RIP Rob. Watched this video a few months ago, returned to watch again and was devastated to see the updated description. Rest easy.

I just watched him in this video last week. How sad and he strikes me as a really cool guy who was humble in what he did.

Thank you so much for such a comprehensive overview on how to get started and the “basics” for gear. This is a goal of mine, but I had no idea how to transition from being a hiker to an alpiner.

is there any way a normal person could afford doing stuff like this?

One obvious thing is to do mountains in your area that require no gear! Depending on your area, there are many groomed trails that climb up into the mountains. The important thing is to get out there and get accustomed to being in the mountains. Do gradually longer hikes to build endurance.

@@danadess Unfortunately i live in North Texas, elevation 600 feet above sea level. There are places to get a general hike in but absolutely no way to access mountains here. I've been to New Mexico once (11,000 ft) which was the closest thing ive experienced to actual mountains

Any poor person can climb mountains. Stop being a loser in texas and move to the mountains. The ski bum life awaits. The prime town is crested butte colorado. See you there
