- The Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque (Arabic: جَامِع ٱلشَّيْخ زَايِد ٱلْكَبِيْر, romanized: Jāmiʿ Ash-Shaykh Zāyid Al-Kabīr) is located in Abu Dhabi, the capital city of the United Arab Emirates.[1] The largest mosque in the country, it is the key place of worship for daily prayers. A smaller replica of the grand mosque exists in the Indonesian city of Surakarta.[2]

The Grand Mosque was constructed between 1994 and 2007 and was inaugurated in December 2007.[3] The building complex measures approximately 290 by 420 m (950 by 1,380 ft), covering an area of more than 12 hectares (30 acres), excluding exterior landscaping and vehicle parking. The main axis of the building is rotated about 12° south of true west, aligning it in the direction of the Kaaba in Mecca, Saudi Arabia.
The project was launched by the late president of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, who wanted to establish a structure that would unite the cultural diversity of the Islamic world with the historical and modern values of architecture and art.[4] In 2004, Sheikh Zayed died and was buried in the courtyard of the mosque.
Sheikh Zayed Grand Mosque Center (SZGMC) offices are located in the west minarets. SZGMC manages the day-to-day operations and serves as a center of learning and discovery through its educational cultural activities and visitor programs. The library, located in the northeast minaret, serves the community with classic books and publications addressing a range of Islamic subjects: sciences, civilization, calligraphy, the arts, and coins, including some rare publications. The collection comprises material in a broad range of languages, including Arabic, English, French, Italian, Spanish, German, and Korean. For two years running, it was voted the world's second favourite landmark by TripAdvisor.[5]
শেখ জায়েদ মসজিদ: বিশ্বের অন্যতম নান্দনিক স্থাপত্য শেখ জায়েদ মসজিদ। সংযুক্ত আরব আমিরাতের রাজধানী আবুধাবির অন্যতম আকর্ষণ। প্রতিবছর লাখ লাখ মানুষ আবুধাবিতে যান এই মসজিদটি দেখতে। এতো মানুষ মসজিদটি দেখতে ভিড় জমালেও, শেখ জায়েদ মসজিদে রয়েছে এক ধরনের প্রশান্তি আর অদ্ভুত নীরবতা।
সংযুক্ত আরব আমিরাতের বৃহত্তম এবং সবচেয়ে নান্দনিক এই মসজিদটি পর্যটকদের হতাশ করে না মোটেই। সারাবিশ্বের পর্যটকদের কাছে এটি কতোটা জনপ্রিয়, তার প্রমাণ ছোট একটি পরিসংখ্যান। শুধুমাত্র ২০১৯ সালের প্রথম ছয় মাসেই প্রায় চল্লিশ লাখ দর্শক এটি দেখে গেছেন। ২০১৮ সালে ভ্রমণ বিষয়ক ওয়েবসাইট ট্রিপ এডভাইজারের করা র্যাংকিংয়ে তৃতীয় জনপ্রিয় স্থাপনা হিসাবে উঠে আসে মসজিদটির নাম।
আবুধাবির জাঁকজমকপূর্ণ এই মসজিদটি তৈরির কাজ শুরু হয় ১৯৯৬ সালে। প্রায় ৫৪৫ মিলিয়ন ডলার এবং ১২ বছর সময় লাগে এর কাজ শেষ করতে। বর্তমান বিশ্বের তৃতীয় বৃহত্তম এই মসজিদটির আয়তন ২২ হাজার ৪১২ বর্গমিটার। যা প্রায় চারটি ফুটবল মাঠের সমান।
একসঙ্গে এই মসজিদে প্রায় ৪০ হাজার মানুষ নামাজ পরতে পারেন। এছাড়াও বৃহত্তম হাতে বোনা কার্পেট, বৃহত্তম ঝাড়বাতি এবং বৃহত্তম গম্বুজের গিনেস ওয়ার্ল্ড রেকর্ডসে রয়েছে এই মসজিদের নামে।
শেখ জায়েদ মসজিদের সৌন্দর্য দেখে যে কারও মুখ হা হয়ে যাবে এটি নিশ্চিত। ৮২টি সাদা মার্বেলের গম্বুজ, বাইরের ১ হাজার ৯৬টি কলাম, ভেতরের ৯৬টি মণি খচিত কলাম এবং ৭টি ২৪ ক্যারেট স্বর্ণ খচিত ঝাড়বাতি আপনাকে বাধ্য করবে এর সৌন্দর্যের প্রেমে পড়তে।
বিশ্বমানের ৩৮টি প্রতিষ্ঠানের প্রায় ৩ হাজার কর্মী এই মসজিদটি তৈরিতে কাজ করেছেন।
সংযুক্ত আরব আমিরাতের প্রথম রাষ্ট্রপতি প্রয়াত শেখ জায়েদ বিন সুলতান আল নাহিয়ানের নামানুসারেই এই মসজিদটির নামকরণ করা হয়েছে। তিনিই এই মসজিদ করার পরিকল্পনা করেছিলেন।
এই মসজিদ নির্মাণের স্থাপত্য বিষয়ক নির্দেশনা তারই ছিলো। তিনি তার সমাধি এই মসজিদে করার ইচ্ছা পোষণ করেন। ২০০৪ সালে তিনি মারা গেলে মসজিদ চত্বরে তাকে সমাহিত করা হয়।
দর্শনীয় এই মসজিদটির স্থপতি ইউসুফ আবদেলকি। তিনি সিরিয়ার নাগরিক। পারস্য, মোঘল এবং মরিশ স্থাপত্যশৈলী থেকে অনুপ্রাণিত হয়ে তিনি এই নকশা করেন।
ব্রিটিশ শিল্পী ও চিত্রকর কেভিন ডিন মসজিদের ভেতরের ফুলের নকশাগুলি করেছিলেন। একে তিনি জীবন বদলে দেওয়া অভিজ্ঞতা হিসাবে বর্ণনা করেছেন।
মসজিদটি দেখার জন্য কোনো টিকিট কাটতে হয় না। প্রতিদিন সকাল ৯টা থেকে রাত ১০টা পর্যন্ত দর্শনার্থীদের জন্য এটি খোলা থাকে। রাত ৯টার পরে আর কোনো দর্শনার্থী প্রবেশ করতে পারেন না। এই সময়সূচীর ব্যতিক্রম হয় শুধু শুক্রবারে। শুক্রবারে জুমার নামাজের দিকে খেয়াল রেখে এদিন দর্শনার্থীদের প্রবেশ করতে দেওয়া হয় বিকাল সাড়ে চারটা থেকে।
কোনো প্রকার ফি ছাড়াই একজন গাইড আপনাকে ঘুড়িয়ে দেখাবেন এই মসজিদটি।
