Little diagnostic tip for anyone who has problems with this. Launch it in desktop mode. If when you try launch it, nothing happens, check your proton version and check the target box. If however you get the little yellow ps plus icon appear on the task bar, but then nothing, the issue is most likely going to be somethinf wrong in the Start In box.

As I said, if it's showing the icon in your taskbar, check what's in the start in box. Should just be the directory address for where the filename.exe is, but not the filename.exe itself

Let me ask ya a question; I did your EA Games Setup with Proton and all that jazz; it doesn't fully load and is super slow and clunky. Any tips for it to work better? I have had this issue where my EA Games launch and it says 'Something Went Wrong...' at launch and none work. It's been a while since I've used it, but you're following the same method and adding the games as none Steam games into your steam library individually and setting forcing them to work with proton, rather than launching them via EA Games

Yea the on screen keyboard is a nightmare. I've found it always works on game mode, but it's hit and miss in desktop mode. If Steam isn't open in desktop mode it definitely won't work

One tip for everyone, if you do not see the latest installed GE proton versions when setting which proton file to be compatible with, you may need to restart the Steam Deck. This should help the most recently installed Proton files appear.
followed your guide and played through the first few bosses of bloodborne flawlessly! thank you so much. i sold my PS5 after getting the steamdeck bc I just wasnt using it. When i got the itch to play bloodborne again I started feeling depressed and even looked at cheap ps4s to play it again. Now I can play it right on my SD!! yay :)
Just trying to set this up but I don’t get any controller mode on my Steam deck? Is that because I’m still not subscribed to the Premium tier? Won’t upgrade until I’m certain that it works.

I’ve just followed this tutorial but the PlayStation app isn’t showing the controller option in the top bar. Is there anything I can do to get this as I can’t use the app without it.
It was on PlayStation Plus and Gamepass, but I don't think it's on either anymore unfortunately. Only other way would be if you owned a PS5 you could Stream it from that. I'm sure it'll be back on PlayStation Plus at some point
Every time I launch it, it requires an update, and once I get past that after many times relaunching, the top right of the menu bar is grayed out and I can't select my account or controller mode.
Excellent video. Just one thing, I followed all the steps but can't see the controller mode icon when I lunch PSPlus en Steam game mode. Its like the window surpases the edges of the Steam Deck screen...
Does it show in desktop mode? Someone else mentioned that it only showed up in the top priced tier of Playstation Plus, I can't verify that though. I've had times where the icon just doesn't show for no reason, restarting it usually fixes that

I have tried to redimension the size to 720 or lower from the game settings that Steam Deck brings to the user but seems like it doesn't work. Btw, I have the oled version, maybe that is the point(?)

File path is just the location of where the file is, in quotes, I can't put the path as yours will be different, but eg "/deck/PSPlus/PSPlus.exe" and the start in would be the same with the file name removed, and the quotes for this one don't matter eg /deck/PSPlus/
One question I have: the select button isnt working. I know that on the ps4, its natively set to their touchpad. Is there some way to map the touchpad button to the steam deck button?
Unfortunately no as it's Sonys app and they don't allow it. You'd have to use a dual shock controller for that. Alternatively, if you've got a playstation you can stream from that using Chiaki, in which you can use the touch pad.
Just a heads up, any game that requires you use the trackpad, you can’t map the steam deck to fulfill the action. You’ll have to connect a ps4/ps5 controller which is kinda weak.
Have you successfully used the trackpad when you connected a ps4 controller? I tried this wirelessly and it did not work. Have been told it works via wired connection but yet to try this out.

8:47 I did this and got to the very end and when you say click play, I click play and nothing happens. It just says stop, then play again and if you press play it does the same thing.
If nothing happens double check the target and start in command. Make sure there's no spaces, double slash and that you have quotes at the start and the end
Does the touch pad map properly for games like Ghost of Tsushima? They need the dual shock touch pad. Just wondering if the steam deck touch pads map properly.
You can delete everything in them before you paste in the location. Target just needs to have "location/filename.exe" start in needs to just have "location"

Yea I can't remember off the top of my head which Icon it is, but one of those ones top right will make it disappear after a few seconds. I assume it's maximize or something
Should just work as long as you're not in desktop mode. If it works in game but not on the menu selection, you need to tap the controller icon towards the top right.
The controller mode is less of an issue. That's just for navigating the game selection page, which you can do with the touch screen. Once the game loads up the controls will work. The thing with it taking you to the ps website is weird though. Maybe try a different version of proton
Yeah I just changed to a different proton But it still just says “get started” instead of saying play I do have a membership as well and I’m signed in which is why it’s so confusing

Question. Having an issue with PSplus not launching. When I click play the yellow PSplus logo pops up and then I can see it on the bottom right hand (similar to where you had us turn off optimize) but nothing else after that. I have changed proton versions. I went from 8-4 to 8-9 and now the latest of 8-11. Reset the deck as well but I don't get the enter your date of birth screen to come up (or even launch). Any tips/advice? Thank you in advance.
I actually just got it working. I had checked my start in and target file paths over and over. On my last check i noticed that i was missing a " at the start of the start in i kept looking at the end of the file path thinking i messed something up but the mistake was at the start of it i didnt grab that " when i copied it over. Id check your file paths very well and make sure its exactly right
Hmm that's odd. Have you tried a game with a 2 player option? I wonder if it's allocating the PS4 controller as the 2nd player controller. If it is this, if you open up the Steam Deck quick access menu (the one that opens on the right), scroll down and there should be an option for controller order

If it's installed OK, double check the paths around the 8:17 mark. - Make sure the path you've got is where your PSPlus is installed, the numbered folder should be different to mine. - Make sure you have the quotes at the start and the end. - Make sure that Start In is exactly the same, but without the executable file name. - Make sure you're launching it in game mode, not desktop mode. - Try a different version of Proton.
Hey I got a question so do I have to have already own PlayStation 5 in order for this to work. Or can I just get a steam deck, follow the instructions, create and account and be able to play
Basically when you're done the target box should contain "location/of/file/name_of_file.exe" the start in box should contain "location/of/file/" you can delete everything from the boxes providing you type the quotation marks back in
I think so. You basically can't play games that use the PS4 touchpad, which tends to be a few of the exclusives. I don't remember Bloodborne using it though
You're just copying the location of the file and putting it in the box instead of everything that's already there, and then putting " at the start and end
Try right click on the plus, exiting and trying again. Still not working, restart your deck. If it's still not working, try forcing it to use a different version of proton
That's strange, are you launching it through Steam in Game Mode? Try renaming or removing the installer from the downloads, see if it's linking back to that somehow
I'm going to try this as I've just stated to watch this however, I am a bit reluctant, I enjoyed watching your previous video but also see yourself and other RUclipsrs have the Xbox guide wrong and it needs updating as the streaming of game pass requires an additional piece adding that is making most oled steam deck owners and others not realise and makes them think they are doing this wrong!

I've never tried it as I prefer a bigger screen for multiplayer stuff, but if you search reddit I've seen some threads with how to deal with it

Sounds like either it hasn't installed properly or you're in the wrong area. I'd try reinstalling it again

Just retry again later, usually means something up with their server

You could try uninstalling and reinstalling, but generally just keeping trying seem to eventually fix this for most people

8.4 still works
100% it's one of the two boxes, if not both. Try typing the quotes manually, copying and pasting can pick up weird fonts.
Is there a sound bug? I loaded up RDR2 and there’s no sound, steam deck has sound, just not the PS Plus app 🤔

Just tried it, it's the maximize icon, the two arrows. After you tap it, just tap the centre of the screen and it'll go away
I couldn’t progress in a bunch of games cause of the touch pad unfortunately so I had to give up on ps plus
it doesn't connect to the servers, even if the app is running. Message: "Can't connect to the server".

Another great video followed the Xbox version runs sweet however on this one once I launch in desktop mode and attempt to log in it closes the keyboard so won’t type any ideas why ?
You can launch it in game mode once you've turned off the graphical optimiser

Question. Having an issue with PSplus not launching. When I click play the yellow PSplus logo pops up and then I can see it on the bottom right hand (similar to where you had us turn off optimize) but nothing else after that. I have changed proton versions. I went from 8-4 to 8-9 and now the latest of 8-11. Reset the deck as well but I don't get the enter your date of birth screen to come up (or even launch). Any tips/advice? Thank you in advance.
You're launching it in Game Mode right? Not Desktop?
@@thegamesapprentice Yeah I tried both. Game mode it didn't launch after 10min so I closed it.

I actually just got it working. I had checked my start in and target file paths over and over. On my last check i noticed that i was missing a " at the start of the start in i kept looking at the end of the file path thinking i messed something up but the mistake was at the start of it i didnt grab that " when i copied it over. Id check your file paths very well and make sure its exactly right

Hmm that's odd. Have you tried a game with a 2 player option? I wonder if it's allocating the PS4 controller as the 2nd player controller.
If it is this, if you open up the Steam Deck quick access menu (the one that opens on the right), scroll down and there should be an option for controller order
I have install playstion plus, and the dil that needest. I put like you say the link of playplus link copy it. But it doenst lanch or play. Can you help me please!!
If it's installed OK, double check the paths around the 8:17 mark.
- Make sure the path you've got is where your PSPlus is installed, the numbered folder should be different to mine.
- Make sure you have the quotes at the start and the end.
- Make sure that Start In is exactly the same, but without the executable file name.
- Make sure you're launching it in game mode, not desktop mode.
- Try a different version of Proton.

Mines says country not supported. After logging into PlayStation plus I’m not sure how to fix that.
If your country is supported and you're not using a VPN I would just retry it again later

No you don't need to own a playstation to stream playstation plus games. Works ok Steam Deck and PC

Basically when you're done the target box should contain "location/of/file/name_of_file.exe" the start in box should contain "location/of/file/" you can delete everything from the boxes providing you type the quotation marks back in

I think so. You basically can't play games that use the PS4 touchpad, which tends to be a few of the exclusives. I don't remember Bloodborne using it though

You're just copying the location of the file and putting it in the box instead of everything that's already there, and then putting " at the start and end

It'll be one of the characters in the path. A space where it shouldnt be, a missing quote, usually something like that

Try right click on the plus, exiting and trying again. Still not working, restart your deck. If it's still not working, try forcing it to use a different version of proton

Yeah I have only ever played the first one so that’s the one I really wanted to play. It is just as fun as I remember it :)
Definitely recommend checking out the 2nd one, it's a bit less clunky and has some really cool powers

Double check the commands or try another version of Proton. A few people have had issues so check comments and see if anything matches your issue

That's strange, are you launching it through Steam in Game Mode? Try renaming or removing the installer from the downloads, see if it's linking back to that somehow

I'm going to try this as I've just stated to watch this however, I am a bit reluctant, I enjoyed watching your previous video but also see yourself and other RUclipsrs have the Xbox guide wrong and it needs updating as the streaming of game pass requires an additional piece adding that is making most oled steam deck owners and others not realise and makes them think they are doing this wrong!
