That year I got into competetive. Brought the CyDra Structure to my first ever event, played against a Ritual Beast player some way through and fell in love with the deck immediately. Been on that RB copium ever since.
I know Josh was talking about post Djinn Ban being a Time Wizard contender, but personally, i think Post DCOS, Pre November Ban List might be the Format worth going back to. SO many strategies were viable without being too overpowered or unfair. -Kozmo -Nekroz -BA -Clownblade -Shaddolls -Qli -RB -Infernoid -Pendulums -Rank 4 Toolbox -Minerva Lightsworn -D/D/D -Heroes ....and so many more. Plus: Kaijus were readily available and I think people weren't utilizing them well enough at the time. Pendulum existed and were strong but didn't have Monkeyboard, Joker, and Sorc yet. Nekroz, Shadoll, and BA weren't buried yet. I think it goes overlooked cus the November list came so fast and turned the entire game into chaos with full power pepe on the horizon. The only problematic part of this format I can see is Vanity's is still at 1, but is manageable. And the reason I mention the Minervasworn as an option is with the benefit of the passage of time, Minerva is now insanely cheap and lets this format explore her inclusion of the format without breaking the bank. I really feel like we should give the 6 day Nov 3 - Nov 9th format another look.
Isnt that literally the clown format technically? I think Josh would agree on the same format, we all generally mean the same time more or less. Just before the murder banlist that killed everything.
I agree it's worth exploring, probably one of the least-played formats in yugioh history, existed for less than a week. I'm less convinced that it's better or more fun than the just-before-DOCS format though, since it has plushfire, kirin and the rest of the majespecters, dark destroyer, odd-eyes vortex dragon, and gameciel. rank 4 spam gets a lot easier, pendulums have plushfire and kirin, and the combination of majespecters and dark destroyer in the format pushes out any targeting-reliant removal. then again, without the banlist, nekroz/BA/dolls probably do enough to keep things from getting too bad? Worth exploring for sure.
I definitively agree. A lot of diversity and playability. Gamma and Kaijus are in the format, Maxx C and Chicken Game as well, 1 Vanity's Emptiness and 1 Soul Charge still around... yeah, I wish the community makes it as big as HAT or Edison
Double Djinn definitely wasn't cheating (at least at the time), but imagine doing something so blatantly unfair to try and win a children's card game. Hoban is a skilled player, but I still can't take him seriously after that. At least the memes were good lol
we need time wizard for format after djinn banned but before kosmo second wave. The format was pretty fun ngl. Edit: Nvm josh already mentioned it too, agree 100%. format kinda underrated atm, even HAT format is more popular iirc.
I'm surprised there wasnt much talk about Denko Sekka in the Nekroz format. You could say it was a highly skilled matched of Trap BA vs Nekroz. But you could just NS Denko and roll over your opponent and stall the game out till you draw Denko and feel safe. Nekroz was and is still cringe, imo I still liked the format tho. Though it did feel bad that any T2-3 deck would need to think ahead of opponent with Mind Crush to fizzle a Ritual Summon
I think it's not ideal, but you could find a way to access Farfa and activate your traps if they're still useful that point in time. But that's pretty much the biggest problem BA has,not having access to non-backrow permanent removal makes the deck so much worse against floodgates like Denko Sekka
Part of the problem Nekroz had against Kozmo was that Valk couldn't stop their pushes as any of the Psychics could tag out into a bigger monster to dodge his effect and the BP would continue (and Kozmo was very good at pulling off OTKs with the right hands). The ships were also annoying to get rid of as aside from Trishula's removal effect, they were too big to beat up with your usual monsters (you basically needed Decisive to get over any of them) and alot of the Extra Deck options Nekroz had at the time used Targeted removal. Even if you did out a ship, they'd either float into another one, or the Kozmo player would get them back. I don't remember how the matchup went from back then, but I remember it being alot closer than people think. Maybe if the format had went on as it was Nekroz players would have figured out how to deal with Kozmo better but the banlist put an end to that.
Can we collectively bring attention on this format (post djin lock nekroz) as a new time wizard candidate? I still think it was one of the best periods in the history of yugioh
104:50 it just came to my mind, dont know if it was a thing, but mind crush could be used as a "discard trap" in BA where you could chain it to trish calling a card your opponent doesnt have so you wuold gain hand knowledge and dodge the trish
Yes and no. In that situation you can just call Trish and you discard it. And if you guess wrong that they didnt have Trish and went for Valk you'd be behind in value as they dig for the counter cards. (Usually Denko, see later all the decks had 3 Denko in the side for these sloggy grind games)
@@freezingcicada6852 i was thinking to chain to trish eff as this would mean that trish eff couldnt be used again as well the card in hand you would discard could be some ba etc, but yeah, make sense
october 2015 is a top 3 all time favorite format for me. trying to build it irl. djinn lock banned, norden legal, psyframe omega and speedroid terrortop legal. all the decks from the past year still viable (nekroz, shaddoll, burning abyss, satellar, ritual beast, infernoid, qli, hero).
Hi , my first big tournament yugioh is national CDF YGO a 2015, i am playing nekroz with shooting star dragon combo. 😁. I miss few cards 1 x brionac nekroz, 3 x valkyrie nekroz , because i am étudiant Cap jewelery in this périod. But i make good Top all the sam. The combo for summon shooting star dragon with nekroz deck is: Use nekroz kaleidoscope, put quazar dragon in graveyard and summon two nekroz brionac in my hand , and xyz rank 6 inzktor, use effect equip quazar dragon on inzektor xyz , and detach matériel xyz and send quazar in board to the graveyard and destroy 1 card board adverse, for use quazar dragon effect to spécial summon shooting star dragon a ignore condition invocation. Congratulations for your performance a great tournament yugioh and Win , you are wonderfull champion. You contain RUclips channel is awesome. I wish you good day , God bless you , and meet you next year in wcq or ycs YGO certainly. Cordialement Daniel LOUIS.
Goyo Guardian's erratum kind of sucks, especially how it played out, but you have to admit that Goyo Guardian on release was an absurd card. Generic Level 6 Synchro, highest ATK stat among them (even eclipsing all Level 7 and most Level 8 Synchros of the time), and an effect that can win you games on its own? One can argue that this card should never have been printed this way. That also was a break with a design philosophy they seemed to have had before printing Goyo Guardian and to which they have stuck since: the monster of a Level/Rank/Link-rating with exceptionally high stats is a vanilla unless it has a downside (such as being non-generic and very hard to summon, or a restricting effect). Blue-Eyes White Dragon, Gem-Knight Pearl, Gaia Saber are all examples of this and while it never really mattered competitively it seems fair and fine as far as game design is concerned. It did matter, however, that Goyo Guardian was available to basically every deck at the time while being big enough to beat over, and thereby steal, almost everything else.
Nekroz is my favorite archetype of all time. I wasn't playing the game when they were meta and only picked them up after the cards started to get unbanned, but they were such an interesting way to make my favorite summoning mechanic of all time playable to some extent. I even made an MMO character based of shurit and nekroz of trishula and I can't help from bringing out the deck in MD on occasion
Boomer me remembers watching a deck profile from Dzeef and he was the one who coined the term in his video showing what Brillant fusion did in shinobirds iirc
i remember wc 2015 because of the german guy that went there with a harpy list. the idea was that the meta could get very backrow heavy in which harpies would explode. but he instantly died to nekroz what makes this so cool for me was that i won a custom banlist community tournament on devpro with harpies
I love this year. I played almost every deck. I never actually played shaddoll at that moment but I liked. My favourites, though, are ritual beast and nekroz.
This was a good watch for getting into finish line format. Finish line being in that 3 day gap between DOCS and the following banlist. I remember the banlist at the end of 2015. Cause my friend bought an exciton knight. Earlier that week, the list dropped only to find out it got banned.
Bro really skipped all the ARG events that were dictating entire metagames since like 2013... But decided it was worthwhile to bring them up to talk about the Djinn incident... are u serious?
1) original insights from somebody who experienced and played at the top competitive levels at the time 2) Free PR for the original create the law 3) not everybody is on Twitch/ knows where to find the specific vod on twitch
So, Kozmo had a solid to good match up against Nekroz. Unicore wasn't a problem as you rarely (if ever) used the extra deck and you could comfortably force an OTK thru Valk thanks to the pilots tag out ability. Trishula was the only real answer they had for the big ships too.
It is not even that good of an answer because kozmos banished pile is also a toolbox thanks to strawman and kozmotown. So yeah trish is a power play but if the nekroz player doesnt win the turn he invest in a trish play he will have problems the following turns.
Check out the goat ruclips.net/user/thelawygo who made this amazing Video!
You have to take a look at his video on the GX manga. So many amazing cards for the time originated from that one manga series.
What’s your opinion on floodgates? Josh
Interesting how josh prewatches all these vids and remembers every moment, it's like that he played during the formats ^^
