Keep in mind this is not a random orbital sander just an orbital sander. It is aggressive and that's what I use it for is flatening seams on glue ups and edge grain cutting boards but I still have to work the grits with a ROS.
I have a RIGID shop vac with a 2.5" hose and RIGID makes Hose and Accessory Adapter Kit for RIDGID Wet/Dry Shop Vacuums that basically is 3 pieces. A couple for 2.5 to 2.5 but then it has two others that reduce down to a couple smaller sizes. I need these two for many of my tools including this sander such as pocket hole jig, routers and many others. It's $10 at Home Depot.
Yeah so far I haven't found anything to dislike except the lack of a dust bag but since I use shop vac 95% of the time sanding it's not a big deal for me.
I use the RIGID adapter home depot sells. It comes with 3 pieces and 2 of them are needed with this sander to get to the 2.5" rigid shop vac hose size.

Steve at J316 Woodworking recommended it to me. I don't have a belt sander nor a drum sander so a high powered orbital seemed like the next logical choice for me and it's worked so far pretty good on a few projects. I was leveling planter legs that got out of level with it the other day in no time.
I use a Rigid shop vac and their hose attachment accessories but have to use both reducers. It's a little bit awkward and takes some getting used to but is necessary as it otherwise puts out alot of dust and has no bag. www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-Hose-and-Accessory-Adapter-Kit-for-RIDGID-Wet-Dry-Shop-Vacuums-VT1755/202077239
@@joshmenendez3362 Your welcome. The one thing I would say about this sander is it's not Random, as far as I've read it's just an Orbital sander. Now with that it's 6amp. I got it to do end grain cutting boards, not done one since getting it, but I use it on anything that I need to take material relatively quickly or to flatten up some seams on glue ups. I essentially use it instead of purchasing a hand held belt sander is the best comparison I have right now. I've considered the RIGID 4am 6" Random Orbital Sander to have a more powerful ROS on hand just haven't pulled the trigger and I still don't think that would replace this DWE6401DS for what I use it for. I hope that helps. If have any other questions let me know and all in all I'm still extremely happy with the sander, still use it most projects, and I'd buy it again.
I am about to buy one of these this weekend since I stumbled upon a hell of a deal on a bunch of sycamore, walnut, and maple slabs. I was watching a fella on RUclips saying he always kept his slightly tilted when using it. Have you found you have to ride the edge, or are you able to use it flat?
Someone commented on here about riding the edge and that I am using it wrong BUT I can say I keep it flat. With that said it can be aggressive and I don't finish sand with it. I got it on recommendation from another woodworker to use flattening end grain cutting boards but have not made another however have flattened many glue ups with it and need to run it flat. If I rode the edge I'd start creating unevenness. Hope that helps!
Hi man thanks for the video, I just picked one today, but man that thing jumps like crazy, is that a normal thing or did I just got a bad one? What are your thoughts on that, thank you.
It definitely can be jumpy. I for sure hold it two hands with the added handle or holding the shop vac hose attached to it. Takes some getting used to but it can for sure take material off quickly.
@@4321Woodworking thanks for the answer man. Mine jumped wild even when I held it with two hands, looking at you, yours doesn’t seem to jumó that much, I might just swap it for another one.
@@4321Woodworking another question if you don’t mind, do you set the whole disk while sanding? Because that was one thing I couldn’t do with mine I had to go in an angle, thank you man!
@@cnich0168 - that grinder is NOT designed to be used flat on the wood. Meaning the disc is on the sanding surface FLAT. You need to slightly angle the sander. Go on you tube and type in the model number. Youll see vids on how to properly use the sander. Good luck.
Great, thank you for responce! I will be getting that!
Never seen this model just order a other orbit sander of dewalt this one looks great to damn

Wanted to see how to assemble it 😅
Excellent video.
Thanks I still love this sander for what it does but also love the new Cordless finishing sander I got recently!!
Nice review. New to the page. Keep it up!
Thanks, will do!
Just got one because of this review. Thanks brother!!
I still use it all the time, man it.takes off material quick.
Great video. I have been trying to decide which sander to buy. Now I know.
Glad I could help
do U need a special attachment for the shop vac?

Great job. Just what I needed, another tool to figure out how I can buy it.
I still love the sander, It's a beast and makes quick work of some jobs my regular ROS just didn't do fast, endgrain in particular.
Looks to be a really nice sander good review 👍

How can we connect to the shop vaccum. Where can I get this transition that you have in yours?
I use the RIGID adapter home depot sells. It comes with 3 pieces and 2 of them are needed with this sander to get to the 2.5" rigid shop vac hose size.
Great Review! Looking forward to seeing your end grain cutting board.
You and me both! Ha ha, I may finally need to get more lumber to start one. Be a real good test of the sander though.
I understand not being able to afford the drum sander. Thanks for the review. Keep the content coming.
All in time but for now this works well. Real test will be end grain cutting board but I need lumber first.
Did you get a hose adapter to catch the dust?

Great review Christopher. I've wanted one for while. Think you may have convinced me to get it. Thanks for sharing this with us.

How do u attach the vacuum?
RIGID makes a kit of adapters for tools, have to use a couple to get it to the right size and then I also put a little tape on to keep it snug fit.
Good review man - those cutting boards look nice too! I hope it helps with that end grain, it's tough to sand that's for sure.
It was recommended from a guy that uses it on end grain so we shall see, need lumber first here soon.
@@4321Woodworking Haha yeah, can't do any sanding without wood!
hello , i’m trying to find the vacuum attachment for this tool , do you have the name
I am just using the RIGID attachment set they sell at Home Depot. It's a kit of three different one's all together.
