I actually like the star wars micro style builds as a concept; some are better than other. But adding an exclusive minifig would really take them over the top, at least for me.

I think, that the new May the 4th -sets are actually pretty cool, and a definite improvement.
The Lego fandom is so obsessed with the figures, that they’ve forgotten what it’s all about. Most of the videos are just mini-figure talk, sets are rated by their mini-figures and the mini-figure prices skyrocket as people are willing to pay set prices for them alone. Pretty pathetic honestly. I’d love to see a shift towards a more MOC centred fandom, but I guess that it’s just much easier to collect and line mini-figures on the shelf.

Yeah, Lego fans really obsess over the smallest things. Reviews for Bionicles often give them a hard time just because they use blue friction axle/peg pins and red 2-stud axles that clash with the rest of the colors in the sets, but I honestly don't see them as a problem and think the colors schemes look fine without them being distracting.

That Lego Slave one was dear to me as a kid, and looking back, I actually like how simple the early star wars sets were. Back then Lego sets were expected to be blocky with simple colors and a lot of exposed studs. Whats interesting too is that for the parts of the build that are on the inside they used a lot of random colors, which was cool for adding a bit of variety to the lego bin they eventually ended up in.

To then lose the yearly exclusive pieces is of course kind of irritating/a disappointment. By no means are the builds BAD, but this was about disappointment. And from that angle, yes it is a bit of a dissapointment.

@@TheGrejp Same, I still have all three motor sets from when I was a kid, I loved those sets even though my Record N' Play has few issues. Mine has the problem where it makes static noises from the piezo sounder when you turn it off, which would creep me out as a kid (this is a known issue, it tells you to reset it in the manual, but it's so old now that no longer fixes it). The robot build also has an issue where the head is attached to the reset switch, making go haywire every time it moves, often resulting in the hilarity of it running around until it knocks it's own head off. My wind up and electric motor sets are no longer complete (though I could Bricklink the missing pieces back).
If you can find them second hand for a good deal, they'd make great parts sets for things like GBCs as well.

I still own three of the Lego Technic Star Wars sets. Pit Droid (8000), Battle droid (8001) and Droideka (8002). They were pretty detailed and worked will, as each set could 'fold up' as depicted in the movies, and each came with alternative instructions for other models that could be made with the parts. If I'd known how much the sets are going for now, I would have kept them in the boxes.
