If you want to really take it up a level, use two different gradient yarns. Especially something like a zauberball, and both balls change and the color combinations will be amazing!

Mam lovely video❤to make scarf for an adult size with this said shape ,how many stitches do i need to cast on and how long should the scarf be ? Thanks ❤
that all depends on what weight yarn you use, what size needles you use and how long do you want it?
If I'm using sock weight yarn I'll typically have about 90-100 stitches on Size 3 needles.
If I'm using worsted weight, I'll typically have about 40-60 stitches with size 7-8 needles.
If you use bulky yarn, you could have 10-15 stitches on size 13 needles....
So just depends what you want to use. Make a test swatch of whatever yarn and cast on 25 stitches...see if you need more or less. Work about 10-15 rows and you'll see how that yarn and needles work.

Do you have a pattern for this scarf or written instructions?
I don't have a written pattern, but I can tell you. I also explain it in the video.
cast on 3 stitches. Now every other row you will increase at the beginning and end of the row. The next row is knit all stitches.
Do these 2 rows until the scarf is as wide as you want.
Then the 2-row repeat will be: row 1 increase at beginning of row and decrease at the end of the row. Row 2, knit all stitches.
Repeat these rows till the scarf is the length you want.
Last 2 row repeat is: row 1 decrease at beginning of row and decrease at the end of the row. Repeat these 2 rows till you get down to 3 stitches and bind off.
So there are 3 phases... Increase phase, length phase, and decrease phase.

I have made one that goes from 3 stickers to a big square knit yarn over then keep doing it till you have a diamond then knit one ya over and knit two together then knit two together at next to last stich at end.
I like this a lot.

To get the edge you got, I have always slipped the first stitch as if to purl rather than the last stitch as you showed. Also, I am wanting to make a baby afghan and do you think I could do it with a yarn over increase?
That's the fun of knitting is to try and figure out if you can change it up! Depending on what patterns I'm using I may always slip the first stitch or the always the last stitch. As long as you are consistent it should work out fine! As for a YO Increase, yes you can do that, just remember the YO will leave a hole.

How many yards does this take in worsted weight? Thank you. 🌻
Kind of hard for me to determine that. How wide, how long and if you are a loose or tight knitter.
I would think one skein would be long enough in worsted weight.
For most of the scarves I make, I use 2 balls of sock weight yarn and it's just the right length for me.

Another question - is there a good way to carry up the color yarns your not using to hide it? I'm a new knitter so sorry for all the questions
In the video I switch between 2 colors and am carrying the colors up the edge. If you want to make it completely invisible, I would suggest working a 3 stitch icord border. That neatly tucks the working yarns into an icord tube. I appreciate all your questions and it helps me to know what videos I can do next! Looks like I need an icord border video!

Red Heart is perfect! One good size skein will make a scarf, and if you use two colors, the scarf will be as long as you want it!
How many balls of yarn did you use for a full scarf?
I used two different color zauberballs. I swapped colors every other row.
Is there a reason for the slip stitch?
I find a slipped stitch makes the edge look neater. It's personal preference really.
So to do a square you'd just increase on both sides until it was the diagonal width you wanted then decrease on both sides, right?

Which color of the Caron cakes and also the Hobby Lobby yarn (type and color) was the second example you showed?
The Caron Cake was Buttercream and the Hobby Lobby yarn is Yarn Bee Glowing. I don't remember the colorway and don't have the label any longer.
I tried this but must be too tight on my colour change because one side is shorter than the other after getting up to the right width. I’m not clear if it can be blocked as it has limited wool in the yarn mostly acrylic
Yup that is typically a sign that you are pulling that side tighter. With wool you can block it a bit, but acrylic really doesn't change much after trying to block it.
How to knit a square baby blanket using this method . Please tell I will be waiting for your reply
There are 3 parts to making this work. The first, part is to increase on one side every other row till the blanket is the width you want it to be.
2nd is where you switch to increase on one end and decrease on the other. Do this for how long you want the blanket.
3rd is finishing and you decrease on one side till you get back down to a couple of stitches.
On the scarf in the video, I made it scarf size, so not super wide, but super long. You'll need to adjust to whatever size you are making.

Any weight yarn would work. Just adjust your needle size to match. I've done them in sock weight and worsted weight.

How many stitches did you make on the first scarf ?
I don't remember exactly the number of stitches, but it was about 9-10" wide. So I just kept adding stitches until it felt wide enough, then I started the next phase of dec on one side and increase on the other.

How do you know when to increase and decrease so that it isn't uneven when you look at the scarf as a whole?
You work increases on both ends until you get to the width you want.....then phase 2 is increase on one end and decrease on other end, every other row....till scarf is long enough, then phase 3 is decrease on both ends till you get to the end.
So increases and decreases happen only on "right" side of fabric, then you knit back on "wrong" side.
By the way, I am a different person than the other Pat Wong. Interesting that we have almost the same kind of question.

Size 9, 5.5mm, Susan Bates that I got at the craft store. Michaels or Joanns.
I notice when I have knitted quite a long piece of the scarf, that the whole work has a gentle curve to it; the decrease edge is concave, the increase edge is convex. It's not hugely noticeable, but it's definitely there. I would say that if you were able to knit a scarf long enough, it would eventually form a circle, albeit a very large-diameter one! Any way to stop it...?
That sounds like a "tension" problem. Pulling too tight on a decrease can make that edge tighten up. So I'd suggest for a bunch of rows, think about that decrease and make sure you are "looser" in your stitch. After 10-20 rows, you won't have to think about it each row. If the curve is not too severe, it can be pinned and blocked at the end to help ease the curve.

Very hard but I will try again
I am having a huge amount of difficulty with the side that changes color. The slipped stitch edge I got, but I can't seem to get the hang of the side where we change color. Can anyone help?
What problem are you having? I slip the first stitch on that side, and then swap colors for the 2nd stitch.

The stitch on the side where I switch colors doesn't look the same size as the slipped stitch side. Is my tension off? I just can't figure it out
@@phoenixmarine974 Yes that can happen. You want to make sure you kind of loosen your grip on that first stitch. Pull it snug, but not tight.
Let me try this again. I really want to make this using my two colors. I primarily use Red Heart yarn, and I am using 9 circular needles.
@@phoenixmarine974 Yes I understand. On the side where you change from color 1 to color 2, you slip the first stitch, which will be old color. Then you use color 2 (new color) to start knitting on the 2nd stitch. You need to work a little cross of the two colors in the back where you pull the old color across and pull the new color up. This little cross will lock your colors and you won't have a hole where the two colors meet. You still have to be careful to not pull too tightly when making that cross in the back and starting color 2.
