    Yeah man, now I see you have over 4k subs! Well, a belated congratulations! I should have noticed, because you're one of my favorite channels besides "analog planet" and others! There's very few that know their onions you and fremer are among those few!

    Always something to learn from your videos Ron which are always excellent. It is getting harder and more expensive to find these amazing recordings, especially in Australia mate. I hate the digital world but it has enabled all of us to find more world music and to watch excellent videos such as yours. 👍👍👍

    hi ron great vid. very helpful on what pressing to get instead of going through several pressings blindly which is very costly, time consuming and most of ghe time frustrating. cheers.

    As far as I’ve read, anything mastered at Capital includes a digital step, regardless of what the source is. It’s been like this a long time, so the 2009 records you mentioned would be included. Steve Hoffman has noted this on his forum numerous times... this is the reference I could find (his post is about four-fifths of the way down the page, and the date is Sept 9):
    forums.stevehoffman.tv/threads/new-capitol-vinyl-from-the-vaults-series.158982/page-8#post-3776833
    While an LP can still sound good if the mastering includes a digital step, I tend to avoid anything done by Capitol if other options exist.

    I MUCH prefer the tape for cutting the records, much! Sometimes they can't get the tapes, that's where I wish they would at "least" cut it from 96k 24 if they "have to" cut it from digital! Records are about audio information (resolution)! But no matter how high the resolution in digital, it STILL lacks something, but it's a lot better than 44k 16!

    Hey Ron. When was "Friday Music" first an actual record label? :) Is that name on all record labels or just certain ones? :) Which ones? :)

    Good follow up to the Friday music video. I wondered too if there were some differences as well in the original first pressing in different parts of the world, meaning say, an original first pressing in the USA compared to say, Canada vs. say UK, Japan, Amsterdam, and elsewhere. A lot of people have said Japan (and other imports) usually had the best pressings, however, I've had some that were not, meaning some had surface noise, some were warped (which isn't sound, but quality control), etc. At any rate, I guess that's just part and parcel to vinyl collecting. Yeah, Bridge of Sigh is a good one for sure, my favorite by Trower. One of the Yes albums I couldn't get into for so long was Tales from Topographical Oceans, but a YTber mentioned the album, and I went back to re-listen closer to it, and yeah, appreciate much more now.

    Hello Ron, I bought the Boston album on Friday Music a few years ago based on your opinion on it. I'm a very happy customer, so thank you! Then I went on and bought Yes' Going for the One on Friday Music as well (blue vinyl). Unfortunately, I have to report that it's unlistenable. The sound is terribly flat. I enjoy your videos and I learn a lot!

    Hi Ron,
    I quite agree with you, these releases are a bit expensive here in Europe. I have got some of the Elvis Presley reissues on Friday music and personally I consider them only as average. In comparison with the reissues of Speakers Corner the sound quality is slightly poorer. But of course, you can get happy with them.

    There are two versions of the 1st press of Boston. You have to look in the deadwax to look at who the engineer was that cut it to know what the right one is. The right one does have the low end that the others are missing but you have to look for it. Its much better than the reissue. the tapes were fresh. The bass sounds natural and not overblown like on many reissues. However, I do agree that the Friday Music stuff is pretty good for the most part.

  • @kennethsciusco9546

    Hey Ron, I agree with you about the Boston album. I bought that reissue around the same time my son and I went to a local record show here in NC. He purchased an original Japanese press that day. We did a comparison of the two and I thought they were pretty close. The Japanese pressing was a bit light on the bottom as is the way those LPs seemed to be EQed in general.
    I have a Friday Music press of Kansas Leftoverture from 2010 that is very sibilant, especially on Carry on Wayward Son, and thru out the record. While I do not own an original pressing, I do have a very early reissue with minimal sibilance. Maybe over time "original analogue tape" has wear or something that can contribute to the newer presses not sounding quite as good? Just wondering if you have the FM version of Leftoverture and your thoughts of it. Regards...

    • @RocknRonni
      @RocknRonni  5 лет назад

      No sorry showed all the FM i do have or have owned.
      But one of the things a good mastering engineer does is" d-sss" or remove sibilance.
      I guess that was not remastered by a good one lol

    As with all labels and music in general, its always a case to case basis. Some might be great while others are not. The easy success stories are probably when theres not a lot of competition with other quality reissues and good sounding recordings to begin with. Rarely do they seem to be the very best versions to buy however.

    Hi Ron, yes I like the Friday music releases. They sound really good. I only collect the Elvis Presley releases. Most of the time they’re on coloured vinyl and they are really well packaged. My only complaint is that they release way too many releases and it’s very hard to keep up and the prices can be a little high. Great video. Take carel

    Joe Reagoso, AFAIK, is not a professional mastering engineer of note and does not own a real mastering studio that I am aware of. Ron McMaster, Kevin Gray, etc. those are real mastering engineers. I'm not sure what Joe would do in this context, other than EQ a digital transfer of a master tape. I'm guessing his label just licenses from the rights holder and that is what he has access to. "Mastered from" and "cut directly from" are not the same thing. Even a great engineer like Gray is sometimes forced to cut from a hi-rez transfer because the client doesn't want to pay up for him to get the actual tape reels and cut from that. Not to mention rights holders that aren't going to let a tape reel out of the vaults, if they even have it anymore. Basically things are not always what they might seem and Friday Music seems to be a specialist in weasel word marketing.

    • @RocknRonni
      @RocknRonni  5 лет назад

      I was lucky I bought most of my Friday music stuff back in 2010-2011 when Kevin gray was helping him I think the weasels who want to beat around the bush are there Abbey Road Studios with all their digital stuff saying it's from analogue sources you know what that means they're a buncha douchebags
