It was recorded in 2024, not 2023. Enjoy the video
I was about to say that, 2023 is a loooong ass time ago 😂
Wouldn't be a rarran video without an error and we wouldn't have it any other way. This is a great video as usual.
The way i was so confused when Malefic Rook appeared on screen lmao, like i was genuinely wondering if my brain was wrong and that it released in caverns of time instead
Love u rarran lmao thanks for the clarification

@@mikevanlieshout1624 read my comment again, but harder this time
This is such an underrated comment lmao
This "Rarran and friends" arc might unironically be one of the best things to ever happen to the CCG content community in recent years. The amount of new creators that are receiving exposure in what is a very welcoming environment while Rarran gets to geek out about card games with a bunch of different people is just magical (and yes, I don't play either YGO or HS, the content is just really fun)
Hard agree. The collab videos, now in hindsight, all feel like those individual marvel movies, and then we get these dual collabs that feel like the avengers-level movies where multiple characters crossover. Rarran's card game cinematic universe is one of the best things on yt for card games rn imo.
I think the best part is that Rarran's personality goes well with a variety of people. You wouldn't know it early on in his videos until you see his straight up rage clips, and now that he's become more accustomed to things, that is now channeled into stupid fun, hence the good vibes all his collabs give.
My guy, barfa and midtruetron isn't small creators.

One day, Rarran will not be known as "A Hearthstone CC" but, "That CC that every other card game player knows"
Nope. he only plays HS in any real capacity. Rarran is and always will be a hearthstone counterclaim.
@xbon1 what they're saying here is that even if you play say yugioh you'll know rarran
if you play magic you'll know rarran etc
It is actually pretty smart of Rarran. Even if Hearthstone becomes unplayable he can switch his content pretty seamlessly. I would argue Rarran is a card game content creator.^^
This raises an interesting idea. Could Rarran expand these types of videos to be cardgame agnostic?
As far as his talent as a host and content creator is concerned, I definitely see it as possible. Rarran can have comforable discussions with quests that have very different audience and understanding, and work as a bridge between them, Hearthstone and Rarrans own audience.
The issue is that it would be very hard to build an audience that was card game agnostic. Even if Rarran has done content about so many card games, all of these videos are still for Hearthstone audience.
The content can be roughly divided to two categories: evaluating Hearthstone cards and evaluating ”other games”. In both cases Rarran is the perspective of his audience.
When quests bring cards from ”other games” for Rarran to evaluate, the quests often start the explanation from very minimal knowledge. Then, when discussing the cards, the video spends a lot of runtime on Rarran talking about comparisons and differences to Hearthstone. Usually when the quest explains the correct answer, Rarran will re-explain it in a way that is more familiar to Hearthstone.
However when quests are asked to evaluate Hearthstone cards, they don’t do the reverse. Rarran gives the basic explanation of the game off-screen. And only briefly recaps it when necessary. If Rarran needs to give more context for quests it’s often cut. The quest don’t re-explain Rarrans correct answer in manner that makes sense to their own audience. Sometimes runtime is spend on a quick comparison to an iconic deck in some other game, or the quest saying ”oh, we have something kind of similar”. But that’s it.
I also like to watch the quests video featuring Rarran, and often they kind of flip the script. They sometimes make a more notable effort to introduce the visitors from Rarrans audience to their game, but the perspective is still an introduction to their game, not Hearthstone.
So: what would it mean for these videos to be card game agnostic? It is very hard to imagine it. Audience would necessarily need to be assumed to have some ”universal” knowledge. The perspectives of first time viewers and subcribers would also start to drift apart significantly. Over time, this would become a real obstacle for new viewers, or drag down the pasing of the videos for subcribers.
One radical answer would be creating something like UML en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unified_Modeling_Language for CCG’s, and making an effort to introduce new audience in it. UML is/was an attempt be a language agnostic representation of software. It was supposed to bridge the gap between java, C++, python and other object oriented languages. This way multi-language software could be designed and discussed by engineers that each only know one of the languages, but all know UML.
In reality, this didn’t usually work. Each programming language has unique, better ways for doing the same thing, and the abstracted representation of UML fails to actually capture some key aspects of each language.
The same would likely happen if one would try creating an UML for card games: sure, you could design a way to represent the unique aspects of each game through some abstract, shared consepts. But would the best Hearthstone deck in terms of that abstraction actually be any good? Probably not.
@@catcatcatcatcatcatcatcatcatca I suck at explaining things and getting my point across (doesn't help that I'm high atm) but this kinda reminds me theduellogs and his various channels on other card games. Rarran dying as they both trash talk Jandice Barov is why this content is my favorite.
So interesting to see outside perspectives
It's funny because I think they failed to absorb the fact that Jandice is a Rogue card as well and were purely thinking of her as a Mage drop. Most of their criticisms of Jandice did apply to the card in Mage, she didn't see much play in that class to my knowledge.
Rarran is doing wonders for the TCG community. I found him from a CGB collab and would have never watched Heartstone or Yugioh content if not for their collabs.

Repackage is kind of an unfair card to choose for them to decide because there is basically no control priest deck in the meta. The card might actually be more powerful but the meta has to support it to really find out.
Exactly
TBH all of the cards were based off of the meta that were around them. Repackage needs to make it to turn 7 to be played, and last I checked making it to turn 7 was a struggle in the current meta.

Okay, when the fuck was Jive ever better than Stranglethorn? Back during that expansion I saw heart hunters multiple times daily. I NEVER saw a shaman, let alone one using Jive, from Bronze to Legend. Is my match making just broken?
Big Beast Hunter was a good deck, but many of them ended up cutting the Heart, as a win more card.
Hes just wrong. Jive never saw play until recently for like a week and then got cut again from lists. Heart was in the best deck at the time
Yeah I'd have to agree on that. Whether they're going by "most played" or "strongest," Jive AFAIK was only ever played in the recent combo nature Shaman (which was only good for like a couple weeks maybe). Meanwhile Stranglethorn Heart has been played in multiple meta Hunter decks.
MtG creators in this format: "Teehee voxy you're a weasel :)"
Yugioh creators in this format: "I believe in racial purity."
Rarran is like Thanos of TGCs, collecting content creators from different games and making content with them. Loving it
It's always surprising to me how much Rarran's camera adds to these videos. Even with the mic silenced, there's this pure-visual "what the fuck are you on about m8" when he hears a guest say something flat-out wrong, or the silent cackle as someone says a tier-zero gamewrecker would never see play (or vice-versa). Like I haven't played Hearthstone since pre-Demon Hunter, I don't know how balance looks, but I love seeing those hints as to how the other pros are doing.
Today I learned about runic adornment
Stranglethorn Heart saw tons of play in the last few expansions and sees play rn in Reno Hunter. Jive Insect has always been a niche card that is only really OK in the decks that it sees play in.
This was the funniest and the most entertaining installment in the whole collab series
Now that Farfa mentioned it someone out there is gonna make a Custom Card called Rarran's Ram Ranch.
It definitely felt like MBT was operating with outdated information, as I believe the prevalence of silence as a keyword outside of Priest was changed after he left the game.
In both colabs, no one mentioned that with Jandice, if you get a really strong battlecry minion, you can choose it to die, but then shadowstep it.
These guys were genuinely hilarious together. Nice vid
19:29 Rarran: "Should I swap these two so the appendage is on the correct side? Nah, let's fuck with people!"
Edit: Suggestion - In the final segment, it would be nice to have a live score for each participant so we know how each one is doing.
idk I kinda like everything being revealed in the second section and being completely in the dark with them thru the first part.
Yeh I appreciated that it was more lax and less produced.
The colossals being in the wrong order was surprisingly upsetting
@@hugomendoza5665 That's where I mean, when he starts going over the cards again, that's when he should show the score (to the audience, not the participants).
I look forward to Rarran slowly becoming the defacto TCG/CCG game show host
So far the chaotic energy is off the charts and I'm loving it
Vid idea: A magic player and a hearthstone player rate Yugioh cards.
Where you and CGB or Voxy collab with a yugioh player to try to rate cards
I think you missed one of the biggest reasons why soul mirror is better than repackage, which is that you can cast soul mirror while you have minions on the board without removing them, while also adding the strength of your opponents board to your own. You can then trade your minions more favourably into theirs, get past taunts for lethal damage, etc.
But this is a really relevant thing for priest, i dont know i dont played at the time, this often happened in the time?
If theres one thing i know about MBT, hes an expert at gaslighting. My boy has got this
I love the "oh my god" so far into the video when finally one of the players got a card completely wrong. This is one of the funniest videos of this series yet.
Just throwin' my 2 cents in, but I think it's most satisfying to reveal the answer after each comparison than it is to hold out until the end!
I literally started watching these two pretty regularly after the whole yugioh fiasco so this feels like a pretty pog full circle moment.
What was the Yu Gi Oh fiasco?
Something else that got missed off Soul Mirror is how it interacts with rez effects.
When Soul Mirror causes trades, it adds those minions to the priest's rez pool as well, because they also had those minions on board (however briefly). This often could gain priests running rez effects for value instead of a combo additional potential value by adding high impact minions from the opponent into the rez pool while also removing said high impact minion. And if that high impact was a deathrattle, it also had immediate payoff.
That being said, Repackage has potential for exactly the reverse reasons. It cuts deathrattles, reborns, and rez hits for your opponent, but it also doesn't pollute the priest's rez pool with something that could be a big miss. Of course, comparing this card to Soul Mirror isn't quite right, because it's basically Psychic Scream with a tweaked end state. Psychic Scream was also a well played removal spell in priest, that also polluted your opponent's deck. Repackage is basically a strict downgrade because that pollution effect is downgraded by having it all in one card (though that card can be awkward to play if a big board went into it), instead of as individual cards that might screw up several draws instead of just one. This may be why Repackage sees less play, in that most decks that want it likely run Psychic Scream instead in Wild, and Standard currently doesn't have a meta conducive to that type of removal being needed in most matchups. I could see a Wild Reno style priest including Repackage along side Psychic Scream to effectively have the same effect twice, if that is the type of removal the deck needs, but otherwise it likely falls by the wayside in Wild. It might see play in standard if the game slows down a bit, and you don't die on turn 5 to aggro or get caught in a combo that had zero board the turn before it kills you.
Rarran, you consistently put out good content, but this might be one of the funniest videos I've ever seen on your channel. These guys bring on great energy and I'm really loving this format. 😂😂
About time you collabed with MBT.
After playing Yu-Gi-Oh a lot recently it's really cool to notice how Nadir and Joseph think, as an example when they were considering tavish they thought that you choose the beast that you summon with his effect, and not that it's a random beast that costs 1 less from the deck.
As a Yugioh, player, that’s exactly what I thought. It’s a lot worse then. I was imagining summoning a beast with charge so that beast can immediately attack and trigger Tavish again.
I love the videos like this. Also these guys are SO FUNNY please do more collabs with them. Just two suggestions though. I think it's more entertaining to tell them which card was better after each round rather than all at the ends. You did a similar video where you did that and I liked that aspect better because we got to hear the two players reflect on their analysis right away and also shit talk each other.
Also, if there's a tie at the end, do another round!!! No one likes ties. Sudden death match ftw. Either preplan to have 1 extra pair in case of a tie, or whip something up on the spot
I really agree with Rarran when he said it's really interesting to see the different ways of thinking between YGO and MtG players
The best I can describe it is that in YGO a card is near unplayable unless it gives immediate and consistent value, whereas in MtG the generally slower gameplay allows for more appreciation of value-based cards and along with the concept of curving out
Yeah, value in YGO primarily comes from recursiveness, which is why YGO players tend to (over)value eg. Reborn as a mechanic but not "Lose tempo now to gain value later" cards.
@@Rynjinivarbecause in ygo, there is no later. Quite a number of people dislike players that take it slow like stun and control players. They like doing combos that end on 4 negates and having hand traps to counter their opponents while not realising it's basically the same as having floodgates on the board. You make a board that denies the opponent. And as MBT has said in a different video, it's literally the same thing
@@HazeEmry This isn't an either/or thing. There's plenty of decks that end up with a bunch of points of targeted, non-negate interaction and a focus on recursivity. Recent examples include Branded (pre-Expulsion) and Sprights.
Having different types of interaction (pops, banishs, monster negates, spell negates, etc.) is a lot better at skill-testing a player than either having a board full of Omnis (which basically only require you to jam them at every effect, few decks can play through 4 omnis) or flipping Floodgates (whcih are an utterly binary mechanic; the opposing player either has "the out" or loses instantly).
Damn I love all these videos from each of you creators. I never thought I'd sub to Yugioh youtubers but Rarran you found a way! Also I was so happy when you collabed with CGB, fusing my love of MTG and Hearthstone!
Awesome video man! You should make this a tournament arc! Love all the collabs you do, and mbt is my favorite yugituber.
Farfa looking fresh in the traditional clothing
This trio is absolutely fantastic to watch
Thing I found most interesting was how insanely paranoid of Silence MBT was.
Edit - Racist Paladin was ALSO called Pure Paladin
Almost the same thing:p
Negates are huge in YGO. Infinite Impermanence and Effect Veiler both essentially read "Discard this card from your hand, Silence the opponent's monster" and the former is one of the most powerful cards in the game, and the latter was before Imperm powercrept it.
A well-timed negate is a game-ender in YGO because they're reactive (you can do them on your opponent's turn).
please keep these guessing things coming, they're so good!
I'd like to request telling them which is better as you go though, that's my favorite part of the video and I like it more when its sprinkled in rather that backloaded.
This collab gives me Fuelled By Sandwiches vibes and I'm loving it lmao. Banter and chaos go hand in hand
Dude these videos are so entertaining to watch. Keep em coming, they're awesome
This just came to my mind at the start of the video when MBT said "I got ...", but what if this versus format was like each player gets a card and has to decide between them if they want to trade it or not with the other and then who has the most better cards at the end wins, IDK just came to mind and I will finish the video now. Love these and love the channel!
Hi Rarran :) just an idea:
It might be cool to have 1 final card/pair of cards to show participants that would be "worth double" that you show after you've explained the previous cards & counted all the points to act as a tie breaker.
Could be a fun mind game to see how they evaluate the tie breaker card(s), considering all the next context they just recieved, could trip them up too lol
Either way, great video, is always fun to watch your content!
I feel like you've cracked the code on this style of video, rarran. The banter with this format is so good.
6:25 I think it would be better from a viewer's point of view if you would reveal the correct answer to them after they choose their anwser, rather than waiting with it till the end.

I never thought Id see these 3 on screen w/ each other but it makes so much sense
these two are extremely funny riffing off each other, i hope we get to see more of them featuringg in guest videos
You can go check out their individual channels/streams, all the big YGO personalities (primarily MBT, Cimo, and Farfa but a few others less frequently) basically spend as much time on each others' channels/streams as their own doing solo stuff.
Fucking hilarious video. Love all your collabs but this felt next level.
Spoiler:
My favorite part is when MBT and Farfa literally say. Oh there is some trollden video where you play a bunch of Jive insects in a single turn and kill the opponent. Describing the current use of Jive insects in nature shaman to a T where you play it on 3 of your minions after throwing 5 lightning bolts face dealing an extra 24 damage.
Then after describing how Hearthstone currently exists they then picked the 8 mana Hunter spell, which doesn't say "summon king krush(s)" like it's supposed to be good. I was dying of laughter.
As a Yu-Gi-Oh player myself. I guess they were just hopeful that the built in searching made it good enough 🤷♀️
Great video thank you R-Boy ! Keep it up!
Having neither of the two guests in the thumbnail when they are both this huge in the ygo sphere feels like an unusual miss for rarran
having more than 2 people in a thumbnail is actually bad for clickrates, statistically.
I absolutely love these videos, especially with 2 guests
Hell yeah! A one-hour Rarran video with guests!
The vibes of these vids are perfect keep improving brother
I really liked when you said the results as the game was going and explaining why they're better. I think that makes it more enjoyable
Awesome vid. Props to guests
Bet it’s nice from going from reading a paragraph on modern Yu-Gi-Oh cards to reading a sentence on Hearthstone cards for those players.
As a yugioh player no it’s absolutely horrible you go from reading text to not reading text and you still don’t understand it.
That's my secret cap, I never read
Nah but seriously because then I have to replace the text of the keyword for the text of what it actually does in my head instead of just reading it, it's actually just worse, (thank God for digital sims, like, it's still worse than just having the text right there on the card but having the pop up is good enough)
Commenting on my guesses as both a MtG and Yugioh player (haven't played Hearthstone since like the third expansion):
1. Malefic Rook - a 5/6 on turn seems nice. Plus, IIRC, warlock has stuff to reward being at low health?
2. Void Scripture - 2 mana to get effectively two cards, that are better than average (assuming this isn't going to be cast until turn 8)? Seems crazy good.
3. Jive Insect - Mainly because Stranglehorn Heart just doesn't seem good. 8 mana, but cycle 1 to revive a narrow range of good stuff? Cycle 1 is nice to offset it, but unless hunter decided to become priest in his free time, I can't imagine this ever being good. Like, I need big beasts to be out, and even then, I don't know if I cast this on 8? Why not replace this card with something that actually does something before you are dead.
4. Illuminate: Aquatic form looks like a trap. Yes its 0 mana, but its not like pot of duality, since its basically just putting it to the top of deck until maybe turn 5 or 6. Why do I want a dead card in my hand for the valuable early turns? Illuminate on the other hand, just seems broken in slow controlly decks.
5. Blackwater Behemoth: Stabilizes instantly, even if your opponent has a boardwipe, since you both heal and destroy an opponents monster. Meanwhile Colaque does nothing at first, and if your opponent has non-targeting non-damaging removal, or two pieces of removal, then tough luck, you didn't do anything.
6. Northshire Farmer - Now, see, this seems like a really good aggro card for the beast stuff. You play a 1 drop beast and a 2 drop beast, then play this, and blamo, you got 3 3/3s in your deck with maybe outsized effects because of it. Exactly what we want in our aggro decks
7. Tavish Stormpike - Seems crazy in the deck I described above. Start with a 1 drop beast and attack. Then play a 2 drop beast and attack. Then, on 3, drop this, attack with your two guys, and get a 1 drop. Opponent will struggle to stabilize.
8. High Exarch Yrel: I want my 8 drop to stabalize me, and she does that. Also, if I'm ahead, she can close out the game. Meanwhile, Ghun says "win the game if you are ahead, otherwise do nothing" I want my 8 drops to win me the game if I'm behind.
9. Jandice Borov: This card seems crazy. I get 2 random 5 drops, with the downside being that I choose one to "only" be good in for one minion attack? Like, your opponent needs to either lose 2 cheap minions to test my minions, or my "fake" 5 drop gets good value? Also, some 5 drops get good value without surviving (eg: Jandice herself). I would be shocked if she wasn't crazy good in standard. Plus, the other dude doesn't seem like he is doing anything for a while. So, I need the game to go to a few more turns after I summon him. But then, either I'm against an aggro deck, in which case I lost, or I'm against control, and hey, look, priest plays that big healy guy. And oh no, so sad, I lost my slow as fuck 5 drop.
10. Repackage - Both are board wipes, but soul mirror doesn't work against protection, and could trigger deathrattles too. And, sometimes it fails to remove, since the toughness could be higher than the attack.
Welp, lets see how well I did.
Edit: 7/10. Not terrible I suppose XD
At this point the only collaboration missing iss rarran having the proffessor as a guest
One of the best things about Soul Mirror also was the fact you could rather easily Discover it from multiple sources. I remember that being super frustrating, with Priests getting to use this "one copy of a Legendary card" like 2-3 times, and sometimes even 4 or 5.
Giggly Rarran feels like that one friend you go grab a beer with after a hard day's work, laugh about the dumbest random bullshit for an hour or two and go home feeling de-stressed after.
13:54 theres mark, he still does the Combo videos
Love this kind of video, these guys were hilarious too!
YAY! My favourite YGO RUclipsr Rarran back with another banger video.
As soon as I saw both these guys in a call already knew it was gonna be a banger 😂
I’m so mad about how the Colossal minions are displayed on screen, my beans are so steamed dude, you did that on purpose!!! 😂
