    Watching your videos, I've learned so much about how important color is to the effect of realism. Furthmore, with regards to amount of detail, sometimes the general is better than the specific for tricking our eye into believing what we're seeing. Thanks for another great video! I learn so much from them.

    • @jeffm3283
      @jeffm3283 2 года назад +1

      Yeah it's quite the phenomenon in painting, where less detail is actually good. Goya and Sargeant were great at executing on this, off the top of my head.

      You should try just buying one small brush and one color of paint, and fill up a notebook with quick paintings. Then add more colors in the second book.

    Omg that ending is SO cool! James, I’ve purchased nearly all your Gumroad classes and can appreciate that it’s a ton of work to edit and voice over videos. Would you ever be open to selling unedited, raw footages of the 1-3 minute videos that are on your channel? I personally enjoy the ‘ASMR’ aspect (no voice over, assuming that’s a tedious bit to do) and would certainly purchase the raw vid. Sort of similar to the oil painting techniques videos you made in the past!
    As always, thanks for all that you do 😊

    I just found your channel. Thank you for sharing your process.
    The special effects aren't really necessary and if they slow you down then I wouldn't worry about them. Personally I'm more interested in seeing how you paint.
    A lot of gouache paintings have a fantasy world feel. I see that you capture colors realistically, but it would be interesting to see you paint a modern location such as this with bold fantasy world colors.

    Hey James! I learn so much from watching your plein air demos. Just wondering if you could do one using gouache where you paint picket fence, arbour and especially lattice structure? Have no clue how to tackle those tiny diagonal or square holes! And if you could talk about colour temperature when painting white structures in the shade. Hope these requests make sense!

    There is something about gouache like... The way it looks, the opaqueness, the rawness and roughness is so appealing to the eye. Your paintings reminds me of Kazuo Oga's works, because of that same reason. And if i remember correctly, they were using something similar to the gouache too. I hope i will reach to your level in near future.

    Amazing. Thanks for another video. I’m about to head out for another long term international trip. In addition to white what colors would be in your luggage? This would be gouache. Last year I did only tool Windsor and Newton primary set of white, red, blue, yellow and black. Thinking of adding burnt umber, yellow ochre, and maybe orange. What one green would you add? Any other colors you would want? Thanks!!!

    Hi James..today I tried applied Dorlands wax one coat over my blue background...then applied another colour yellow...I noticed that however I rubbed the yellow with water I didn't smudge with blue and wax accepted gouache as it is...it's beautiful and useful...that means I could apply a layer of gouache without messing up with underneath layer? Is this real? Please comment. I usually use Dorlands wax for final varnish of my watercolour and Gouache.

    Question :
    How many times do you let the paint dry before adding another layer? Or do you just paint the entire piece in one shot
    Many thanks in advance

    • @JamesGurney
      @JamesGurney  2 года назад +3

      With gouache, it dries in a couple minutes, so overlapping strokes are no problem.

    • @tthomas184

      @@JamesGurney Alternate question : I know you don't do a lot of blending in your sketches but if you had to blend dry paint that you had already laid down what would your approach be ? Would you re-wet it, or put more paint down on top? I've sometimes very lightly misted the section, but that can be problematic. And using a wet brush will often lift the paint.
