched all of this channel’s uploads with varying degrees of focus on a number of occasions, not because I don’t find it all of interest but because I tend to be in various states of ‘awareness’, mainly drifting in and out of consciousness 😴
There are a number of things I would like to say, and given that it’s a culmination of my thoughts in response to parts covered over numerous videos no single place to post this is more relevant than anywhere else, so apologies if I cover ground from other uploads.
So a question if possible to John himself; where do natural chemicals such as these fit into your view of spiritualism (I understand if you wish not to approach this subject)
Finally, what do the church in Bakewell think of the idea of meditating in a way that isn’t all together following the doctrines of the ‘house’ religion?
Thank you all for reading, and take care.
Well - quite a comment!. Which, as everyone's approach to and understanding of meditation is different, I'd rather not answer here ... but, better, one to one
Thank you
Hello great video just wondering where you were today phil are you ill if so get well soon but very guiding well done john.
No not ill. Just wanted to be less visible on what may be John's most watched vid. Phil
That is very Heideggerian, I think even says something very similar about "forgiving". And it's overall a similar way of analysis.
As usual just what I needed and been waiting for . Thank you thank you Guys 🙌 🇦🇺
Exactly right John ,there's too much darkness in this mad World & not enough light 😔
Much love & Eternal light to you all 🇦🇺
If I was caretaking that church, I'd be going around with bits of foam and rubber plus glue and silicone, and silencing whatever is banging all the time!
i love this guy
I would do whatever it took to get to a meditation retreat. Sadly being 4,000+ miles away makes it all the more difficult. I hope to one day join a retreat, even if it means flying across the pond to finally meet John.
One day hopefully. You can register for dates of retreats here - spiritualunfoldment.co.uk/retreats.html. Phil
Yayyy! Such joy!! Thank you for your efforts! Love you guys!
What you are looking for, is where you are looking from.
I am not religious at all. I listen to him to help me fall asleep. So relaxing
Noisiest church in England, always hammering and slamming doors. Subtle boikot🤫
It's pretty annoying.
Its just Jesus filling the wine cabinet
do you mean boycott omg i was sitting here trying to figure it out
Something I remind to those who believe in science over God...Science states that energy is neither created nor destroyed, it just changes form. :)
I needed this
Lovely.. x
Acid Santa's back, yay!
It is work... and I only see brief glimpses of light at a time. Thanks for the video.
Thank you ❤
A great soul.
This is the noisiest church in England and i haven’t been in that many churches but this is like a drop in centre 💁🏼♀️
Phil
His voice is similar to Eckhart Tolle lol regardless this man has a great energy about him ❤️🙏🏼
Such a lovely gentleman and what a great sense of humour too, sounds like John blew a raspberry at 19:54 whilst in good humour. Thanks John for helping discovery and enlightmennt of Stillness.
I can smell it from here...
Thank you 😊
Sorry, dear - that's a bit beyond me! John
That’s alright! Thank you anyways!
You can see Parmenides, , Democrito, Spinoza, Leibniz, Hégel or Teilhard de Chardin in his words
