Huge fan of the Patagonia Regulator fleeces. My R4 is my favorite day to day mid layer. And that Prometheus hoodie sounds epic. Goretex socks are something I need in my inventory too. Awesome video man.
Totally feel you on the R4/R3 fleeces! That PolarTec high loft fleece is amazing, though I do find that over time the fibers do lose thier loft particularly in those high wear areas such as you back and shoulders and elbows (which the PCU L3 addresses by padding some of these areas). The Defiant Hoodie is pretty damn amazing TBH, I get into all the details about it in a previous video, do recommend you giving that a view if you’re in the market for an insulated layer. Gortex socks are one of those things that does weigh much or take up much room in your pack but can really be a life saver particularly if you spend extended time out in the PNW or other high moisture environments. (Soggy socks are the worst) lol. Thanks so much for taking the time to check out our videos and thank you for your support!
Good video. Some great pieces of clothing there for sure. The PCU system is definitely a good setup. I do somethings similar although I have moved to more of a base layer and shell for movement and add insulation over the top at rest stops or in camp. I've found gortex just doesn't work for me. Its not waterproof enough or breathable enough and I just end up wetting out pretty quick. I usually use a durabie shell with some water resistence and good breathability and carry a light water proof layer for bad weather. I do like the PCU's layer 7 insulated pants. Hard to find for the right price that's for sure. Nate
Had a hard time with this because of music, but stuck with it because a great system walkthrough. Fleece, not puffy? I don’t love the weight-warmth ratio of fleece for hiking (but I’m nowhere near as built as the hardcore crew here LOL).
@@jessmcmullin thanks for your input. 🙂as for the fleece - depending on the temperature range I’m expecting and how much of our time outside will be “static” are the main deciding factors on if I will bring my Level 3 or not. If I had to pick only one insulation garment I would definitely go with a jacket with down or synthetic insulation no question. Us being “Hardcore “that’s a good one! You must be referring to someone else😝🤣😂
The merino ones are made by Icebreaker, unfortunately I cant recall the brand of the goretex ones but I bought them from REI a few years back and sadly dont have product tags
Glad you found some info useful in some way. I typically keep a pair of Goretex socks in my EDC as well because i usually wear Salomon SPeedcross shoes (not the gortex ones for more breathability) so I lthe goretex socks come in real handy when i get caught in a downpour as we often do here in the PNW
All great items, but this isn't budget. The brands you mention alone are not considered budget brands by anyone. Patagonia, Arc'teryx ($209 fleece MID LAYER hoodie), Triple Aught Design ($275 heavy fleece jacket), etc. do not make budget items. Great video with clickbait title
I believe that I had said that i had replaced some of the items on the PCU lineup (which was what i was reffering to as “Budget” items) with some of those COTs items you had mentioned. But i was trying to convey that if one were on a Budget, one could simply just purchase the entire PCU line from any MIL surp outfits instead of buying similar garments from the big brands. My appologies if i maybe wasnt super clear on that dileanation.
Really enjoying the content your channel is putting out…thanks!
Thank you so much! I Hope you found it useful in some way. Thank you for your support!

Have you checked out Schoellers’ C_change fabrics? The Defiant hoodie From Prometheus design werx is made with it.
@@BlackFlagSummitClub I will check it out. Thanks
Music is annoying.
Thank you for your input 🙂
@@BlackFlagSummitClub sound balance gets all kinds of messed for me once a video uploads. I can still hear you fine.

@@jessmcmullin agreed… great music, love the tune… but just a bit too loud/distracting to follow along easily.
I need those socks asap! What brand are they? Thanks.

Interesting tip about the gore-tex socks, didn't know those existed

The Music is way too loud :D
Appreciate your feed back! Thank you so much!
Very informative video; music was annoying.
The search for royalty free music is a constant battle. 😅
