Love that you gave Xena props! Watched Hercules when it aired along with Xena and fell in love with that show. So it will always be my first love but Buffy is right behind Xena. Everybody in college gathered in the commons room to watch Buffy all together :)

It's a shame Kevin Sorbo has turned into such a douchebag, but Lucy Lawless smacking him down on Twitter recently was pure gold!

Buffy truly helped me through my childhood and teen years. Im now in my 30s and still watch when i can. I cry i laugh and i get full giddy on fight scenes

That's awesome. I was 19 when Buffy started but the X-Men played that role for me in my early teens.

My feed isn't Buffy-centric, but it showed me the Joss one and I've now gone back and watched all the others!

I liked this a lot! I do have one factual quibble. You asked how Buffy was different from the episodic shows that "came before it". The Practice and Buffy both premiered in 1997. (In fact, Boston Legal was akin to The Practice: A spinoff featuring a favorite male lead, James Spader. "He NEEDS to call me."😉) Still, I appreciated this look at what made Buffy great, and look forward to more!!🌻♥️

True, but that kind of adds to the point, other shows being made at the same time were still being made in the episodic formula!

I mean - you sighed about fanfiction... but you left that spangel picture hanging there for a good long time 😂 Great video - hope there's lots more to come.

My problem with fanfic isn't the concept, its usually how badly its written! :-D #spangelforever

My understanding is that the network or the producers must campaign hard for Emmys. This includes taking out ads in trade publications as well as arranging screenings for Emmy voters. These campaigns are very expensive. So, basically, the network and the producers were not willing to spend the money. The ignorant "suits" wrote the show of as "kid stuff". Sometimes, I wonder if they ever watched an episode all the way through. OMG, how could Emmy voters NOT given awards to the all-musical episode or the episode with the funeral for Buffy's mother. Just another case of corporate cost-cutting gone wrong. There's a difference between less-expensive and CHEAP!
