I like to watch you paint with your colour blocking. I look forward to the pushing back the mountains video. I enjoy mountains and discerning which color choices surpass others.
I just found you and fell in love with your paintings and your style! I was so curious, as an artist to watch you paint! Thank you for sharing your amazing talents!
I am fascinated how you know where to put your color blocks. I love watching your process. One part at this stage I really like is over on the right side, half way down where you have the green and lime striped plant. That looks like a fantasy plant turned to the sun. And the other similar ones to the left of that. I know it is your color blocks, but to me they are really sweet and playful looking.
I’m a new painter, so this painting looks finished. I’m excited to see how you push the middle section back and take it up a notch to where it’s gallery ready. 😊 I’m in Edmonton Alberta and was visiting the fabulous art galleries in Canmore last October. That’s where I discovered your work and have been watching your videos. Thank you for posting them. PS: I’m a 71 year old woman who should have kept up with my painting interests years ago. Life got in the way, but here I am now and love it. I’m building more confidence with every painting. I particularly love using my palate knife.
I too would love to see your process for pushing the mountains back. Watching you paint is inspiring as I love your juicy colours and your technique of letting colours blend on the canvas.
Your painting are beautiful and I love all of the colors and movement! I wish you taught more about how you paint in such an abstract way but with outstanding flow and easiness! ❤
I love your process of blocking in your middle ground first and then going out to the sky and then your foreground. It seems it forces you to keep your paint application consistent, which is important. I love your vibrant color scheme and your style! Can't wait to see more!
I appreciate your non-traditional approach to painting - color blocking the mid-ground and then building out the sky and water/reflection from the focal point. Would love to see this finished, and observe your technique of pushing back the mountains!
So beautiful! I'm not an acrylic paint artist but your video was intoxicating! I had to watch it to the end!! Keep up the great work! You have a lovely perspective in your art!
Thank you for sharing this. I love it. Your story was great. It was generous for you to share it will people you dont know. Yes please let us see I finish it.
I love watching you paint,,and i have been to the Three sisters. You have inspired me to try out your technique. I like to try new things in painting atleast once (not always succesful, lol) Your videos are well done. Cant wait for the next one. Thank you.
Your paintings remind me of Emily Carr's. I used to live near Seattle, and we went up to BC often. I got a chance to see many Emily's works at an exhibition in the BC Art Museum. I have recently started painting again., and I would like to try a painting using your techniques. I would like to see a video on how you load your brush with multiple colors; how you set up your palette to accommodate your style, and how you decide on the colors to load your brush for a brushstroke. I subscribed at your request. Thanks for posting this.
Julia, I’ve been attempting this style. Hahaha. Not as easy as it looks. I was blaming my paint, then I was blaming my brushes. I think it’s just a matter of getting those courageous strokes down. I will be practicing more. 😅
i love the bright red background, part of me would try to leave probably way too much of it visible. its a very flowing landscape🥰 hey another art person from hamilton!! I was there from age 9 to 15 up in the lethbridge area 🙂
Aren’t I lucky to see this. I have a home in Canmore and I know the Avens Gallery and of course the spectacular Three Sisters! I too have family out in Canmore and Calgary and am there 5-6 times a year, heading out again mid Feb. I love your style Julie, I am a novice painter and have a million questions but Ill ask this of you: we both know what the Three Sisters look like … do you have a process of “interpretation” or Impressionism” of your images/photos? Or is is simply years of experience? Kind of a tough question but use throwing it out there. Nest time I’m out Ill drop by the Gallery. Happy New Year! And yes pleas video the final touches, it will be welcomed!
How lucky are you to have a home in Canmore!!! Please visit the gallery and tell them you saw me on RUclips! I use photo reference but loosely interpret the shapes. I use many colours on my brush so rocks are really well suited to this style. It is experience but also trial and error! Keep painting!
Very curious to know how you will “push the mountains back” in the final steps. Lighter values… opacity…soft edges? Can’t wait to see what you do. Thanks for sharing your wonderful process!!
Yes! Please more videos and the completion of the 3 sisters , and how you pushed back the mountains. Love your work!
I will work on this one this week!

I appreciate that you like the videos! I am so new!
I have lived in Calgary all my life, except for 5 years when we moved to Canmore. Now we have a ‘summer place’ in Parksville, BC!!

Just stumbled onto your channel. So glad I watched. Beautiful work. New subscriber here.
Welcome to my channel! Thank you!
I like how you paint the sky and water last. Much easier to gauge the lighter values youll need to balance the darker midground.
It’s true!

I live near Kelowna and love to see your work at the Hambilton Gallery. I’m so curious what some of your favourite paint colours are?
Very curious to know how you will “push the mountains back” in the final steps. Lighter values… opacity…soft edges? Can’t wait to see what you do.
Thanks for sharing your wonderful process!!
I will do this video this week! Definitely lighter, cooler colours!
Very nice
This is wonderful thank you!! would you be willing to demonstrate a small painting in real time?
I will work on this!
I am lucky as an artist, both of our daughter-in-laws are hikers and know the name of every peak in Alberta lol.
Vera niece
Love your works. What genre would you say your art falls into, abstract, folk, cubism ?
I allays say representational Impressionism.
I love your style! Why red?
I have tried many colours and red received my palette choices so well! (Edited. Dang autocorrect!)
