Lesson 3 - Printing with Eddie

  • Okay - forgive the screenshare, we wanted to show you what's going on with the computer's Bartender software while Eddie is printing as well.
    With your Eddie purchase, you'll get a code to download this Bartender software to send print files to Eddie. There's a few steps - it seems complicated, it isn't. My cookie was 3.5x3.5, my print file was 4x4, so I tell Bartender that my cookie is 4x4, my image is 4x4, and I load the 4x4 image into the software. This tells Eddie to overspray.
    If you don't know what Eddie is - he's an Edible printer. No - not an edible image printer - Eddie actually prints directly on the cookie. Pretty darn neat. His price tag is a little breathtaking at $3,000USD as of August 2021, but in terms of scaling a home bakery or brick 'n mortar barkery - this could be the move.
    We switch from the 3.5in back packs (note - oblong shape - Eddie works just fine with those too!) to a 3.2in apple with a different print. He knocked them out. You might be able to see that I went back and changed the print file to a more desaturated version.
    In the last step - we print directionally meaning - we're printing and orientation matters now. Unlike patters which are pretty easy, having directional images means Eddie has to not shift the cookie, he has to keep the image aligned, and we gotta play a bit of a guessing game with centering.
    Note - I decreased the load speeds of the Eddie to 40 and 40 from 100 and 100. He is slow.
    Also note - Eddie comes with a disc that feeds the cookies for you. Corrie and I prefer manually feeding these more intricate designs because - well - we have printer trust issues lol. But the feeder is really neat and he can print 12 cookies at a time versus the one at at time you see here.
    What we did is called "manual feed." We have to click "load" each time because Eddie recognizes the feeder isn't connected.
    Smart printer!

    I really thought I figured out what I’ve been doing wrong watching this video I was so hopeful but Eddie managed to scrape the icing off this cookie too 😭

      Dude - Eddie takes no prisoners! Have you joined the Eddie Printers Users Group? They know how to solve every issue and then some. I think your solution may be one of those aftermarket feeder trays!

    Thanks for these videos! I hope you do more. The backpack paper looks backward; the red line is on the right side of the "paper". Should you have mirrored the image? Thanks again for all you do!

      Hey Jen! I honestly am terrible about remembering which way is up and down. The image doesn't need to be flipped, the cookie does 😅 I need to leave myself a sticky note.
      What content would you like to see about Mr. Edward the printer?!

      Leave it on they said! It like - runs through some sequences for maintenance as long as it's powered.

    do you have any issues with it scraping cookies?

    • @SugarCookieMarketing
      @SugarCookieMarketing  Год назад +1

      Great question! I don't because we do manual feeding - meaning we're not using the "feed tray" - but if you do use the feed tray, purchasing the third party feed trays apparently really help with getting Eddie to recognize weird shapes and stops the scraping issue. Sassy Trays is a fan favorite for this.

      Ya know - in the Eddie Printer Users group on Facebook - they have some tutorials on how to get the colors more punchy - I think it may have something to do with contract settings, but I'm not sure. Great group to get some info though!

    Great machine! Nice detail! My wife and I are thinking about buying an eddie. I have a question for current eddie owners. Have you seen a dramatic increase in sales since you started using the Eddie? I can see how it would give you an edge on photos for marketing but has anyone been able to use it long enough to see a sales uptick and credit those sales to the eddie and its capabilities. Thanks in advance.

      Hey Douglas - awesome to hear about you and the wifey's hustle!! This question gets asked a bunch - the summary answer: it all comes down to marketing. How do you plan to market Eddie to the target audience? "No one can buy what they don't know's for sale," right? If you actively market Eddie - and specifically to commercial clients who *love* seeing their logo slapped on just about anything - Eddie can pay for himself in 6 months or less (actual feedback from an Eddie-owning group member).

    Hi I have a question I bought the Eddie printer buy why does my ink cartridge touch the surface of my cookie and breaks the royal icing ?

    • @SugarCookieMarketing
      @SugarCookieMarketing  Год назад

      It shouldn't - try cleaning off the print head with an alcohol wipe and try manually feeding one cookie - see if that fixes it. If it doesn't, you may need to return Eddie back to Primera for calibration.

    How many cookies does one cartridge do?

    • @SugarCookieMarketing
      @SugarCookieMarketing  2 года назад

      Great question - but it'd highly dependent on what colors you print. I think I've heard people getting 1 cartridge to last about 6 months, but note - because it's food-safe ink, all cartridges have an expiration date.
