Kudos to the officers on a job well done, this guy was clearly an emanate threat to the community and an immediate threat to the officers, but I'm still amazed at the fog breath, several inches of snow and SHORT SLEEVES!!!!!
Just guessing, but I think he might have been something akin to a SWAT officer. Body armor is something you put on when you get to the scene where the bad guy is holding out. It isn't the best choice for maneuvering in a high-speed chase on uneven roads featuring unplowed streets.
No expense to the taxpayer? Every officer who fired his or her weapon will go on administrative duty during a review of the incident. The officers who hit and wounded or killed the suspect will spend some time seeing a psychiatrist or psychologist, and won't return to duty until their respective doctors okay a return to duty. It is possible that some officers won't be ready to return to field duty for months; some may never return. A few officers who return to duty will never really get past it. They'll become more aggressive or more reckless. They will suffer from depression, PTSD, impulse control, drug and alcohol abuse, and more. Shooting a suspect in real life isn't like it is on TV. Idiot remarks notwithstanding, the overwhelming majority of cops are just good men and women serving the community in which they live. Taking a life, no matter how justified or necessary, will leave some sort of invisible wound, a scar on the psyche of good men and women. You can't wish it away the way that movie and TV writers to in a script. This is going to leave the department with a large financial expensive and a considerable human cost.

Maybe he should have stayed put in his cruiser and no one would be dead by now. Street signs get knocked over daily by snowplows in most of Alaska. with everything white and not much sunlight it's easy to get turned around even in a city you know well. Granted, the cop might really not know directions, but I think it's more likely that she'd gotten confused by a knocked over street sign, or a sign covered by a plow truck.
I live in that neighborhood. Street signs are up. How do you go down Lake Otis & not know East from Right? East towards the mountains & West towards town. Duh...
it seems everyone in Alaska has no license, is drunk, on drugs or both and armed, legally or not. Good job officers, glad you are all safe on this one. Thank You.
Someone give this female cop a compass, she is the worst officer and completely clueless It's classic that she spiked herself after a backup unit told her over the radio that they where going to set up spikes at a certain location, and spiked herself to get out of the arrest.
Female officer needs to spend a bit of time in her zone LEARNING the streets and perhaps and investment in a COMPASS so she knows which direction she is heading.
Maybe investing in a 4x4 so she doesn’t get high-centered while in pursuit, although that did stop the Un correction direction call-outs, so it wasn’t all bad.
Thank you officers. Sheesh what a nightmare - a pursuit on ice and snow, then into an un-snowplowed neighborhood. Then on top of all that you're forced to shoot some schmuck. Thanks again, cops. Be careful out there.
What??? In Texas, we can use the sun to find our direction, but Alaska probably not so easy. We also have those little roadside signs that tell us what direction we are traveling in! Texas Lady

Officer in the impala and wearing black skull cap ran into the line of direction of the offenders truck, when he could of stayed on the passenger side whete he still had tactical positioning from tgat location. It could be argued this officer put himself in harm's way, then justified lethal force because of it. Judged and sentenced to death on the street. The officer in the crown vic was barely touched and should be given an Oscar for his performance of looking hurt with that three step limp. Not justified in my opinion, and I could argue a case and win.
Total overkill. A setup. Who in their right mind goes and jumps in front of/behind a moving truck that is clearly attempting to get away??? Then turn around and say it was assault with a deadly weapon????!! Fucking kidding? I live in Anchorage..have for 20 yrs. Most police here are busters. And chicken...quick to shoot. Even when the situation doesn't make it necessary. Biggest gang around...?? Answer: The police aka 5-0 aka Po-po aka a person with a badge.
The second I saw him backing up and apparently trying to run over the cop, I knew the cop was gonna turn around and shoot his face off. Honestly, at that point I agree with shooting him. If he's willing to try and murder a police officer, then he's not going to give up without getting shot. Might as well end it before the guy actually hurts someone else.
Had a girlfriend who didn't know her north from her left. Used to piss me off...Untill i figured out she was ALWAY EXACTLY 180 degrees off ! From then on i simply knew it was opposite of what she said. Absolutely great sense of direction, just 180 degrees out. Problem solved ...

My 32 year old daughter still uses her thumb and index finger, to see which hand makes an 'L', so she'll know for sure which way is left. We taught her that when she was four. Thankfully she doesn't drive.
I’m retired law enforcement, I’ve never heard more directionally challenged sworn police officers than on this video. The female officer in the first two minutes sounds like she is directing every officer AWAY from suspect vehicle. I’ve been an FTO, if after 3 weeks, a rookie can’t say for certain ‘north, south, east, west, which direction they’re traveling, N.S.E.W. from an intersection they’ve made a vehicle/pedestrian contact’ they stayed another three weeks learning our jurisdictional roadways. That sounds ‘mean’, but, if you’re in an OIS, ground fight, rolled up on ‘31’, accident, in vehicle/foot pursuit, trying to back up another officer, etc., if you can’t direct other officers to your location, you could get dead!!! Then, because, shit rolls downhill, I get in trouble, by; #1) the chief, #2) the chief and my fellow officers, #3) your significant other, #4) your significant other and your children, #5) all of the above! (Also, add Dispatcher to #1,#2, #3, #4 and #5)So, if you have no idea where you are and your Dispatcher doesn’t know, neither does anyone coming to save you! FYI, I’m more afraid of the ‘Wrath of Dispatch’ than anything else! (I mean that, because, my wife is a retired Dispatcher, so,...........) But, all newly minted rookies, don’t want the ‘officer in training’ moniker, or, rookie, attached to their name. I had 40 sq. miles to patrol, fuck you, if my life is dependent upon you knowing where I am and you can’t find me, I will shoot you myself.
It's because this took place in Alaska. It's a proven fact that being so close to either of the Poles causes mass disorientation and sense of direction.
I was wondering about that too. But at least we got the female's hilarity and a perfect view of the one cop putting two rounds into the guy's head at nearly point blank range.
Nope, but I used to see it in ice skating rinks frequently, back in the days when my son was competing in figure skating. Saw it once from very close up because I did not recover like the cop in the video; in my defense, the cop had snow for traction and bracing. I had nothing but cold air. Happily, only my dignity was hurt.

Matthew Scott "justified" I don't think so, "allowed" more accurate. When cops abuse their power they can NOT really "justify" their actions, but they can get away with murder because they are granted "diplomatic status" they can not be touched and they know it. so the law "allows" them to commit criminal acts, but "justice" and justification are far removed from the equation.
No, it's justified, and for more reasons than because the perp attempted to murder the cops. The perp had already demonstrated himself on multiple occasions in the course of the chase as a reckless shitbag with a total disregard for human life, culminating in attempting to run over cops. Add to that the fact that this was in winter, with the cops very obviously having great difficulty maintaining their footing on the snowy roads, and it's fortunate that they were able to avoid getting hit. Now, let's take your stupid little theory to its logical conclusion, with the following hypothetical: The cops hold their fire and the perp escapes...only for a kid somewhere in that neighborhood who wants to go across the street to his friend's house to build a snowman with him, and gets mowed down by the perp. But then, you live in Fantasy Land, where the bad guys are the heroes and the cops are murderers, so yeah, FUCK YOU.
PinkOld if the kid going to build a snowman was black the cops would have stopped, shoot him in under two seconds and then continue to go and kill the other guy...a cop's day!!
"High centered" is when you get stuck on an obstacle that is too high for your vehicle to go over , causing loss of traction at the drive wheels... in this case, my guess would be that she got herself up on a snow bank.

Definitely didn't say "Drivers dead". Police don't make that call.
@@doc4153 The can when it is obvious. Such as when they're shot in head with major damage and gray matter splattered about. This is evident that was the case here. Otherwise they wouldn't have directed the ambulance to stage down the block. Plus the cop that shot him, was pointing his firearm directly at the guy's head.

Oh MY GOD Miss cop. Going south, going north, going west. Ho I lost him, Oh go around me, I suck at this.
The quality of most Anchorage Cops is quite low. There are a few good ones, but they have more cop problems than any other city that size.
Most chick's suck at pursuits.
@Pertinent Prick Glad I'm not the only one that was bothered by that xD
I noticed as well, she lied and said she got high-centered, told the male cop to go around. I suspect the dudes have been covering for her ever since she arrived.
@Pertinent Prick its ebonics?
Good god the amount of people that say the cops are wrong for what they did. and that the cop put himself in the way. I think they got out to surround him and he put it in revers and stepped on it. Shooting tires does not work. And I am pretty sure he was going to keep ramming them to try and get away in a residential area where innocent people can be at risk.
Shooting tires disables the vehicle nearly instantly in that snow/ice terrain?
Luke Roetling Firing your weapon, unless you feel you will be harmed is prohibited in residential areas. They can’t shoot out tires. This isn’t Hawaii 5-0. That’s what spike strips are for.
This guy was some kind of psycho....he got exactly what he deserved......all he had to do was stop and stick his hands out of the window......chase over, and he lives to breathe the fresh Alaskan air another day.....he chose to be stupid.
elijah sessom I agree. In Kentucky we call it TSTL= too stupid to live. 😉
Anybody who thinks this man or anyone like him should be treated any different than what they get needs to be signed up to post bail. take him home with you to your family, take him in, get him on his feet and get his life on the right track or shut the fuck up!
that female officer, OMG!
She seemed a bit out of it, didn´t she?
No doubt, I can't believe she got out of the Police Academy's driving range. I'm glad I got my license in December, because i got plenty of driving in the snow as a 15-year old with a driving permit. I could drive better at 16 with blizzard conditions! Her voice was annoying too. She should go into homicide, the murderer will tell her everything as long as she doesn't talk! Just kidding! She was probably having a really bad day!
@@DoctorZebedee Yep, like the elevator went to the top, just didn't open! Again, just kidding.

Its scary to think that people who are capable of acting like this are around us everyday in public. That's why, it's not a good idea to get into arguments with people in public. Ya never know what crazy bastard you may be f--kin with. For real!
That’s how it’s done folks. He was given the room temperature test and passed it. lmao

Yes he intentionally swerved to miss the officer that shot him. Little known local fact, suspect and the officer who shot went to high school together and were briefly friends.
Well done, officers. I'm sure you would have ended it differently given the choice. Thank you for your bravery and service in keeping our streets safe.
It's good to see such a civil, thoughtful post here. Too many 'bad ass' keyboard ninjas with a paucity of wit and less humanity are almost as egregious - in a way - as the criminal mindsets they wish dead. I'm sure they'll have a little fit, but hey I'm old and know stuff: But for God's grace, any of us - or a loved one - could be in similar situations. Was reading about this young man and his Dad who was killed not long after this - he was cared about by a lot of people for a long time. A series of really wrong turns happened to both of them. And I especially feel empathy for the police who are in this situation. (Btw, I'm not naive and know there is a very disturbing trend of flat out killing coming from some police departments.) This isn't one of those killings. Blessings to everyone here. #aintnotheminheaven

The female officer seems a prime example of diversity in the workplace ,it's not if you're suitable for a job anymore it's the colour of your skin ,sex ,sexual orientation ,religion that qualify's you ahead of someone who is actually suited for a job.
Was I the only one that was amazed at the young officer who got out of the car in the snow with a short sleeved uniform shirt on? Kudos to the officers on a job well done, this guy was clearly an emanate threat to the community and an immediate threat to the officers, but I'm still amazed at the fog breath, several inches of snow and SHORT SLEEVES!!!!!
Just guessing, but I think he might have been something akin to a SWAT officer. Body armor is something you put on when you get to the scene where the bad guy is holding out. It isn't the best choice for maneuvering in a high-speed chase on uneven roads featuring unplowed streets.
I have never seen so many wrong directions and wrong street names given by multiple officers over the radio 😨
Great work by brave Officers, and another piece of trash off the streets at no expense to the taxpayer.
Jack Regan You can thank my uncle for being the officer who shot him.

He had every intention to kill once he threw his truck in reverse
Oh hi away with that shit. Dude was trying to get away. How can you tell his intentions of killing? He's literally driving backwards and the cop RUNS THROUGH THE PATH of his travel literally from the other Street. He ran so the way in behind the truck, ran behind him, and by the time the truck realized there was a cop behind him he served and went the other way, and didn't continue to back up straight. The cop ran behind him with guns drawn and then shot the guy as he was barely even approaching him from the side. He started shooting through the side window first then into the front windshield. Tell be how being on the side of the truck puts your life in danger? Trucks can drive side to side? 🤣🤣🤣 He's just a pussy that ran in the path of danger and then got scared for his life. Maybe he should have stayed put in his cruiser and no one would be dead by now. Street signs get knocked over daily by snowplows in most of Alaska. with everything white and not much sunlight it's easy to get turned around even in a city you know well. Granted, the cop might really not know directions, but I think it's more likely that she'd gotten confused by a knocked over street sign, or a sign covered by a plow truck.
and she High centered her cruiser
I live in that neighborhood. Street signs are up. How do you go down Lake Otis & not know East from Right? East towards the mountains & West towards town. Duh...

I can't believer this, she got an award for doing absolutely nothing and not even knowing which way she was going. She just watched the other units !
LOL... they gave her a gold plated compass??? Very appropriate 🤪😂

Give her one of those floating compasses that old people have !!! omg.
I was thinking of that when I was watching the video . If I were on the Department, I would find a real old one and put it on her dash !!
uncalled for unjustifiable shooting. The cop justifies his shooting by jumping in the way of the vehicle then out of the way to shoot him in the head.

Nope, but I used to see it in ice skating rinks frequently, back in the days when my son was competing in figure skating. It's not about cops being mad or not. Agg assault on an officer is deadly force.
Totally justified.
Matthew Scott
Aggravated is with use of any weapon, such as car or knife. etc.
Now, let's take your stupid little theory to its logical conclusion, with the following hypothetical:
The cops hold their fire and the perp escapes...only for a kid somewhere in that neighborhood who wants to go across the street to his friend's house to build a snowman with him, and gets mowed down by the perp.
All that for a illegal u-turn
