@@locabynature I've never paid much attention to em at all, until recently, until I came across this channel actually. Their legs seem to pop outta nowhere and they take off running. He was so patient with you! I done know about anyone else however... but I found it hard to watch because of all the flies! Still a great video though!!
i love doing this for my local hedgehogs. I film them too. Only problem I have, is when they have the ticks on their heads or belly. getting the spikey things to open up is extremely difficult 🥺
Are there any sort of tick poisons you can use that are safe for the little fellas. Would be better than pulling them out & risk leaving a head embedded.
Is that a correct way to remove ticks? I don't know about ticks in other coutries, but in mine, you have to carefully remove it, so the head does not stay in the body of the prey, because it can also cause problems. This looks like a good way to leave the head in the flesh of its victim.
Thanku for helping that cute wee dude Rick are disgusting even hedgehogs deserve to enjoy there lives parasite free ,also never new there were black hedgehogs around . What country are you in please?🦔🦔🦔🦔🦔
So glad to see you helping the hedgehogs. I’ve never seen a black one before. I believe it can be dangerous if the head of the tick is not left in. Also, why are they out in the daytime? Do they have access to food and water? 🦔 💦
I found a baby hedgehog -atelerix algiers- on the road. He was very thin and wobbly... i've kept him in my garden with water and food and seems better. Do you know at what weight I can release him again? I also found one huge tick. Nasty creatures! Thanks a lot for your kindness to these animals. Where is this?
Just think about those poor creatures in the wild who live with the terrible scourge of ticks and have no way of ridding themselves. This lovely animal was lucky.
Incorrect. Twisting is arguably the best method because it is *less* likely to leave behind mouth parts. The trick is to do it without squeezing it, which can push contaminated blood back into the animal. They have dedicated tools that twist by grabbing right near where the tick is connected to the skin. Which is the best way.
@@nervecentral Better still to use angled tweezers whose points meet beyond the head of the tick, so that everything comes away, leaving nothing in the host animal.
@@nervecentral are you saying from experience or do you have a source for this? Because every page I've been on, including CDC, warns that you never twist a tick. Which seems right since twisting things more likely will tear them apart.
That was awesome! Never seen a full black hedgie like him before! Beautiful! Thanks for getting all the ticks off! Poor things always get so many!

I was wondering the same thing…why are they out in the daytime??
I was all ways taught to remove the heads of the tick so It dosen't fester in the skin once the body is removed .

So shines a good deed in a weary world.

Rabies maybe?

they run so quickly. he must be hungry and thirsty to be out in daylight. they are nocturnal animals

Ok, I'm no expert but shouldn't you never twist the tick. This way the mouth part is easily left in the skin.
