  • A refrigerated container or reefer is an intermodal container that can be used to transport temperature-sensitive, perishable cargo such as fruits, vegetables, meat, and other similar items.
    There are three different refrigerator containers: 53’ reefer container, 20' reefer container, and 40' reefer container. These refrigerated containers are a low-cost alternative for customers since it is already insulated.

    Great video. Does the roof on this style need the same structural support as a regular can or more? You mentioned how load the fan is. I wonder if it could be replaced with a quieter fan blade and not loose to much performance.

    Cold, heavy, refrigerated air always flows out and away from the front of the reefer along bottom through the Ts. It hits the back doors, then moves up and along the top of the reefer back to the A/C unit, where it cycles over again and again. It does not flow from out of the top and return on the floor as stated here. It's possible some 18 wheeler type reefers operate like this, but not shipping containers.

    • @MrJetFormation
      @MrJetFormation 2 месяца назад

      Correct, tractor trailer unit's operate in such a way. There are inflatable tubes, well tarp like tubes which stretch throughout the reefer unit and disperse air from the back to all the way to the front to be cycled back through the evaporator.

    This is excellent information. I love the alarms. I'm curious if I can put an insulated partition in there to have half deep freeze and the second half "refrigerated" side for normal foods unfrozen.

      Do they have 60 foot versions. And can you clearly describe "expensive". $20,000 or $80,000?

      It depends on your area. I honestly don't deal with purchasing or sales anymore so I don't know the current cost. I'd have to ask my purchaser. Pre Covid I think they were around $30,000 USD. I be they're over 40 now.

      It would be tricky to balance the cooler temperature. Can probably do it with fans moving air through the partition wall when cold is needed.

    This is good information. I have one question for you. We got contract to wash these containers in new zealand. If you check your video 4:07 . You can see black streaks on paint. They are not come of with pressure wash . I think they bake on the paint. Is there any good chemical to help come off easily? At this stage we use buffer and aggressive pad with compound to remove them . The result is satisfying but take too long to finish both sides. I can email more info if you need. Any suggestions will be helpful.

      I know CN and CP rail would acid wash their painted aluminum 53's that had diesel grime on them. Have you tried that? I know what stain you're talking about and not sure it's from the same source.

    So this one is top of the line I’m assuming. I just started researching them and saw you can buy something used for 5-8 thousand. Is that accurate? I’m also a class A driver so it’s just a matter of time before I bump into the right situation.

    • @TheContainerGuyTV

      We have 3 or 4 videos on reefers. Reefers are not standardized like 20's and 40's. There's a lot of variance in the design and construction over the last 20 years so you never know what you're going to get. If you have one and need help, send us lots of pics of it to mods@thecontainerguy.ca and I'll try my best to walk you through your mod.

      @@emery3887 I'm in Dominican right now and trying to learn/figure out what is best for you. I think the same building envelope for the arctic is what you want for the tropics. I would give the container a good coat of 2 component polyurethane paint immediately then monitor it every year for rust or just plan to apply a cost of paint each year. Seems like they are constantly painting things down here to avoid rust. The outside is likely more vulnerable than the inside. Make sure you have a Heat Pump Air Conditioner and the condensate line is draining outside. The Senville units on Amazon.ca are amazing. You can use a Mysa thermostat and control it from anywhere in the world if you have internet.
