Hey Hey look at that, my favorite band and one of their best songs. Zeppelin gets a lot of love for their hard rock, but I've always thought Plant truly shines in some of their traditional/folky tunes. Songs like Going to California or Battle of Evermore are just something else when paired with that voice.
    Great job Bruce!

I just realized that I changed the structure of the song - some would say “got it wrong” and I said so myself when I first realized it , but then I said, oh hell I’m just trying to get a nice sound out of the instrument and I can bend my interpretation a little bit to showcase the harmonics that the instrument can produce. But I repeated the main verse line four times instead of three which makes it drag on a little. This was just my first try - it came into my head earlier in the day and of course I’ve heard it so many thousands of times, it’s not about figuring out how the song goes, it’s about how to morph the essence of it - what the mind is hearing - into a viable piano interpretation that can stand on its own with or without accompaniment by other instruments. I don’t even think about it, this is how it just comes out.

I'm working out my own version of this song on violin. There actually isn't much to the melody, which is mostly bits of scales and broken chords, so I feel like the real meat of the song is the lush harmonic possibilities and the beautiful lyrics that lend themselves to interpretive flourishes that Plant has sung a variety of ways over the years. This is a beautiful rendition and refreshing to hear a cover that isn't taking everything so literally.

@@ffsrsw I so much would love to work with a violin player. In high school, I compose the string Quartet that our school performed around the Boston area at different schools, and it even won an award. Here is the most beautiful violin part in any rock song, I know of. I added the piano part. ruclips.net/video/S-nflp1p6YQ/видео.html

@@brucemcdonald2503 I was able to work something up inspired largely by the mandolin parts from the album version and from a couple of live versions. I'm really proud of my work, but people haven't been recognizing the song. So, I'm not sure what to do about that! Nice to return to your version again, though.
