  • Okay maybe they are way more basic than most people think, but I get asked so much that they might as well be a secret. Here's the list:
    Pan Pastel
    Compressed Charcoal
    General's Charcoal Pencil (Soft)
    Willow Charcoal
    Kneaded Eraser
    Mono Zero Eraser
    Blending Stump
    Paper Towel
    Strathmore 18x24
    Arches Cover
    You can find all of these materials on amazon.

    Hi Josh, thank you for your video, I have a few questions,
    Which Strathmore paper are the bright white not creamy white? Archival ofc
    Also, do you recommend the Strathmore 500 series 18" x 24" and is it bright white or creamy?
    As for charcoal pencils, I noticed some are tend to go brown colored not pure black, which charcoal pencils do you recommend for fine detailed artwork? Nitram charcoals? General Primo charcoal or carbon I am not sure
    Have you tried the primo pencils? Are they good for fine detailed art?
    Thank you ❤

    Hey there! When you do practice exercises, do you still use an expensive kind of paper or a cheap one (but with good quality)? Thanks!

    • @boobooman9365
      @boobooman9365 2 года назад +2

      Personally, I think a cheap one is good for practice. Sometimes I even use print paper and it works fine with charcoal, I mean just for practice though.

    • @ansh4587
      @ansh4587 Год назад

      just use whtever kind of paper u have don’t bother bout paper quality when u practice.. personally i use willow charcoal for practice bcoz general’s is pretty expensive charcoal (for me tho) i only use it when i get serious work 😅

    • @greekveteran2715
      @greekveteran2715 Год назад

      For practice drawing/sketching, there are many papers that are decent quality. Some are: Canson 1557 (160gr or 180gr), Canson Mix Media. Daler Rowney Heavyweight Fine Grain 200gr,or Smooth 220gr. Talens makes an inexpensive 250gr Mixed media Art creation.
      Are some of the best options for either practice or beginners. For professional work or simply if money isn't an issue, then Arches Hot Pressed for Graphite/Charcoal or any dry or wet medium,even though for watercolors, I'd choose their Cold pressed version.
      Then Fabriano Artistico, is my 2nd favorite and the one I use for classic sketching or whenever I need a slightly cream or Ivory tone, the cotton makes wonders and a ton of a difference, on everything!!!

    You mentioned you don't use that powdered charcoal much because you use pan pastel instead. I've never used either and they seem very similar. What's the difference?

  • @bhaviarora8982
    @bhaviarora8982 3 года назад +2

    You can use compressed powder insead od pan pastels

    • @MadCharcoal
      @MadCharcoal  3 года назад +3

      It is a bit more challenging to apply compressed charcoal powder, especially when creating a hard edge

    • @ansh4587
      @ansh4587 Год назад

      compressed charcoal powder is less controllable compared to pan pastel and it also erasable pretty much so going pan pastel is best choice , but it’s all depend on ur preference and ur wallet also , panpastel has decent price range if i skip my 2day’s lunch and dinner i’m probably able to afford it 😂😂😂
