Hundreds of such baby elephants get separated from their herd every year, and its the duty of the wildlife department officers to be the parents to these baby elephants till they are old enough.
This sweet baby elephant is in trouble and has an injured trunk. To make this scene worse, it is left behind by the herd. The wildlife department officers came to the rescue. Baby is hungry and kept asking for milk as it's new to these techniques of being fed. The baby was resisting and not choking. That was because they don't like buffalo milk and prefer elephant milk. So initially they show resistance to buffalo milk

You have to understand what they are speaking, he was feeding with caution. We don't get the correct picture, but must listen to the conversation that was taking place.

Good intention of the people. But what most people don't understand here is that babies are babies, no matter of what species. That baby needs motherly love, care, attention and support in everything. It needs to be soothed so that it won't be left physically or, psychologically traumatized. So please be sensible. And don't just cage it. Do not leave it alone. Be there with it physically and with time it'll be healed.

This was very hard to watch! This poor babys first moments of life, filled with pain & fear... Probably becuz of a man made trap! I know these guys have saved lots of elephants b4, but he didn't look like he was very happy! And sounded like he was choking! I'm probably just a worrier! Good luck baby elephant! His poor trunk!!!
Izzy Barr no, you were correct. Baby was choking on the milk. I pray they send him to a refuge where one caregiver to one baby is the ratio. They live with them and sleep with them. Poor little critter.

Baby elephants die just from being alone never mimd the trauma. David Sheldrick’s foundation or any proper elephant rescue would be appalled, leaving a traumatized baby alone facing a corner screaming, it breaks my heart.

Even if it was not injured , wild animals are skeptical about food offered by someone other than its herd or mother, even though force feeding is torturous it is a necessity for the animal

Poor baby 😥 So frightened, confused and traumatized with a crowd of loud humans handling him.
They are delicate souls who can die from shock and grief.
Had to stop the video at the insensitive manner of his being force fed milk while uncomfortably constrained by numerous people.
I've learned from years of support of the Sheldrick Wildlife Trust that there is great need for gentle, calm and quiet interactions with elephant orphans.
These people, however well-intended, are causing further trauma and setbacks for this tiny baby.
It's also so rare that a young elephant would be left behind - the entire matriarchy dotes upon the babies - that I wonder if and how that may have happened.

Sadly he's being force-fed and in the heat his milk formula has been put in a discarded cold-drink plastic bottle .....did he survive !Pls value this magnificent being and at least have the basics....feeding bottles, blankets , toys etc for any emergency rescues !

When I see the comments here, there are so many experts in wildlife and so many people who are interested in criticising rather than appreciating what these selfless wildlife officers have done, they always risk their life to save the injured animals.
In this situation, these wonderful people have been able to help and save this little baby elephant who is injured and abandoned by the mother. This little one would have been otherwise died of starvation and other animals would have killed it.
Some people never appreciate the good things the others do...😥😥

So many people pinning the baby down... It's frantic wailing in pain... No e to heed. The men here are doing their job of saving, but No humane touch, or emotional touch a baby needs...

Its a one day old calf. He does not know how to drink from a bottle. So he must be forced fed. Otherwise he will be in hunger.
You can see that all the feeding was done by men, no women involved.
What do you expect ?

As multiple others have noted, these people are choking that baby. He or she cannot breathe and I can hear the milk going into their lungs. When feeding, its vital that they stop, take the bottle out and allow that baby to breathe. Anyone can hear that the baby was in distress, spluttering and choking on the milk. Please use your good sense people and be careful with this little one or the rescue will be in vain.
Also there are far too many people shouting and crowding the baby. He or she is hurt and in a traumatised state and needs quiet , comfort and patience from the rescuer, not loud shouting, choas and having milk forced so fast down her throat she is choking. And then left on bare cement with nothing cosy to comfort her/him.
I say this as someone who sincerely loves these creatures and values any effort to save, rehabilitate or look after them : please treat this little one as what they are : a traumatised baby animal that needs gentle care.

Poor little sweetheart is calling for his Mama. If there's something wrong with their baby, they will desert their baby. Thank God these wonderful people and Doctor were there to make repairs to his tiny trunk. It looks like they are almost drowning the day old baby elephant CALF. Ì PRAY THAT THIS BEAUTIFUL BABY ELEPHANT CALF.

The elephant's only a day old I don't think it will drown it's a big animal they need to make sure it's getting enough nutrients it is body
