I put it down to mat in shade plus moving shadow. I know you still love that little guy, the picture quality never ceases to amaze. My news, My Air 2S combo, arrives Friday.
Odd that the RTH doesn't follow the spec's in the manual. Maybe a firmware update has changed the way it works. More interesting is how your Nano doesn't want to come and land at times. And even more puzzling is that Autel hasn't seen one your Nano video's, and wanted to make things right before you make you next video where it won't land correctly. Great testing Marcus, and thanks for sharing.
The more I heard you mention screen dimming, the more I feel better about spending a bit more on the DJI RC. Autel missed a trick by not creating a package with a smart controller. Great test of the auto return on the nano plus 👍
The false bottom signal, it's a problem that appears in almost all drones (nanos & lite), after the last update 1.3.27!! On my lite+ at least this happens. I have sent a complaint to Autel but as ...you know, they are still looking into it... Remember the last update came out in May, KEY THINGS are still MISSING, like active track, is this correct product support??
Hello Marcus, just a thought, after watching your video it came to mind that maybe the bottom sensor was having problems with the landing pad in the shadows of the tree. That the contrast of the shadows swaying about interfered with the depth of field for the sensor and tricked it to think it was an 3D object and not a 2D flat image(shadow). Just an observation on my part. What do you think? Ed W. Halifax, Nova Scotia, Canada
I kept shouting at the screen, " move the mat"" move the mat". Marcus is so knowledgeable that a million things can be wrong. When back to basic's will put things back on track.
(Marcus kept hiding next to a tree for it to descend, since he liked the shade, and kept mentioning about unsafe to land in the app, wonder why?) Totally agree, from the drone perspective POV, it looked unsafe, (those where my first thoughts when I watched the first RTH descend). I just bought this drone, because of the none GEO fencing nonsense, and been testing it this past week in the cool Nov Ontario air. There are pros and cons to it, not a bad little drone, and it did ok in the harsher winter wind and temp, but all the RTH functions I have played with, it never said unsafe to land and worked flawlessly, as the closest tree/obstacle was 10m away.
Hey Marcus i have a question should i get the nano as a backup whit no geofencing i have all dji drones and i was thinking about buying it i found the bundle on amazon for 665
Kind of curious about when obstacle avoidance is on, would RTH attempt to go around the cell tower or a tree (assuming the RTH/AutoReturn altitude is set too low)? My big dilemma is my tree lined driveway, where the trees would clobber you if it climbed even to just 25 meters. I think hover or land are my only safe options. OBTW, like your videos!
I don't think it is an error in the manual, but in a certain firmware update they have changed it so the drone will come back from whichever distance it comes. It also happens in DJI drones sometimes.
Okay I'm only 9 minutes through at this point, but I'll watch the rest of it and then come back. Note that the return to home function only sends the drone up to that height IF you're more than 30m away from the launch point. If you're closer than that distance, it will just come home and it will not rise up to that height before going home. If you're already above that height, it will stay at that higher height to come home. When you came back to land in the shadows of the tree, that might have been causing the hesitation on landing. It could be your sensor, but it can also be that the moving pattern of the shadow from the trees over your landing pad was causing confusion. Now back to watching the rest of the video.
Neither the 10 meter RTH as stated in the manual, or the 30 meter statement in the app are correct. I prove that in this video. As for landing, I'm pretty sure my drone is defective. Thank you!!
@@IdahoQuadcopter I got interrupted on watching it before I could finish. But I have saved it to watch later. Currently driving so it's not a recommended hobby to watch RUclips videos while driving. 😎
My Nano+ would NOT fly into the sun. It stopped over the water, refused to follow my inputs, depleted the battery and then dropped into the water. The flight logs also will NOT upload through their app. I’m trying to process a replacement now. Doesn’t look good.
All DJI drones will return to the controller Mark. Just select the controller in the change homepoint map. 👍 I made a video about it. 🙂 ruclips.net/video/5HWTq05qmgg/видео.html
Greetings to the author of the channel and all fans of flights! Friends who have a quadcopter that is lying at home without use, I will accept it as a gift. You can use any brand, for example, DJI mini se, Hubsan zino and zino mini, fimi mini, funsnap diva and others with good stabilization and normal video shooting. Thanks.

That Air 2S is amazing Derek! You will enjoy it for sure.
Hi Marcus.......Boy, what a shake down of the return to home. Enjoyed all your efforts....
Many thanks Jim! Enjoy your trip to the canyon!
Very comprehensive test Marcus. Really enjoyed your video.
Thank you Phil! These drones often have features that some are not aware of.

Thank you Ron! It was kind of fun experimenting with the RTH distances.
Very well explained. Thankyou!!
Thank you! I'm glad that it helped!
Nice tutorial Marcus. Very well explained
Thank you Matt! It's an interesting drone.
Mike in Aus.-Great review Marcus-send me some of that hot weather-its cold down here-regards Mike
I'll bet it never gets too darn cold in Australia does it Mike? 🙂
@@IdahoQuadcopter Yes it does but very little snow.

Great point Alan. When the iPhone screen dims it is so frustrating!
Great video demo of the Auto Return function on the Nano+. By the way, they’re planning on releasing a firmware upgrade sometime this week. 😉
Hey that's great. Firmware improvements are always welcome. Thank you!
It’s strange we use the imperial system in the part of the USA that I live in
In the part of the USA that I live in we are free to choose to use metric if we wish. Additionally, the manual quotes distances in metric.

I agree, Autel has a way to go in the CS department. At times the drone will land quite hard.

That is possible Ed. I'm not sure. Thank you for stopping by.

Hello Marcus is this the drone that went swimming in FL. or is this a new one that you purchased? Thx. for another beautiful video in Utah.
Sadly the drone that went swimming was never found. This is the original one that I purchased.
Great video Marcus 👍
Thank you Jimi! 👍

That's not a bad thought. The Nano+ has a really great camera.
Great i think i will hit the buy button

Hey Marcus another great video. Hope your doing well
Hey, thank you Michael! I'm doing great!
Still not a winner. I would expect Autel to drop the price of this product if they wish to keep selling it.
Yes, it needs some refinement for sure.

Hi from U.K. whatever happened with that drone that dived into the sea, give us an update please.
Hello Nigel. I've been working with Autel customer service, but they've taken no action yet.

I'm sorry to hear it. I hope Autel makes it right.
When your iPhone dims, switch off auto dim and set it manually to max.
Yes indeed, that was the first thing I did. These iPhones just overheat and dim. Thank you for the tip though. 👍
I take it that that is your original nano and that you had it fixed
Yes, this is the original red one. 👍
Drone has potential but definitely needs some software improvement
I agree. I hear we may get an update soon.

@Lon Denard yes Lon I know that but you have to keep on updating it every so often as you are moving it would be much nicer if it moved with you

Thanks Marcus I am not impressed with Autel I will stay with DJI much more consistent from my view.
Yeah, I agree, Autel is good, but it's tough to beat DJI.
