A lot people Think That a wasted Character means a bad Character Rock Lee was wasted and he Still was Really well Written
I still have rock lee as one of my favorite Naruto characters even tho he peaked at Part 1. I even rewatched his fight with Garaa and Kimmimaro before finishing shippuden because of how cool he is and his flashbacks. He should have had a fight against Sasori since Sakura was able to kill him with Lady Chio and he’s better at taijutsu than her. He definitely has some of the best filler episodes in all of Naruto so at least he has that.

He probably still is my favorite Character in the entirety of Naruto even tho Deidara, Shikimaru, Sasuke, Itachi, Jiriya(RIP), Kimmimaro, Choji and shippuden Ino, Sasuke, Might Guy, Kakashi and Naruto are some of my favorite characters. He should have fought some of the Akatsuki with might Guy or another character.
I think the problems lies with the term “wasted character” itself. Waste is not just literal garbage but refers to some unused or used in inefficient way, likely to the effect of a net loss. When that is attached to a character, it pretty much means that they are of that status as well.
I think people should probably say things like “an underutilized character” or “a character with that had more potential” rather than use a term that most commonly, explicitly refers to bad characters.
My hot take for this list: Anko should've been #1. The fact that she is the only character in the Leaf village that has curse mark and never interacted with Sasuke is a huge missed opportunity. Imagine that speech that Kakashi gives him before he leaves the village, but done by Anko who is someone who knows from 1st hand experience what Orochimaru and the curse mark can do to a person.
Her dissapearance was unexplained, she questioned sasuke using curse mark in the exams and dissapeared after that, she shoulda been there to protect sasuke from kabuto not kakashi, she shoulda made the seal not kakashi, she shoulda been on the water tower with kakashi not jiraya, when kakashi gave his ignorant speech that was a perfect moment for anko to get emotional and give sasuke proper empathy but she wasnt there, she shoulda been running to the final valley but she wasnt there, she shoulda been on the sasuke retreival to kill orochimaru and save sasuke but she wasnt there, she just dissappears, wasted design personality and lore, better if they killed her off with a slow posion after orochima her trying to help sasuke in the exams, she also knows oros plan to kill hiruzen and keeps quiet, wasted in war arc as a plot device, her getting fat in boruto was fine it symbolized how she wasted away, a genuis design if u look at it that way, kishimoto doesnt give 90% characters good conclusions
@@IIIISai I mostly disagree. Kakashi as his direct teacher makes sense being there for all those reasons, as well as Jiraiya being at the hospital being Naruto's mentor. That said, you definitely have a point in at least being there to assist in fending off Kabuto, sealing the Curse Mark (although it would call into question why she didn't seal her own), and notably Kakashi's speech. But that doesn't necessarily mean "replace Kakashi/Jiraiya in every one" since outside of those three scenarios, Anko has less reason for interaction with Sasuke than just a fellow victim of Orochimaru's experiments. I also don't see how Kakashi's speech is considered "ignorant" by any means.

Honestly, if we're logically speaking and she was portrayed properly, sakura would've been able to give a weakened sasuke a fight. I honestly think she would've.
Having sasuke fight Sakura could of been very impactful instead of stabing Karin through during the Danzo fight he could of done it to Sakura instead showing how far gone he is

Ino isn’t a fighter and Kiba was hot garbage back in part 1 so i don’t know why someone would expect them to square up against the Akatsuki or anyone higher than that.
If you want all these side characters and literal one use cast members to get limelight then Naruto would be cancelled for readers losing interest because they’re aren’t gonna sit through half a year of chapters of the Kiba arc.
Not necessarily but for most yes. For some wasted potential is a guy like L from Death Note. He was young, smart and could possibly have solved more cases dealing with the death note to stop further deaths.
A lot of characters have motivations that could've drove the story further which would most likely lead to a fight because it's anime.

Majoirty of these characters are background characters that already servced their purpose or characters that he didn't like how they were written I wouldnt say they were wasted. The only characters I agree are neji lee and maybe anko

I watched his Naruto rewrite made it to part 4 or 5 and didn't like it he wrote out Konohamaru and said “he doesn't add anything to the story” when that's literally Narutos first kind of friend he thinks of him as a brother and student like some of his ideas are fine just some things were wack
Around the 14:00 part, the dude says that it is convenient when it is really not. Throughout the story of Shippuden it has been stated countless of times that the Uzumaki clan are really good in sealing justu and Orochimaru, a man know for doing extensive research, was looking around the ruins of the Uzumaki clan's former home doing research on those sealing techniques (I'm pretty sure the reaper death seal is a jutsu developed by the Uzumaki) so I have no idea about that critique.

Also what about the light novels that were adapted into anime cannon after the main story in. Both things I mentioned are canon to Naruto shippudden. Even the side characters received a lot development. It just tells me he didn’t watch the series in its totality.

Yeah, I wish we could've seen more of Anko, as all your points are correct, & besides being the main proctor of The Forest of Death during the Chunin Exams, her only big/relative part was being used to revive Orochimaru, but due to that, she doesn't have her curse mark anymore & can't use any of the curse mark abilities & jutsus (not like we ever got to see any from her anyways).
Then, they decide to do her SO DAMN DIRTY & made her totally irrelevant in Boruto...😭😭

Orochimaru is such a character that its kinda fitting he would slither away after the stakes got higher and his power level was proven to him to be not as relevant as the real deal end game bosses.

I think they should’ve only developed Hinatas relationship with Naruto better. It kind felt really forced. They should’ve made him remember her confession during the pain arc and think over it until they meet again in the war.

Sakura is actually the complete opposite of a wasted character. She didnt deserve a lot of the moments that could have belonged to much stronger characters, ESPECIALLY the final punch she got on kaguya (she got the final punch on the final boss and she was wasted???) When she is in no way strong enough to deserve that shot. Kakashi deserved that. Even Rock Lee deserved that more than her. They didnt waste her, they reused her when there was nothing left to reuse and SHOULD have been wasted

Sage is gives manga writers a lot of good faith. We all agree that Naruto doesn’t write female characters well. Majority of people who watch Naruto hates Sakura for multiple reasons and she ends up being with guy that treated her horribly. Which is a bad message for the viewer or reader which makes her a wasted character.
Hinatai should’ve had more screen time to develop her relationship with Naruto or her as character. There’s female viewers of the show that hate her because they think Naruto should’ve ended up with Sakura. Because Sakura had so much screen time and treated Naruto like shit and they thought that she would realize that Naruto is better for her than Sasuke.

I mean, yeah, he is just the procter at first & all, but he was also head of the Interrogation for all of Konoha, & even went head to head with one of the Pains (I believe it was the Animal Path?).
I thought his abilities were dope, I do wish we could've seen more & TRULY see how he does interrogation.

Kiba is totally not fitting this list. He is the stereotypical early bloom early peak type, like those lads that peak in high school and then just kinda get left behind in the dust in life. Great piece for story telling as is, because you compare the true main characters upgrades and improvements against him even during the end of part one and during the beginning of shippuden. After some time he just falls of a cliff, or better yet others surpass him so hard he is not even that measuring stick anymore.
Powerlevel at mid chunnin exam Naruto is like 1.1 Kiba, at the Sasuke retrieval arc, 1.2 KIba, but even at the bridge fight against Orochimaru its like 100 KIbas LOL

Combat wise? Top 3 in Konoha at the end of Shippuden.
Character wise? She has one of the most developed characters in Shippuden. In fact, she develops MORE in Shippuden than in Part 1.
Truthfully I don't think the Sakura part was wrong. Like the 3 scenes of contention weren't to Sakura's benefit as a character but as a detriment to her character. It's very easy to be reductive and say things like "You want Sakura to fight Pein?" YES! And why is that a bad thing, considering she's a "Main Character" or a "Lead Side Character"? She's on the main team, why is Konohamaru beating a Path but she's boxing Summons and crying out for Naruto? The scene where Sakura attempts to deceive Naruto by confessing her "Love for Naruto" is universally panned. No one likes that scene and it does nothing for Sakura. The other scene where Sakura attempts to take on Sasuke herself only serving as a damsel for Kakashi and Naruto to save in the same exchange. She's as STRONG as Tsunade and becomes way stronger than her and we don't see that in the series, and she does absolutely nothing here but serve as a detriment for the guys to save! THAT is wasted potential and it's sad.
I think a great video that elaborates on this idea and for other characters on the list would be Sage's Rain's video on the Fem cast of Naruto and their other videos. I highly suggest maybe a watch of it might help your understanding of this criticism and they make comprehensive videos about other themes and characters in Naruto (and other anime).

Facts, the war arc and the gaara rescue did the most for her character. Though I do think she did a lot outside the fights. Because you have to remember her role first and foremost is a medical specialist.
