Such an underrated muse song, dark, heavy and actually decent lyrics! Nice reaction. By the way the 2004 live version at the Wiltern is amazing, he's not dancing on stage or crowd surfing but the musicianship is spot on!
I don't think it's underrated at all. At least not from people who actually know Muse back catalogue.
@@GT.Bugger well that’s the thing. I’ve seen Muse a number of times now and have heard this song live once, but I don’t expect to ever hear it again, unfortunately.
@@paddington2063 it's an old song. It was never really used in circulation to begin with. Having said that some songs that have been in constant circulation are old also. Not sure that's what determines if a song is underrated though.
It really is haunting...doomsday feel. Wish you would've reacted to the Wilter live version...absolute gold
I've always loved the lyrics and "impending" death. "And we'll pray that there's no God to punish us"
Always seemed clever about praying at the time of death that there isn't a God.
As much as Matt gets the lions share of Muse's attention for his voice and guitar work (and don't get me wrong..he is very impressive) it's Chris Wolstenholme's bass that really makes the band for me. Whether it's the overt bass lines of Hysteria or Thoughts of a Dying Atheist or his subtle but brilliant playing on The Globalist or Animals, he is for me one of the greatest and underappreciated bass players of the modern era....so much so that at every Muse show I've attended (and there are many) I will plant myself on the right hand side of the stage where he mostly anchors himself and fanboy out....yeah I definitely have a bass crush if you can't tell..LOL!!!
you know the one who wrote hysteria's bass line was Matt, Matt really is the heart of MUSe
Matt is the king of guitar arpeggios! He loves using them, verse and chorus on some songs!
Great reaction, DH! This is yet another great bonus track by this band. How it didn't make it on a 'main' album mystifies me.
matt wanted it to be an official song in the album
They voted and The Small Print won. Matt preferred Fury but... 😅
That sound was haunting (in a good way). Not a song I would usually listen to, but I liked it. I nailed it with an 8.5 as well 😀
Btw DH, been meaning to tell you this for a while…
You know instead of using your mouse to pause (which for some reason gives me anxiety as I see your cursor slowly move over to the pause button to interrupt a good part lol), you can just use the space bar on your keyboard to play/pause.
And the back arrow key to go back few seconds…which, btw you still need to do more often bc we the fan base sometimes forget where we are in the song too when you comment during it!
Friendly tip! Another great review
I love the backing vocals in the last chorus. Really adds to the tracks magic!
Fury is just like you said haunting it's a song about guilt and knowing if there's a god we're all sinners and wondering what's waiting for us on the other side.
Once again proving that youbgo for those underrated songs that even muse fans skip, good to have muse back in your channel hopefully we get to see more soon! Great episode!!
you'd have to be a lunatic to skip fury
A bside for most folk. Love this song live. Impending doom is probably what you were thinking of. Kinda how we're living just now.
Always amazes me some of the versions people send in for you to review when there are videos that are far superior like the performance of this song during the kid's cancer charity concert.
my favorite performance of Fury is from Montreux Jazz Festival in 2016, because Christ's bass is more prominent and Matt's mature voice gives this song a revitalized edge
Miss you reacting to Muse. I think 8.5 is really good score. I totally agree with you. Hope you have a great day 🤘❤️
Great song from a great era in Muse's career.
this B-side song, very good for a b-side
One of my favorite song of muse, thanks for this react, i don't understand the instruction for one request (sorry i'm french😅😅🤣) but i like hyper music and hyperchondriac music same song two universe 😉
Glad you liked it. It was good to hear what you think.
Did you pick up on Matts haunting falsetto in the back ground of the final chorus?
I've been playing this song a lot recently, one of my favorite muse. Also 'Dead star' another old one I'd overlooked, worth a listen if you've not done that yet.
I hear uncertainty and fear. Picture yourself spinning in circles trying to figure out which threat to focus to take on first. Feeling surrounded by and haunted by your past demons.
If the Kings win the Cup again, that means the Rangers didn't, so I'd be okay with it!
Oh, and nice review! This track was somehow omitted from the album Absolution, but the band occasionally plays it live, and it never disappoints.
I will say, I requested a live version, and I am in no way complaining, but I am curious what makes you choose between different requests of the same song? (again, I am totally satisfied with this review, and I am in no way complaining)
Edit: I see in the message now that my request was not first, so you went with the first link. There, I answered my own question!
Great song, I hope you heard it in some semblance of good quality on your end, cuz it sounds extra crushed (like BAD mp3 or transcoding artifacts).
This is me just wanting you to hear the best quality version of the song, not trying to whine 🐽
At this point I’d be curious to know if Muse has the highest overall avg score over the other bands you cover regularly…
are consistent, I think there was only one song below 8.
True, and I think that sub-8 song was actually Plug in Baby 😄
Never thought of that. Need to look at his spreadsheets. 😄
@@joewuensch7173 I can see why, but I f*cking love Plug in Baby
The word you’re looking for is Absolution 😉
Good
pretty good for a B side
Voivod... nothing face, into my hypercube, jack luminous.
IMO it's about guilt. "Pray that there is no god" when you're dying means basically you've done some shit. 8.5 for a B-side isn't bad!
Reaction to Red Velvet - Wildside
I think the word might be "malaise", rather than impending doom??
