One of the things that new players don't realize about early synchro format is that there just were not that many good extra deck cards back then. You played the monsters you could make with even the slightest amount of utility. Colossal fightee was used for the otk, to to be sure, but the main reason it was played is just that it was the biggest level 8 without downside. If you want to mention interaction, the fact that it could trade favorably with goyo is probably the biggest thing going for it. It might seem small, but the fact that thought ruler lost to goyo while colossal won against it is the big reason why colossal was in so many more decks. That being said, the main reason asw wasn't played is not because there were better monsters. In fact, I don't even think ancient fairy dragon was considered better than asw back then. Rather, it was just because most decks just didn't play light tuners. If it was generic, it would be an absolute staple, just as a win more finisher. Extra decks were not tight at all back then.
You should do one but only show them cards used exclusively in off-meta and anti-meta decks, like L1 Normal Monsters(Triangle Power), R10 Trains, Magical Explosion OTK, Marshmaloon Stall, Reversal Quiz OTK, Nurse Burn(Darklord Nurse Reficule), Mill(Needle Worm), Paleozoics(just all of them), Crooked Cook Lock
To the question about tuners who could change their level: Morphtronic Scopen existed, but of course it wasn't a major deck in the format or anything. To the question about Synchros that required other synchros: The original Majestic synchros existed.

As someone that no longer plays modern yugioh and has recently been playing a lot of tengu/edison/goat on duelingbook I'm hyped for this. This is a cool series idea looking at older formats to say if the cards are good.
I’ve played a lot of Edison, and to be completely honest I actually don’t know how much I like colossal fighter in the current game. It’s like, fine at best. Obviously the part of the card that reads crazy is that it functionally cannot be destroyed by battle, but Edison is a really high interaction format with an average boss monster size of about 2800, which means it’s super unlikely to ever get beaten over anyway, especially since someone can just activate d-prison. Which means the only thing it really has going for it is it’s first effect, gaining 100 attack for each warrior in the graves. The problem is that this only actually matters in certain match ups, and yeah, it usually matters when it matters but most of the time it doesn’t matter (I have no idea if that sentence made sense but I think you see what I’m trying to say). Like, best case senario it gets to 3500 right? That’s really big, but in Edison I never really feel like I actually *need* a really big guy. Like I said, most boss monsters in the game cap out at 28, with the majority being around 25, so really RDA is just better at clearing out big assholes. Sure, RDA comes with a lot of downsides, but those rarely actually come up, and most of the time you’re just gonna be using spell/trap based removal anyway so the chances of actually encountering a board that you HAVE to beat over to clear out is quite rare, unless you’ve built your deck poorly. In all, colossal fighter to me just seems kinda meh
@@TheOneJameYT Simultaneous Equation Cannons won a tournament but it's definitely hard to convince someone how good it is, sounds perfect for the job. Especially if it comes after a few cards with good effects but way too restrictive activation conditions to be good like Witch's Strike.

Apollousa, Accescode, Trigate, Unicorn or Griffin and I:P plus Shi En are always funny, when people absolutely don't expect it after starting with "Normal Summon Kageki - effect?". 😂

Ngl i didnt know ancient sacred wyver was even out during edison format. Its in a lot of decklist in tengu format but i thought it came out in 2011 lol.
How about a series where you teach MTG creators in Dueling Book? Start simple with Goat Format and see if they can figure out which cards are good, combos, interaction, etc. during the duel. Of course, teach the rules first.
Id say outside of Rookie and Bronze that Colossal Fighter card doesnt see alot of play but it is in a starter deck. I just moved into silver and I didnt see a single one on the way up there. Lol
And you won't see it in ranked. It's not even remotely playable in Master Duel. They're discussing Colossal Fighter in the 2010 format, not in Master Duel or Modern.
I am not kidding you, I lost to my opponent crashing Colossal Fighter over and over after I played the Maxx C. I didn't have that good of hand and had no outs to it.
video suggestion: Its this archetype good? you show the guest the 2-3 of the best cards of a archetype and the guest has to guess if the archetype was ever good. This would be kind fun if you choose cards like apoclifort towers, superquantal king great magnus or Evil Eye unleashed, crazy cards that may or may not be in good decks.
pretty sure lightsworn wouldn't play ASW back then since none of the lightsworn tuners would've existed back then and so they wouldn't have a light tuner

Hearing about the Colossal Fighter + Armory Arm OTK and that is very common makes me wonder why anyone plays Edison

Im pretty sure wyvern was played in the decks that can summon him, bc its just a otk line you could use. And extradecks were not as tight as today
