Finally covering a Wii game here on Lost Bits, and what better game to start with than the launch title that was initially bundled with the console: Wii Sports! Now I don't know about you, but I played a TON of Wii Sports when the Wii launched!

One of the best things about the Wii is you can go om the message board and see every single day you played the Wii and how long you played

One of the lost things in Wii sports is the final boss battle with Matt
10:08 After a while, the person who sent me those files actually admitted to them being fake, lol. I wanted to believe the first one was real, but it sadly wasn't. And also, upon further inspection, the second one clearly uses textures taken straight out of Billiards in Wii Play. The only legitimate hidden file this person actually sent me was the golf course shown at 8:00. Everything else was sadly fake.

15:00 That seems to be an early version of the castle model from New Super Mario Bros. Wii Sports was in development at the same time as NSMB, so it's likely the teams working on each game were sharing resources for testing or as an easter egg. The low poly count and low texture resolution, makes it apparent that the model came from a DS game.

I have a theory about the purple castle in Golf.
I think the castle is an extract from New Super Mario Bros. DS, because the castle in that game has an uncanny resemblance to the castle in NSMBDS.
To add to that, the unused “Blue Flag” texture is on the front of the castle in NSMBDS, used as two front windows.
I don’t know why the devs of Wii Sports chose to carry over the castle from NSMBDS, but what I do know is the castle is definitely pulled from that game.
The castle looks more like the castles from “New Super Mario Bros.”.
(“DS”).
Specifically, the castles at the end of a world.

I always loved wii sports, I spent more time in it than most people, and I wish I knew where my wii was. I’ve always wanted to explore wuhu island in person, I don’t know why, it’s just such a beautiful island.

Obviously, with Wii Sports, all that is required is wrist motion accuracy which is easy to cheeze, lol

I NEVER knew that Pool and plane flying were at one point going to included instead as bowling! It makes sense that there were originally 18 holes in Golf. I dont like that they only had 9 holes, not 18, like there is in a normal game of golf. The one that you showed looks like one from Resort...
Also, does anyone know how to make the ball bounce in a different direction in Tennis?
At 15:00, while this looks similar to mentioned castle, it’s actually the castle from the mini-map of *New Super Mario Bros.!*
The only difference though is that the castle found in golf doesn’t have the window above the front door. The window texture is still found in the castle texture via the files, further proving this castles original debut in NSMB, as these are likely the same sprites.
@Some-guy-on-the-internet here in the comments mentioned the golf castle is likely an earlier version of the castle from NSMB, which is most likely the reason behind the lack of the window, despite still being in the castle’s textures.
I would LOVE it if there was a super realistic cutscene where you pin Matt down in the boxing ring and kiss him really passionately to let him know there's no hard feelings.
How to make a thumbnail
1. Put your profile pick in the top right corner
2. put the title of the game and the words “lost bits”
3. get one image copy and paste it and mirror it and put it on the other side
4. Get 1 more image to go with the game between the 2 copy and pasted images

I‘m that type of person that LOVES looking behind the scenes of something, especially in games. I love the aesthetic of low res textures and low poly models, something you would see in half life. That’s why Half Life is also one of my favorite games of all time, because of the aesthetic look.
Same goes to Wii Sports. I love looking at unused files. I just imagine that the employees of Nintendo at the time of making this game must’ve thought - „Sometime, one day, someone in this world will find these unused secrets. Maybe in 2010, or in the far future of 2020... Just imagine what next gen consoles there will be...“

I feel like I was watching Boundary Break because of the panning of the camera.
A lot of this reminds me of the Park (Rest Area) in SSB Melee. I always wanted to just explore that park and I feel the same about the area and town in wii sports and the island in Wii Sports Resort. There should be an open exploration version of these games.

He then got deprrssed, but had a buttload of money, so he decided to take a vacation to an island. Wuhu Island. (See where this is going?) Where he became the Basketball champ. Guess who came to crush his dreams a second time? You. You didn't realise that you were making him sad, but continued to beat him at everything. And he resorted to chocolate bars. Lots of them. He got so out of shape that he couldn't box anymore. So, he chose another successor to take you down. YOU ARE MR. SANDMAN. The nickname given to you because you avoid punches as if they just go through you like a knife through soft sand, AND because you were dubbed King of Wuhu Island. After being bested by Little Mac, you also went to chocolate. Then, you needed to get fit. WII FIT.....
Okay, I know that's a *bit* of a stretch but I thought it was an amusing thought nonetheless.

For me, I think it’s also possible that the billiard balls were going to be used in the background of the boxing training area, along with a billiards table. I think the two you said are more likely though

Nope! It’s an indie platformer, kinda. There’s platforming but still a lot of story. I’d highly recommend it, if you’re a bit older. It does contain cursing and the such, but it’s a good game.
@@hezakiahmecham1449 A platformer that's also kinda "choose your own story", you can basically just pick who to interact with and go do fun stuff with, but in the end most major events happen. The characters are also animals.
Boxing was my favorite sport to play in this game. I remember playing it when I got an opponent who looked like one of my ex-boyfriends at the time. Needless to say, I easily won that fight.
It seems the original miis had more fleshed out customization. If it were in the final build, that would've been dope!

How do you look at the files, load them onto your wii and computer, and all that kind of stuff? It all sounds interesting and I've always wanted to try it because it sounds fun.

Similar things happen in most valve made source games. If you look the the .VPK files, you will find many weird things that are usually from other games that are in the files for no reason. There's also usually stuff that shouldn't be in the files, like a picture of a cat (in Half-Life 2) and textures from a secret unreleased test map from Half-Life 2 (In Day Of Defeat: Source).

5:57 Speaking of Bowling, here's a story that literally nobody will believe because it's only possible with the pea-sized brain of mine. Alright so long story short, I got a gutter ball with bumpers on. If you don't know what bumpers are, they're the barriers stopping your ball from going into the gutter. Well, me having a pea-sized brain, decided I could just throw the ball into the air. (I didn't know how to bowl correctly at the time so thats why there were bumpers and why I threw the ball into the air.) And the ball... Landed in the gutter. WITH THE BUMPERS ON. Literally everybody at camp, including me, burst out laughing. So yeah. You're not gonna believe me. I understand. Because I made the impossible possible that day. I'm better at bowling now... I think.

This is my theory of the billiards theory. Back in the Wii’s development they had two sections for games. I can’t remember the names but there was one for games that were in Wii sports. And one that was used for Wii play.. and than I’m assuming they used billiards from the Wii play game as a placeholder for whatever. Since it was still being worked on
